You want this one, because it won't scratch glass:
https://www.amazon.com/Bon-Ami-04030-Cleaning-12-Ounce/dp/B000BQYBC6?th=1

Put your wipers in the service position and cover plastic shroud at the base of the windshield.

Clean your glass thoroughly with microfiber and a glass cleaner like sprayway. It's cheap and it sticks to the powder, creating a good slurry you can work into the surface of the glass.

Once the dirt and grit is off, divide your glass into 6 sections.

Spray a square of glass cleaner, and then shake a good bit of powder into the suds.

Fold up a microfiber towel into quarters, then hold it so you can make a tennis ball sized flat area in your grip.

Work the slurry into the glass with small circles, being as thorough as possible. You don't want it pasty, so add a little water with a spray bottle so that it's somewhere between runny and toothpasty.

Repeat for each 1/6th section, making sure to get every inch of the glass. Use a new section of towel for each routine.

Once you're done, you may as well wash your car to get all the slurry and white residue off. It's only tallow soap and feldspar, so not too bad.

Don't use rain-x or anything afterwards, and clean the glass with a good quality cleaner like Stoner's or Sonax.

There is a great solution for mats that I put in my MK7 R. Fit is perfect and they look great.

Buy these mats:

The logo that comes on the fronts is ugly, but there is a good solution. You can get some pliers and just pop off the rivets on the back, then stick a set of R logos on instead:

haha I always love parking next to another GTI. Even better when I return to my car to find another one parked next to it :]

I also recommend some Nevr Dull to help keep your exhaust tips shiny https://www.amazon.com/Eagle-One-1035605-Nevr-Dull-Wadding/dp/B000CNBI1A :P

Sure. You're going to be running a power wire from the radar, across the top of your windshield, under the top part of your A-pillar, into the rubber trim, down to the side access, and into the fuse box. You're going to put an add-a-circuit in to put two fuses in one slot and share a fuse that turns on when the car is in accessory mode so the radar is only on when the car is on. These are the steps I took:

Step 1:
Mount the radar where you want it to be. I have mine above my mirror so it doesn't obstruct my windshield view at all and isn't visible from outside the car.

Step 2:
Plug the power wire into the radar.

Step 3:
Feel the top of the windshield where the headliner meets it. There's a roughly 1/4" gap there. Tuck the power wire into this gap, working your way towards the driver's side door. The red line is the path your wire will be taking.

Step 4:
When you get to the edge of the windshield, use one of the trim tools to gently pry the A-pillar cover just enough to allow you to tuck the wire into it. Get the wire flat and then push the cover back into place.

Step 5:
Tuck the wire in between the rubber trim on the door, working towards the dash.

Step 6:
Use the trim tool to pry off the side cover. It has 3 clips and should come out fairly easily.

Step 7:
Remove dash drawer by opening it and then squeezing the sides towards the back.

Step 8:
Pull out a fuse, put it in your add-a-circuit, then put the add-a-circuit plug where you pulled the fuse from. The red arrow points to the fuse I chose.

Step 9:
Turn on the car and verify that the radar powers up and down with the car.

Step 10:
Velcro strap the excess power wire and tuck it out of the way.

Step 11:
Replace the drawer and side panel

Do it yourself it's very easy. And will only cost you a few bucks in tools. The dealer used the method "bottom fill" with vag com and using the plastic fill plug to gauge the temperature and amount put in. Obviously vag com and the dealer tool are expensive. So I offer the "top fill" approach. You buy this funnel
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000EH4V0Y/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then buy this service kit.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006CN9FNM/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Leave car overnight so new dsg oil is same temp as old oil in the dsg.

Drain it. Then measure how much came out. Will help drain speed if you remove filter and second drain plug.

Put in drain plugs. Then use funnel to hookup to filter hole and put the same amount of what came out back in.

Put new filter on. As well as battery and air intake as those should be removed as well. Battery doesn't have to come out but makes it much easier.

Turn car on. And with brake on go through all the gears about 5 times. Just moving the lever down then back up 3 times. You will have all kinds of lights on ur dash this is normal. Just drive about 20 ft they'll go away. Relearn pinch protection on Windows.

Explained here.

Note they doing bottom fill method.

Here is a video on top fill but he does use vag com and drain plug method which shouldn't be done without vag com.
https://youtu.be/nhE19GCXlvA

Edit: Wanted to mention it might take up to 4 hours your first time but after that it takes about a couple hours and most of it is just waiting for the oil to go down the funnel.

Edit 2: my stealer quoted me $508. An honest indie should be able to do it for around $350.

I love that weathertech advertises and supports things I like. But if you’re like me and want the best...

DIY should be pretty easy, there are videos online. The kit is available on Rockauto.com for cheap ($86 shipped for me), too. https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=7668792&cc=1505266&jsn=390

You'll also want a Hopkins 10704 FloTool if you are doing the top fill method.

I'm getting ready to do my MK7 at 35k miles.

My dude, here are the wiper blades, all Bosch:

Rear: Bosch Rear Wiper Blade A282H/3397008634 Original Equipment Replacement- 11" (Pack of 1) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0042ETBEQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_M2uTCb9DREPSJ

Fronts: [EDIT: The previous ones I had listed were for a Fiat 500 which is my girlfriend's car. Will update the correct part numbers here soon.]

AUDI VW BOSCH AeroTwin Front Wiper Blades PAIR 650/450mm 26 18 A863S 2008- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FZWPO5Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_JM3UCb74T5N9G those are the actual OEM replacements, the Aero Twins.

The Bosch Icons are the 26OE and 18OE sizes, according to Autozone and the BOSCH site, although Amazon says they don't fit lol. https://imgur.com/a/4eyf0SU

They all fit perfectly on the MK7 GTI. You can order the actual OEM wiper blades but they're not common in the USA (the OEM wipers are Bosch but some sort of European variant of the Icons). The Icons though are perfect IMHO.

To go with the other reply from the Ross-Tech (worker?/user?/employee?) you can use it for that but there's a delay in the reading from a half second to a full second. It's not really all that noticeable unless you're kind of looking for the delay, but I think you'd be much happier with a boost pod.

Edit: also, if you're jailbroken you can use the bluetooth version of the transmitter but if you aren't jailbroken then you have to use the wifi version. Now I've not used the wifi, so I can't speak for how it performs, but I'd imagine that it would actually be better than bluetooth because of the latency (delay) associated with bluetooth as opposed to wifi.

I got mine off Amazon for $84, says it won't fit a 2018 but it does perfectly. It's the same product number as the vw accessories site.

Been wanting to do something similar using EZ Lip. Looks pretty good for the price!

magnetic mount works great if you use a case on your phone

u/Disloud · 2 pointsr/GolfGTI

I ran the control wire (just 4-wire phone cord with RJ11 connectors) back to the trunk of the vehicle when I ran my 4-gauge amp wire (this video helped a lot). I used trim removal tools to pull all the panels for that initial run.

For the control knob, I first removed the side panel to the left of the headlight switch that's only visible when the driver's door is open, then opened and dropped the small storage box above the driver's knee area by pinching the sides and pulling down. Once those are open you can route the wire up under the steering column and over to the gas pedal. I then followed the install manual for the Apex garage door button which were great. Just one note - when you get the shift boot off, all you need to do is push up from the underside of the buttons to dislodge them - don't try to remove the whole piece around the shifter, as it appears to be bolted somewhere to the rest of the console, contrary to their instructions. Here are pics of the final installand customization of the button module to accommodate the ACR1 control knob.

Yep. These cars eat oil. Every 500miles I put 1/4qt of oil or every 1000miles 1/2qt. Check out this oil. I’ve heard good things about it and I’ve been using it Liqui Moly 2331 Leichtlauf High Tech 5W-40 1qt they also sell 5qts

u/DuckfaceAssassin · 1 pointr/GolfGTI

I got this one from Amazon for my mkvi and it works great with my Samsung Galaxy Note II:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004G1L52Q/ref=cm_sw_r_an_am_ap_am_us?ie=UTF8

I wanted one that wouldn't stick to the windshield or sit on the dashboard. No complaints so far and I would recommend it to anyone who owns a large smartphone.

u/fubar_86 · 1 pointr/GolfGTI

I just use a simple attachment that slips into the cd tray, twist a knob to open the bit inside the cd tray and then slap my phone into the hold bracket. Can remove it and install it real fast without any damages.

Edit: Here is the exact one I got

u/justinedd · 5 pointsr/GolfGTI

The Neuspeed RSe10 website (linked here) says that late model VW and Audi center caps will not fit, and that they recommend buying a different model from VW. Specifically VW cap part #: 3B7 601 171. I found 3 quick links, one from Amazon(priced per), one from ECS Tuning(priced per), and one from UPS Motorsports(priced for a set of 4).

u/Ftpini · 4 pointsr/GolfGTI

Wheels are nice, but I'd look into getting proper wheel caps. The mismatch is just odd. I can't say for sure exactly what size you need, but I'm sure you could get some that match or are a custom unbranded design.

u/mf-dave · 1 pointr/GolfGTI

I got myself This holds the phone perfectly, lots of shit roads around me and has never slid off. Easy placing and removal.

u/rmg22893 · 1 pointr/GolfGTI

This is what I have for my general diagnostics (reading CEL codes, etc). Pairs to your phone (Android in my case, don't know if the one I linked works with Apple) and you can pull up all sorts of info on your vehicle.

u/PSX_ · 1 pointr/GolfGTI

I use a phone vent mount that just slides over a vent fin, and I mounted stuck the sticky side of the metal backing to the back of the AP, it never budges unless im messing with it.

Same model as this.

u/jbourne0129 · 3 pointsr/GolfGTI

Oh that is sick where did you get that?

EDIT: nevermind you can get these on Amazon.

Mine were just as bad and used this stuff.

Takes about 10 minutes and I was able to get my shinny back
