Yeah, I was pretty excited for the variety. The Nemo one is actually a hodge-podge of various Pixar movies as seen here. The Sixties has been on my amazon list for a while and I'm now glad I hadn't ever purchased it. Escher looks very challenging and a save for a long weekend task.

Purchase link: Amazon

Original artist is Leonid Afremov.

Any not-flat pieces or slanted borders you see are due to my poor setup (felt mat over cardboard), rather than the puzzle itself, whose quality was fine.

This is the first puzzle I've completed, at least an an adult. My first purchase was actually this Ravensburger, since I had heard very good things about the quality, the picture looks nice as a whole, and it was inexpensive. But I underestimated how much space I'd need to work puzzles, so I ended up buying a mat, and while I was waiting for the mat to come, I got kind of sick of looking at it part-finished (esp. with all the green and blue). It also wasn't as fun as I'd thought it would be, and it felt like it was because it was a basic photograph, not art.

So anyway, I enjoyed putting this one together a lot more - the varied, vibrant colors made it both fun and challenging. I have a few more 1000pcs in my queue. Maybe I'll return to that Ravensburger some day, though.

You might like this other Ravensburger Paris puzzle. I just finished it tonight - it was really fun and had lots of little interesting details in the image!

I came across this on amazon the other day:

https://www.amazon.com/JIGSTORE-1000-storage-completed-Jigthings/dp/B000LUX7SQ/ref=sr_1_17_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1521000631&sr=8-17-spons&keywords=jigsaw+puzzle+storage&psc=1

It's a bit pricey but it looks like it will store puzzles without having to glue them and would do a decent job. I don't have one, so I can't speak for it directly. but I plan to get this to store some puzzles down the line and the reviews seem good.

They're kinda cheesy, but I really dig these mystery jigsaw puzzles. Basically, you read a little story, put the puzzle together, and solve the mystery in the story using clues found in the puzzle. Enjoy!

The brand is Buffalo Games. I’ve had this one for many years, but it looks like you can find it on Amazon ! There’s also apparently a sequel to this puzzle which I think I now have to buy.

So I always take a puzzle with me on family trips. It turns out that one aunt and one cousin's wife really like them. So they will sit down and work for hours like me. What I find in that case is that two of us can't work on one section at the same time. So like if there is a big blue section of sky - really only one person can work on that. You can both sort for it, obviously. But when you get down to trying every piece to see which one fits "that" spot, you get your "rejected" piece piles confused if you're both working on the sky.

But if there are two sections for us to work on, it goes swimmingly. So I'd say pick a puzzle with a lot of variety - not a big swath of sky or trees or grass.

With that in mind, you could go for a White Mountain collage puzzle. Find a subject that the people in your group might get nostalgic over and pick that: TV, classic movies, books, toys, games, pop culture, beer, candy, rock music, national parks, the 1990's, world travel, the aughts, anyway, you get the idea. There are a lot of subjects that people can go "I remember THAT!" and then maybe tell a story related to it.

Or, you could look for a puzzle based on where you're from. I have always lived around the coast so I do a lot of beach and ocean themed puzzles. Or if you have Disney fans, you could look at the Ceaco Kincade Disney puzzles (but those may violate the first rule I set above - and they're kinda blurry). Star Wars fans? Marvel fans? College football fans (lots of those puzzles around)? General sports fans? Shoe lovers getting ready for Black Friday? Car lovers? Fishermen (yes, I've done that one)? Ornithologists? Entomologists? Paleontologists?

If there are kids in the group, I've had good responses from the Ceaco Selfies series.

Edit: What on earth? Some part of my comment (I think a link) generated a Bot war in here. Very weird.

I don't glue mine. I use this. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000JGQM1Q/ref=ya_aw_oh_pii?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Its kinda expensive but I've done 3 puzzles and it doesn't even look like I've used any. Flip the puzzle over. Apply paper, squeegee, then peel off paper. Glue says on puzzles, then stick a piece of foam board on it and trim to fit. Voila

Try this 1000-piece of Hokusai's The Wave:

This proved to be far harder than I thought it would be. My husband and I burn through White Mountain collage puzzles in four or five hours. This? Took a week of dedicated work.

Also damndably difficult were these 1000-piece M.C. Escher puzzles:

I had no idea jigsaw puzzles were made like that growing up with just grid cut until I got back into puzzling.

Sunsout also has a collection of non grid puzzles like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Dragon-1000-Piece-Jigsaw-Puzzle-Sunsout/dp/B00064SAAW

also shaped puzzles, finished this one a month ago:

http://www.puzzlewarehouse.com/Butterfly-Menagerie-96127so.html

It had tree, umbrella, star, and moon shaped pieces.

If you search Amazon for 'Escher puzzle' you'll find the rest of these torture instruments, as well. Michael's usually carries the Buffalo ones in store for cheap since you can use 40% off coupons on them, but I prefer the Pomegranate ones for quality reasons.

I bought this one to my SO. I think it took us a year or 2 to get 40% done. Every rock and grass looks identical, it's just not fun. We closed it up and have not touched it for a year now. I think that in 6 months we'll give it another go.

u/fireflycities · 3 pointsr/Jigsawpuzzles

Making so much progress on Jungle Impressions! I got reallyyyy stuck for a while when it was about 1/5 done, but I'm finally done with the whole waterfall and sand section.
