Over a decade ago when I was a teenager, I went to a flea market (AKA swap meet) with my folks and while we were walking around looking at things, I spied a copy of the Interplay 15th Anniversary Anthology in what looked to be new/like new condition. It had Redneck Rampage on it and I'd enjoyed playing that game when I'd borrowed it off someone a few years earlier, so I decided I had to have it. Spent what little money I had and I remember flicking through the tome that was the manual for all the games on the ride home (I would religiously read the manuals for any game I got before playing). While looking through, I saw there was a bunch of artwork of some cartoony looking dude with a gun in one section, so I ended up reading the manual for that game, Fallout 1. It sounded intriguing and awesome, so I installed it and dived right in.

I'd never played an RPG before, so I made a few mistakes creating my character and struggled at first, but I was so hooked on what I was seeing, I persisted and persevered. Nothing I'd played before was so dark and gritty with how it presented it's world and your place in it. Eventually, I finished it and while browsing the web via a dialup connection, I discovered there was a second game. I immediately looked up a copy of it on Ebay, gave my parents the money for it and got them to order it for me. When it arrived, I dived into that and was similarly hooked.

I played both a fair few times, especially Fallout 2, over the years while waiting for a third game. I was absolutely devastated to hear that Van Buren had been cancelled. Eventually, Bethesda bought the game and FO3 was announced, so I pre-ordered that shit. While it absolutely had flaws, I actually enjoyed FO3 when I got my hands on it and thought Bethesda had made a reasonable attempt to make a game in the spirit of it's predecessors, but in a new style. Of course, New Vegas came out and improved upon what FO3 had done and I loved it.

I've always found post apocalyptic media interesting and have much love for it, as I enjoy the dark, gritty, desperate nature of it. Post nuclear war, zombies, whatever, it's all good to me, I even love the localised post-apoc like style of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. If you hand me something and tell me it's post-apoc, I'm probably going to enjoy it.

Every now and then I power up a 2013 laptop with a 4th generation dual core Intel Core i5-4200u and Intel HD 4400 to play Fallout 3 at 1080p and medium graphic settings. It is pretty playable with an average of a little more than 30 FPS. That is without using any performance enhancing mods or graphic mods.

A budget laptop with an 8th gen Core i3-8130u and Intel UHD 620 graphics core will not have any problems running the game at 1080p using high settings and getting 50+ FPS on average. Beware that FO3 do not officially recognize Intel HD graphic cores so you need to install the Intel HD Graphics Fix from Nexusmods; basically you need to place the custom d3d9.DLL file in the Fallout 3 GOTY folder to get the game up and running. FNV has no problems with Intel graphic cores.

The following Acer Aspire E15 laptop is the least expensive laptop with a Core i3-8130u, Intel UHD 620 graphics core, 6GB of RAM, 1TB hard drive and a 1080p screen for $329.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i3-8130U-Memory-E5-576-392H/dp/B079TGL2BZ/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=i3-8130u+laptop&qid=1566919832&s=electronics&sr=1-3

Alternatively, you can buy the following Asus VivoBook 15 F512FA-AB34 for $349 which a more sleeker and lighter laptop. It has the slightly more powerful i3-8145u, the same Intel UHD 620, 8GB of RAM, 1080p screen and 128GB SSD. The 128GB SSD is really small but a lot faster than a hard drive so the laptop should be able to boot into Windows in roughly 20 to 25 seconds as opposed to perhaps 75 to 90 seconds with a hard drive. Programs will generally launch faster making the laptop feel more responsive. There is a 2.5" empty drive bay so at least you can install a 2.5" hard drive or 2.5" SSD for more storage space.

If you can bump up your budget to $478, then the following 14" Asus VivoBook F412DA is overall a better laptop for "light" games. It seems to be the least expensive laptop with a 1080p that has a quad core Ryzen 5 3500u APU with a Radeon RX Vega 8 graphics core. It also has 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. There should be a 2.5" bay to install a 2.5" hard drive or 2.5" SSD for more storage. The Vega 8 graphics core is roughly similar to a nVidia 940m dedicated GPU. As a comparion the Intel UHD 620 is less powerful than the nVidia 920m, but better than the 910m. The Vega 8 is nowhere near as powerful as a GTX 1050 from 2016, but for an integrated GPU to be roughly as powerful as the nVidia 940m is impressive.

That's awesome! Rehab is bullshit. At least for most heroin addicts. I think it might be beneficial for other addicts, but I'm not sure. I guess I shouldn't speak in generalities. In my experience rehab is bullshit. I went to a $30,000 month long rehab and it didn't do anything for me. All they did was try to get me to be into AA/NA. According to studies AA/NA has a 5-10% success rate. That is the same rate for going cold turkey with no treatment. AA is free and the rehabs are making so much money just for telling us we need to go to meetings. 85% of rehabs are abstinence only/12 step based.

There is a really good book called The Sober Truth: Debunking the Bad Science Behind 12 Step Programs and the Rehab Industry. Honestly I haven't gotten around to reading it all but it is a really good book. Also, I just want to say that I know 12 step programs have helped some people and that's great. The problem is that it doesn't work for most people. And those people are not given any other options because the majority of treatment centers just focus on the 12 steps.

Anyways, I'm really glad subs are working for you. Why are you paying cash for the visits and the scripts? No insurance? Are you on the films?

First off, you are good peoples.

Secondly, the best place to check would be Etsy - there are handmade Fallout items on there for just about everything, from clothing to household items. You could ask him in general about the game(s) and see if he mentions any particular favourite characters/factions and get merchandise associated with them.

Or you could go the official route and consider:

I am late to the game here but.

There was a 2nd edition version of this book as well. Building settlements has been part of D&D for ages. Surviving after the fall of civilization will require some sort of shelter.

The actual mechanics of this can be debated, but having an option where you can put down roots and do more than just survive is a nice and good thing.

This one is a favorite of mine as well. This Is Not My Hat by the same author is also a great book.

CDs like compilation LPs are a bit difficult in this situation because many of the Fallout songs were recorded as singles before the invention of the vinyl record album in 1948.

The Atomic Cafe soundtrack has a decent compilation of Fallout songs; it’s easy to find as a record though the CD version remains to be seen. Highly recommend the DVD of the documentary.

This 2004 CD, It’s De Lovely The Authentic Cole Porter Collection, is the original album that “Anything Goes” comes from. The original 1934 recording just has piano and Porter’s voice, but the CD overdubs it with extra instruments by Vince Giordano. Its overdubbed version of “You’re the Top” is also used in Bioshock.

New Vegas uses some newer songs from 90s CDs which can be hard to find. “Where Have You Been All My Life” and “I’m Movin’ Out” were originally released on these 1998 and 2003 CDs. These fall under the category of library music or stock music and similar stuff is also found on the CDs.

Otherwise with the aforementioned problem of singles vs. albums you may have to choose between general 40s compilation albums or individual artist compilation CDs.

Lastly, there was one official soundtrack CD for preorders for Fallout 3 with 3 radio songs that can be found floating around.

If this were about the original records, that’s a whole other can of worms.

Thank you! You're right and it's just the Ella/Ink Spots song and "Pistol Packing Momma" that cross over; I guess it just feels like there are more when I'm driving around LA. Still, I could've sworn I heard "Crazy He Calls Me."

> Technically, since the game takes place in 1947, and the vinyl LP was not invented until 1948, all the game's soundtrack should exist on 78s.

Out of curiosity, were 78s the most common medium for radio broadcast of music and other recorded content in the late 40s? I'm coincidentally reading L.A. Noir right now and the author described Jack Webb as a "disc jockey," which made me realize that I don't know how recorded audio was played on the radio.

I laugh at your maze of footnotes. Infinite Jest or go home.

Sometimes I think it was always meant to be 1,200 pages of "ha-ha" on the reader. Which explains the title, somewhat.

> convert the combat system to D&D 3.5

Honesty, if you plan on running it with D&D 3.5, I would recommend using D20 Modern and using d20 Apocalypse with it.

You're actually in the minority. Most people can't bring themselves to knowingly kill another human being.

This is why history has "execution by firing squad" instead of "execution by single gunman." It's not to be certain of execution (death is certain with a single bullet at close range) - it's because they found time and again that a single person doesn't want to shoot another person. It's only when in a group and feeling the diffusion of responsibility that people can bring themselves to shoot the prisoner - because there's comfort in not knowing if it was really their bullet that dealt the final blow.

Most people don't want to hurt another person, and would have huge moral qualms even when faced with the situation you describe. You're in the minority, but one that's celebrated.

LOL me too! Mojave has tons of wasteland. Pic almost looks like death valley, or inyo county. Oh saw last comment. Death valley!! I go there two times a year at least. The abandoned mines and buildings out there are freaking amazing. This is how I find all my wastelands. Also has Lake Isabella (Kern) area. http://www.amazon.com/Southern-Californias-Best-Ghost-Towns/dp/0806126086
