Well, you're right about how many people screw up and spend more for very little benefit, but I'm more focused on what is the best advice you can give someone that doesn't have either yet and wants to play modern games.

As far as fairness in comparing them, I was dismantling a post that only discussed price while cheating on the prices.

However, if you want to add having a Windows computer for non-game tasks to the requirement of playing a modem AAA game like fallout 4, we can have that discuss that comparison and I find that both options come out basically even today.

If you put care into selecting your deals, you can get an 3-4 year old business PC that has come off lease for under $150. Desktop or laptop examples

Combine with an Xbox one for $310-320

Resell the gears of war download code card on eBay or CL for $10-20 and you've spent $430 and have a brand new console with a warranty and a PC that will do pretty much anything the $500 PC build will do other than modem games. Reselling the gears card is not much different than doing rebates on PC components.

Yes, you will have to pay $40 for XBL each year but you'll have the latest generation console for the next ~6 years which is guaranteed to run the latest AAA games. That's $240 for online play over 6 years. On the $500 PC alternative you will need a new video card every 2-3 years depending on how cheap you go with them if you want to play new games at good settings. If you spend $170 on a graphics or graphics and RAM upgrade at 3 years, it's effectively the same cost.

I'd recommend the console and cheap PC alternative to many families because their kid can play halo and play online with more of their friends. This is something plenty of kids and adults will care about. Popular PC games are on sale more often but if you wait for demand to die off you can save money on Xbox games too. Number of games and types of games that someone will buy can make a big difference in how much one would save on the PC side over the life of the system.

Every now and then I power up a 2013 laptop with a 4th generation dual core Intel Core i5-4200u and Intel HD 4400 to play Fallout 3 at 1080p and medium graphic settings. It is pretty playable with an average of a little more than 30 FPS. That is without using any performance enhancing mods or graphic mods.

A budget laptop with an 8th gen Core i3-8130u and Intel UHD 620 graphics core will not have any problems running the game at 1080p using high settings and getting 50+ FPS on average. Beware that FO3 do not officially recognize Intel HD graphic cores so you need to install the Intel HD Graphics Fix from Nexusmods; basically you need to place the custom d3d9.DLL file in the Fallout 3 GOTY folder to get the game up and running. FNV has no problems with Intel graphic cores.

The following Acer Aspire E15 laptop is the least expensive laptop with a Core i3-8130u, Intel UHD 620 graphics core, 6GB of RAM, 1TB hard drive and a 1080p screen for $329.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i3-8130U-Memory-E5-576-392H/dp/B079TGL2BZ/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=i3-8130u+laptop&qid=1566919832&s=electronics&sr=1-3

Alternatively, you can buy the following Asus VivoBook 15 F512FA-AB34 for $349 which a more sleeker and lighter laptop. It has the slightly more powerful i3-8145u, the same Intel UHD 620, 8GB of RAM, 1080p screen and 128GB SSD. The 128GB SSD is really small but a lot faster than a hard drive so the laptop should be able to boot into Windows in roughly 20 to 25 seconds as opposed to perhaps 75 to 90 seconds with a hard drive. Programs will generally launch faster making the laptop feel more responsive. There is a 2.5" empty drive bay so at least you can install a 2.5" hard drive or 2.5" SSD for more storage space.

If you can bump up your budget to $478, then the following 14" Asus VivoBook F412DA is overall a better laptop for "light" games. It seems to be the least expensive laptop with a 1080p that has a quad core Ryzen 5 3500u APU with a Radeon RX Vega 8 graphics core. It also has 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. There should be a 2.5" bay to install a 2.5" hard drive or 2.5" SSD for more storage. The Vega 8 graphics core is roughly similar to a nVidia 940m dedicated GPU. As a comparion the Intel UHD 620 is less powerful than the nVidia 920m, but better than the 910m. The Vega 8 is nowhere near as powerful as a GTX 1050 from 2016, but for an integrated GPU to be roughly as powerful as the nVidia 940m is impressive.

That's awesome! Rehab is bullshit. At least for most heroin addicts. I think it might be beneficial for other addicts, but I'm not sure. I guess I shouldn't speak in generalities. In my experience rehab is bullshit. I went to a $30,000 month long rehab and it didn't do anything for me. All they did was try to get me to be into AA/NA. According to studies AA/NA has a 5-10% success rate. That is the same rate for going cold turkey with no treatment. AA is free and the rehabs are making so much money just for telling us we need to go to meetings. 85% of rehabs are abstinence only/12 step based.

There is a really good book called The Sober Truth: Debunking the Bad Science Behind 12 Step Programs and the Rehab Industry. Honestly I haven't gotten around to reading it all but it is a really good book. Also, I just want to say that I know 12 step programs have helped some people and that's great. The problem is that it doesn't work for most people. And those people are not given any other options because the majority of treatment centers just focus on the 12 steps.

Anyways, I'm really glad subs are working for you. Why are you paying cash for the visits and the scripts? No insurance? Are you on the films?

I am late to the game here but.

https://www.amazon.com/Stronghold-Builders-Guidebook-Dungeons-Roleplaying/dp/0786926554

There was a 2nd edition version of this book as well. Building settlements has been part of D&D for ages. Surviving after the fall of civilization will require some sort of shelter.

The actual mechanics of this can be debated, but having an option where you can put down roots and do more than just survive is a nice and good thing.

EDIT: I bought one at Dragon*Con this year, and it's a really nice backpack in general. The pouches are great, the texture's nice, and the color is just right so that it doesn't clash with anything you might be wearing.

I've gone to my Army Navy Surplus store nearby, and the closest thing I could find is similar to this.
I was considering something like this or this, but if I can find something more accurate it would be better.

Thank you! You're right and it's just the Ella/Ink Spots song and "Pistol Packing Momma" that cross over; I guess it just feels like there are more when I'm driving around LA. Still, I could've sworn I heard "Crazy He Calls Me."

> Technically, since the game takes place in 1947, and the vinyl LP was not invented until 1948, all the game's soundtrack should exist on 78s.

Out of curiosity, were 78s the most common medium for radio broadcast of music and other recorded content in the late 40s? I'm coincidentally reading L.A. Noir right now and the author described Jack Webb as a "disc jockey," which made me realize that I don't know how recorded audio was played on the radio.

I laugh at your maze of footnotes. Infinite Jest or go home.

Sometimes I think it was always meant to be 1,200 pages of "ha-ha" on the reader. Which explains the title, somewhat.

> convert the combat system to D&D 3.5

Honesty, if you plan on running it with D&D 3.5, I would recommend using D20 Modern and using d20 Apocalypse with it.

Sounds like it's time for a new mouse: https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Naga-Chroma-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B01798WKTY

Should be able to key bind everything you'd need on the mouse.

u/Cell91 · 3 pointsr/Fallout

man that's tough, and i'm probably not too far from what happened to you, considering i can almost feel the blood clots traveling in my veins. Anyways, use one of those multibutton mmo mice (like the Razer Naga or the Logitech G600) with like 9 extra thumb buttons and map these extra buttons to WASD Jump Crouch Interact VATS PIP...etc

u/wangatangs · 2 pointsr/Fallout

You can buy like the GoTY edition on Amazon.

Why no Steam version?

u/Nisha_the_lawbringer · 6 pointsr/Fallout

Its rare enough that you would have to drop some serious money on it.

amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0048O94YM?pc_redir=1405438712&robot_redir=1 here you go, It's a bit pricey though for a coin.

u/Salad_Tosserr · 1 pointr/Fallout

it seems those prices are only relevant for those two days of the year. And I've managed to find an xbox one $320 USD. so you were almost right.

I'm not sure what you can buy them in the UK, but Amazon.com came up with a "UTG Law Enforcement SWAT Vest" for about $40/£25. Camping/hiking/outdoors shops might have what I can only imagine might be called a "utility vest" which would look the part.

Also, my only other bit of advice for this otherwise wonderful costume would be to dirty up that shirt a little. We're talking a man living in the wilderness.

LOL me too! Mojave has tons of wasteland. Pic almost looks like death valley, or inyo county. Oh saw last comment. Death valley!! I go there two times a year at least. The abandoned mines and buildings out there are freaking amazing. This is how I find all my wastelands. Also has Lake Isabella (Kern) area. http://www.amazon.com/Southern-Californias-Best-Ghost-Towns/dp/0806126086
