Cardboard will not work with any regular games, since it requires the display to be split into two separate images, and looking at a regular game in Cardboard is a good way to induce headache.

I don't know of any head mount like the one you are looking for, but it is pretty easy to build one yourself with an existing cardboard box. Just make sure you use one large lens with about 3X magnification and place it about 10cm/4 inches away from the screen.

By using one lens (e.g. a rectangular fresnel reading loupe, preferably the size of your screen) both eyes will easily see the full screen. This doesn't work well with two lenses like in Cardboard, even if you use lenses with much larger focal length/lower magnification, as you will get a lot more distortion when looking through the edges of the lenses, or your vision will be completely blocked. The primary function of the lens here is not to make the image larger like in VR, but to allow your eyes to focus on the screen at close distance, so you can actually place into some kind of headset.

I tried it with a handheld magnifier similar to this one because I wanted to walk around in the Epic Citadel tech demo with a bluetooth controller, and it worked just fine. Be aware that looking around with a controller is a great way to get motion sick.

Yup thats exactly it, as for selection, cursor already exists in android if you pair it with a mouse - I use a Rii Mini Bluetooth Keyboard It's a tonne of fun.

I also mirror the touch support so you can still tap icons on either side of the SBS (of course when it's incase this is useless)

SBS button in the drop down menu is an amazing idea! Thanks will look into it

I went with these:

And this tape:

I got the Finebest version which is an unbranded Z3. It was Saturday free shipping prime.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018UEVVI2

So, fingers crossed that everything works out well. :)

Just get one that's a good price that comes with a headstrap. If you have amazon prime, get it there so you can get free 2 day shipping.

edit: This is the one I have. I do recommend getting a black one, I've heard that lighter colors can sometimes be distracting.

hmm, this look pretty cool. I found the same/similar thing on amazon prime and just ordered. The link you gave and all similar items were from china, and I don't want to wait that long :)

Cool :) So I assume your battery last long enough to watch the average movie? Oh, something I've been wondering. Are you able to plug in headphones into your phone while it's still in the cardboard or does everyone just use speakers?

Any recommendations for cardboards? Was thinking about getting this one http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LZGBU48/ref=twister_B00LZGBU0C

With a mini USB adapter I bought off of amazon.
Like this

Get the USB controller app from the play store. And presto it works on every game I've tried.

Maybe mod with a 12 inch ruler and a phone to tripod mount something like this:

you could even possibly replace the motorized panning head with an egg timer, something like this

I created similar thread yesterday. After doing bit of research I found Meizu 2 which is not too expensive and it has received good reviews. 1080p, LCD with 401 ppi that'll do great job. http://amzn.to/29Nuimd.

This is the best you'll get in my view for that price range. I couldn't find anything close to it. G3 has too much ppi but hardware isn't there to support it and you get laggy VR performance in some apps.

Stick with LCD if you have limited budget. In my experience pixels are less noticeable than amoled.

This $22 device worked great for audio without drilling, but costs more than the View Master itself!

It's a bit of a problem with ios. I used this mini bluetooth keyboard http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00H88HC4Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_sc_5?qid=1453648606&sr=8-5-spell&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=bouetooth+mini+keyboard

To make it work, I had to use the "Switch Control" function on ios.

Here's the procedure:

a) pair the bluetooth keyboard

b) go to Settings/General/Accesibility/Switch Control/Switches and select "Add New Switch"

c) select "External"

d) push the space bar on you bluetooth keyboard

e) select "Tap"
f) Go back to Settings/General/Accesibility and in "Tap Behavior" select "Always Tap".

g) go to Settings/Accesibility Shortcut and select "Switch Control"

Now, you can use the home button triple tap to turn switch control on and off. With Switch Control on in Street view, you can tap the space button on the bluetooth keyboard to simulate tapping the middle of the screen, which lets you "walk around" in street view.

Enjoy!

Would TTS, Audible, or a stand serve the purpose? Just saying because the glare from a VR headset will fry eyes...

u/wieland · 1 pointr/GoogleCardboard

Windows mixed reality headsets are down to ~$214 new with controllers. It isn't unusual for them to sell for $190 NIB on ebay, $140 w/o controllers.

u/LjLies · 1 pointr/GoogleCardboard

Oh, wait, even with the springy version, that's not enough length to reach phones that have the connector on the "wrong" side? That's going to be bad news for some people.

Anyway while it doesn't have Bluetooth, it's perfectly possible to connect the headset to a small Bluetooth audio receiver (i have a Sony SBH20, no-brands may be cheaper), tape that to the side of the headset (in my case it even fits inside together with the phone, but it's a small phone and a small receiver), and forget about it.

I bought this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MHSPNH8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and i didn't liked. So i was thinking to take this one http://www.durovis.com/dive.html. Has any body tried this product with the nexus 5 ? By the way i tried this one too http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LZGBU3O/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and cardboard sucks.
