Hey, I'm really late to the game. But I hope you're doing well in working around your hand issues.

I myself have severe nerve damage in my right arm which affects the hand a lot. I've always worked out with weight training resistance bands, but ever since I combined a carpal tunnel wrist brace and this weight lifting hook my workouts have improved drastically.

I also have one of those NSD Spinners others have suggested, but yeah.

Good luck, man. We're here for you.

I hope it is not too late to ask a question, I though of opening a seperate thread. I purchased an Everlast Hand and Finger Strengthener and it came with a fitness guide. I am unable to find an image of it online, but nevertheless I was curious as to whether it is a good piece of equipment to start off with. I may be able to get a picture of the fitness guide soon and upload it to show you.

Working in a PT office, we used Powerwebs, which should fit your description and fit your hand.

We also used Digiflexes for the opposing movement.

Hope this helps!

I highly recommend this book from one of the masters of grip strength, John Brookfield

https://www.amazon.com/Grip-Masters-Manual-John-Brookfield/dp/0926888110

It contains a lot of DIY exercsies and just interesting feats to manage.

One of my personal favorites from the book was rebar twirling.

They're SUPER overpriced, they're just ordinary rubber bands. Get some #84 office supply bands. They do the same thing at like 1% of the cost per band. Want more resistance? Use more than one!

Get some 320 grit sandpaper and sand those babies down. Be conservative at first since you can't put skin back on after you take it off. Keep your hands moisturized with a hand care product like Working Hands.

I think I'm visualizing what you're saying. By revolving handle do you mean one of these row handles?

Basically using using the lat machine to create a sort of a grip machine. I like it. A lot of lat machines don't have two pulleys, but some cable stacks do or the cable pec decks, it would work on those too, right?

Do you have a picture of sketch of this setup because it did take a while for me to visualize this from the description.

I think cable machines are an underutilized source of resistance among gripsters and there's some creative uses like this yet to be discovered. Unfortunately I don't have one to mess around with but I think these could be really useful for wrist levering/pronation/supination exercises because of the even resistance (as opposed to sledgehammers that get hardest at the end roms).

Check out One Move Too Many. It is aimed at climbers but there is a lot of really useful information for treating issues with the muscles responsible for grip.

She has a book as well which is probably your next best bet if you can’t shell out to see her. It has a lot of the exercises in there.

I don't think it matters too much. Any chalk is going to get you further than no chalk. I try and keep some Black Diamond Gold Dust on hand for when the gym I go to is out, but I don't go out of my way to use "my own better chalk" or anything.

John Brookfield, the author of Mastery of Hand Strength lists block training as the most unstoppable, unparalleled type of grip training. I'd agree that is more functional since it includes dynamic training (lift the block, clean and press the block, toss and catch the block, etc). There'd be good carryover between this and 2.5" thickbar.

hey guys what gripper resistence should i get? I work out often , don't have amazing numbers tho, 260 deadlift if that matters.

The only gripper i can really get is this brand

i'm torn between 150 lbs and 200 lbs.

Brass bristle brush. Don't use steel wire, it'll damage the knurling. Most nylon are too soft to really get in there.
I use this for all of my knurling needs.

This is a good basic one for $20, but it requires a string to start it. You can learn to start it without the string over time, but it's fairly difficult.

I have this one that costs $40 that has a tensioner built in to make starting it up a breeze. It also has color changing LEDs that indicate how fast its spinning (red is slow, purple is medium, blue is fast).

The string starter isn't a huge pain, but in my experience it decreases the likelihood you'll use it.
