I'm not sure what your last sentence is referring to - are you saying it's why you don't want to get professional help?

If you don't want to see a therapist, start with the Anxiety Phobia workbook and do some exploring on your own.

For me, there's often something going on that triggers my anxiety, but I don't realize what it is. It pretty much always feels like it came out of nowhere and I have to do a lot of self reflecting to figure it out.

I see a therapist every other week. I'm on Celexa and actually currently coming off Lamictal (with side-effects even though I carefully planned how to come off of it with my therapist). I've learned all sorts of techniques for dealing with my anxiety and hoping I can eventually come off the Celexa. One big thing is learning the signs that an attack is coming, and that addressing it by thinking, breathing, relaxation, taking a walk, etc. I've tried many different meds and combinations, different therapists, etc. (over the past 13 years) Finally found a therapist that really helps me and a med that works pretty well (still takes lots of effort on my part). I also eat right and exercise at least five days a week, which has been incredibly helpful with my anxiety.

L-Theanine works great for me. It's a supplement that comes from green tea and has virtually no side effects. I researched the hell out of it and couldn't find any. Apparently in Japan they put it in food, drinks, snacks, so it should be really safe.

I now take it everyday on an empty stomach. I feel noticeable yet subtle relaxation effects within 30 minutes which last for about 8-10 hours. I still get anxiety but it feels...blunted, and that has allowed me to deal with things a lot better.

I suffered from the same exact thing you are going through and to deal with it I went through Resilience Training at the Penny George Institue. The program was designed by Dr. Emmons (author of Chemistry of Joy & Chemistry of Calm) and a few other physicians. I can attest that taking control of anxiety and panic attacks takes time, a long time. The program I went through was only 8 weeks long and when it came to an end, I felt like I was just starting to understand what triggers my panic attacks.

I like your attitude that enough is enough and if you truly feel that way, you'll need to invest in yourself. You'll need to take the time to eat well, see a real nutritionist that understands depression and anxiety, not a weightless quack. You'll need to take the time to exercise every day, and I mean every day. You'll need to take the time to "turn off" and practice mindful mediation. Just like how your body needs to rest from a long hike, your mind needs to rest from everyday activities. You will have good days and bad days, but as long as your stick to investing in yourself, you'll a lot more good days than bad.

I definitely feel ya in regards to 'medical anxiety'. I kind of always have a mild hypochondria thing going on, but my anxiety spikes like mad anytime I have a medical issue that causes, say, an ER visit.

If you have finals coming up, that means you're in college of some sort- is there a counselor or therapist at the university you could speak to? I know I have a bad habit of waiting to get treatment until my panic is out of control, and it'll be much easier to deal with if you catch your fears early.

At the least, maybe seek out this book. I was skeptical when this was recommended to me, but it has a lot of good stuff to say. In particular, I'm thinking of a set of steps they lay out when you think you're in medical danger or have the 'I'm gonna die' feeling.

Hope it gets better for you soon. Anxiety is just one of those things that ebbs and flows.
