Oh heck yea... that is what I am talking about heh.

I went ahead and grabbed a H81, figured start with what is proven and only what I needed.

I ordered a SSD drive (60gb), an ASRock H81, the two items you listed above.. heh (I work fast), 4GB of Corsair (still debating the extra 4GB if I use winblows but for now, I am leaning towards something other than that.

I am always worried about Linux.. learning curve as well as the security possible issues of me not knowing how to lock it down as well.

So, while I ordered these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075FR7Q5Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You are saying I do not need those since the 10-pack of connectors will allow me to connect to them directly?

That saves like 55 bucks heh. I can return those.

So, thinking of spending a tad extra and going with the G4400 Intel, vs a Celeron. I have read it is a little better performance.

I can build the case and then add a nice fan blowing over it. The office upstairs is freezing lol.. so, that will help.

Man, tons of learning today and great help, thanks bud :)

Well looks like EVGA has a pretty good sale and mail in rebate going at microcenter, so I'll go that route. I can get a EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G1+ 1000 Watt 80 Plus Gold and EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G1+ 750 Watt 80 Plus Gold for a total of $260 after the rebate, so I will do that. I don't plan on running more then like 8 cards (and that wouldn't be for a while)

I will end up just getting this so expansion is easy: https://www.amazon.com/Professional-Stackable-Excellent-convection-performance/dp/B073Q2CN14/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

I second this. I swapped everything over to 240 last night and everything seems much more stable. Definitely affordable, especially if you already have an unused 20/30A 240V in a garage or something and definitely worth doing. Tripplite 30A PDU ~$160 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007YG85A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), C14 to PSU cables ($5 each or less if used) (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000067RRX/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1), and presto. You're good to go. It was literally plug and play with all of my PSUs (EVGA, Corsair, Rosewill, etc.). Everything is on one 30A 240V outlet instead of spread across multiple 110 outlets.

Have you read the wiki? Plenty of options listed: https://www.reddit.com/r/EtherMining/wiki/hardware/mobo

I personally run the ASUS Prime Z270-P in all of my miners. It supports 6 GPUs natively, 8 with m.2 to PCI-e adapters, and 9 total with PCI-e port replicators.

Here is the table from the wiki.

Lastly, please ask these kinds of questions in the mega thread stickied on the front page. It helps to keep the sub uncluttered. Thanks!

As long as it is doable without big negatives, I'm fine with doing some modding before I dig into maximization of performance.

As for the PSU supplier, I was actually swayed by their price and their reviews on Amazon for this item from Verified Purchasers (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NWE9RNW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER)

What did you find about them? Information was scarce when I checked but I would like to make an informed purchase. Thank you!

Do they look like this

Also if you for some reason can’t get the slot to work you can always get an m2 to pcie adapter. I found these to work very well for me

I would definitely recommend you at least use two molex to six pin adapters like these.

u/thelowhangingfruit · 1 pointr/EtherMining

Awesome! Just to be sure is this one good to order? (sorry for the noobness)

First, some numbers for you.

A stock R9 290X will do around 29-30MH/s (Claymore) and use ~250W of power at the GPU side, which translates to 312W from the wall at 80% efficiency. Add ~80W at the wall for the CPU/mobo and you're at ~400W for single-coin mining. That's pretty good even for a 600W PSU (but not good if your electricity is expensive). I've run this card with a 180W card on a 750W PSU with no issues.

I've been able to undervolt an R9 so it hovers around 190W at the PSU at 29MH/s but I haven't had the time to push it further. MSI Afterburner has been weird in applying settings. So that setting draws 350W at the wall for single mining, 450W for dual. OUCH.

Now, in your case - you only have 2 VGA power cables so, like you mentioned, you need to use a 6-pin adapter. You say SATA, but be aware that 1x SATA is specced to provide up to 50W. **DO NOT USE SOMETHING LIKE THIS*: https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-108494-8-Inch-15-Pin-Express/dp/B009GUP6O0 - first review mentions that they melt! Of course they do, they are pulling all the power from a single SATA pin (even though it goes across two cables, it's the pin that's going to overheat). 6-pin is specced to provide up to 75W, 8-pin up to 150W.

These are much better because 2xSATA (50+50W) exceeds the spec of 6pin (75W) - but I would not do 2xSATA to 8pin:
https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-SATPCIEXADAP-6-Inch-Express-Adapter/dp/B007Y91B80
https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-2-Pack-Molex-Power/dp/B01DV1Z22K
https://www.amazon.com/Tenext-Power-Express-Connector-Adapter/dp/B00DP98P0A

Now, the million-dollar question - which rail are your SATA connectors on? You want to be able to provide 150W over the SATA adapters.

TLDR: A
good** 750W PSU is fine for running that combo, but yours might be problematic. You can try, but get dual SATA adapters and definitely watch them for overheating.

Right. Thanks a lot. Do you recommend any cases? The case I'm getting right now is literally the same price as a gpu..

u/tle712 · 2 pointsr/EtherMining

This is the rack that im using. They are under different name @diff price from various retailer for $20-$29
I’ll edit this later to include the link to risers later
That is a good PSU. It can run up to 6gpu solo mining after indervolt
Tips: never let the seller know u are using it for mining. It’ll void warranty
Edit: im using these risers and find that they’re well made. Prefered them to the ver the 103C with led and ver 008. Bigger cap

I have 3 different types, one of which seems to be about the same as the first one you linked.
The second type is similar, but in red, and the third is the exact ones your second link points to.
I'm not sure why our experiences would differ like this, though there is probably a good bit of variation between superficially similar risers.
I'll do some more fiddling with my rig that uses the first type of riser. I don't think it'll change much, because I've always tried to use the VGA power cords when possible, exactly because I have been concerned about overloading SATA connectors.

That is the motherboard I am thinking about or I may use the following board as i may use more than 8 cards. So do you know a processor that may be better for this or if the one i mentioned above is enough?

u/shafa1070 · 1 pointr/EtherMining

Correct I am using (2) 1x risers in 1x slots and (2) 1x risers in 16x slots. Could there be an issue with only have (1) 3.0 PCIe slot and (3) 2.0 PCIe slots?

My motherboard is as follows: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LA6PPBW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

again, thank you for your response

CABLE MATTERS 2 pack

STARTECH single cable

If you have an EVGA psu, make an account and register it; once it’s verified call customer service and order (6+2)+6 GPU cables. There is a limit I believe.

u/Mr_Yukon_C · 2 pointsr/EtherMining

These are all running:

u/mralexweber · 2 pointsr/EtherMining

yes, but you'll need to do something so they both turn on, such as one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-24-Pin-Mining-Adapter-AC-005-CNONAN-P1/dp/B00O0M6Q0C

Or just do the paperclip method. It's not 100% safe though…

u/rbatra91 · 1 pointr/EtherMining

So should I buy one of these?

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0007RXDDM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&psc=1

And hook up a molex cable to my psu and then plug the molex ends in to my psu and then the 6pin in to the riser?

u/itwentok · 1 pointr/EtherMining

Four of them came with my PSU: [Corsair HX1200i] (http://www.corsair.com/en-us/hxi-series-hx1200i-high-performance-atx-power-supply-1200-watt-80-plus-platinum-certified-psu).

I also bought this 2-pack to bring my total up to 6: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N5EM9MH

The two 6+2 ends on the ones that came with my PSU are not long enough to attach to both the card and the riser, so I got several of these 6-pin PCIe extensions: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DV1Z4EQ

u/bastaertsner · 1 pointr/EtherMining

I got the panto

None so far. I have 17 gpus on them right now. I am using mostly this brand: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074PS39BK/ref=psdc_3015403011_t1_B01N3UVJHM

u/vulkare · 1 pointr/EtherMining

UPS is just not worth it for mining, because its going to be VERY expensive to handle all those watts, and will only give you 10+ minutes of extra mining if the power goes out. Best just to put it on a inexpensive surge protector and have the means to restart it when needed. I recommend this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-Protector-Suppressor-ULTRABLOK/dp/B00006B81D/ref=sr_1_23?ie=UTF8&qid=1496437033&sr=8-23&keywords=heavy+duty+surge+protector
It's low cost, and heavy duty. And it plugs straight into the outlet so you have no extra power cord to worry weather or not it can handle the watts ( some cheap surge protector strips might have inadequate gauge of wire for the high wattage )

u/tzar417 · 1 pointr/EtherMining

I had to finally say screw it and have this board running 5 cards instead of a 6 card rig. Now my EVGA 1200 Plat seems a little overkill.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N2V0AHI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/PoliticalDissidents · 1 pointr/EtherMining

No point buying a 1300w PSU. Just buy two 750 watt PSU's it'll cost you less than a 1300 watt and it'll give you 1500 watts of power. Then use one of these which is only $7 so that you can use 2 PSUs with one motherboard.

u/tallmansteez · 1 pointr/EtherMining

this guy the 2x vegas take 4 of my pci slots unfortunate. I can link up my old 650 watt psu if need be. Rather be safe then on fire

u/AriasFco · 1 pointr/EtherMining

There is another one with capacity for two PSUs but sadly at the same price range: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073Q2CN14/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_XIMLzbN9CYST5

u/damelon_Zero · 3 pointsr/EtherMining

You cam use the same powered risers for all of your slots, regardless of what size the slot is. You only need the 1x - 16x risers. A lot of people recommend ordering an extra riser or two just in case one is bad, though I have yet to receive a bad one myself, others have.

Panto makes good 006C ones if you want the 6 pin risers. No issues with them.

https://www.amazon.com/Panto-6-Pin-Powered-PCI-E-Express/dp/B01MR22J4G/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&qid=1497206239&sr=8-20&keywords=powered+riser

If you want the standard 006 risers, I've purchased some from MintCell on amazon (Usually the ones linked from a lot of guides) and also had no issues... those have the 4 pin molex. (Avoid using the SATA adapters if you can)

https://www.amazon.com/6-Pack-PCI-E-Powered-Adapter-Extension/dp/B01GU94QSQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1497206770&sr=8-2&keywords=powered+risers

u/InfectedWithTheCure · 3 pointsr/EtherMining

I have fully automated reboots using TP-Link HS100 (https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Required-Control-Anywhere-HS100/dp/B01KBFWW0O/).
I use ncat to send binary payloads to turn them on and off via a batch file like this:

echo cycling power for tplink1
..\ncat -v 192.168.1.37 9999 < turnoff.bin
timeout 10
..\ncat -v 192.168.1.37 9999 < turnon.bin

I then set a rule in awesomeminer to detect when the machine is offline for more than 5 mins and execute the batch file. I've also created batch files kill miners when they crash and doesn't require a reboot.
