>That's a gorgeous fence

My wife would digress, she says the curve isn't centered. 2 flats on one side, 3 on the other.

>I am an idiot

C'mon you run trivia nights, I've seen you post here plenty. There are true idiots on this sub, and you're not one of them (IMHO)

>don't know if I could actually do that.

Don't know until you try. I didn't know until I tried, but I had some fencebuilding experience when my family still had ranches (mostly the old men yelling at me to carry wood, sand, nail, no cutting)

This is how I did it. Maybe I can lend a hand, I dunno. You'd have to entertain my wife and kids and maybe feed us or something. Maybe you could do the same for us sometime.

Tools: (mostly cheap harbor freight)

  • Miter box saw. This let's you cut fairly precise angles.
  • Jig Saw. For finishing the curve on top.
  • Drill. For putting things together
  • Hammer Drill. For drilling in cement anchors (Mine is freestanding, not attached to the fence or house)
  • String, for making that swooshy curve.

I started off by measuring. Once I had my measurements in, I took a long hard look at my neighbors fence (we have that picture) and copied the framing. I scaled it for my entryway.

Once I had the basic design down, I drilled in my post cement anchors. I used 4 of these Simpson Strong Tie Fence Anchors. Even after a year, the fence is still as strong as the day I made it.

After I had my posts up, I put the J screw hinge onto the posts and connected some cross members so the posts would shore up against each other.

I took what would become my gate frame, and put the other half of the j screw hinge in. Then I did one final measure now that I knew how much space the hinges took up.

Pulled the 4x4's off the hinge post, and built out the rest of my frame. I made sure to leave plenty of room at the bottom for the gate to swing freely. After the frames were complete, I re-hung them on the J hooks.

Once the frames were up, I began skinning them. I laid a 4x4 at the bottom to give myself spacing (Didn't want the skin scraping) and put up fenceboard. Throughout this entire process, I used deck screws with the star bit. These bits don't slip, and the screws are coated to sort of self lubricate themselves through the wood.

After all the skin was up, I tied a string to where I thought was center at the bottom of the fence. I stretched the string to the top of the fence and tied a crayon to it (just didn't have a pencil) The string acts like a giant compass, and let me make a nice even arc.

Finally, I took a hand held jig saw and sawed along the line at the top making that nice curve.

Only took me a day to knock it out.

Are you sure your pets are the only ones suffering, or is part of the issue the other humans in the house? Advantage can protect animals much of the time, but if fleas get in, sometimes it's on humans, sometimes other yard and garden visitors, and on it's own will provide only moderate protection for the animal, not the humans, and doesn't do a very good job of dealing with the potential for fleas to find temporary food on humans and lay some new eggs.

I wouldn't want to use either of those and feeding your cat/dog insecticides if you weren't already targeting every possible not-inside-your-cat aspects of flea control first. Are you vacuuming every inch of the floor weekly or more frequently (and if you don't have a bagless vacuum, have you put a chopped up flea collar in it to make sure fleas/eggs vacuumed up stay dead)? Are you washing your bedding weekly in hot water? Have you treated the yard and parts of the house off-limits to pets with diatomaceous earth? Advantage might actually have worked for the animals, but then the fleas find a new target (maybe you or someone in your family) and and as long as they can find a little something to feed on, keep on laying eggs. If it seems constant, sometimes animals don't bring them in, but people do, from parks or other outdoor areas or someone else's house or yard where fleas were present, so make sure you don't have another source of "re-infestation."

Lufenuron in Program is pretty toxic and won't help adult fleas, so you still have to use Advantage, it will just prevent some of the female's eggs from hatching if she bites the animal first. (Won't help much at all if the animal is not suffering from fleas but the house is). It's an active ingredient in Sentinel which has been on the market for a long time.

Spinosad is a valuable insecticide in the garden, and you could choose to spray it (http://www.amazon.com/Monterey-LG6135-Contains-Spinosad-32-Ounce/dp/B002BP12LI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404433582&sr=8-1&keywords=%22monterey+garden+insect+spray%22) in your yard now and see if it has an effect (right up the doors). It would need to be repeated once in a 30-day period. It is considered relatively safe for this kind of application (but recommendations for limited application of to avoid insect resistance is a big deal in the garden world), and you could do it tomorrow (OSH and Home Depot sell it, Lowes does not). Side effects for Comfortis is most often vomiting, and if there is anything most pet owners need less of, it's pet vomit, plus that means they are clearly suffering if temporarily, and you might be forgiven for the dreaded vacuum running more easily.

Just trying to provide some alternatives, I know I am tasty as heck to fleas and cannot stand them, and despite indoor-only cats, I have dealt with many infestations. Sometimes by the time you see them, you're already lunch.

There might possibly be somewhere that would do that for a fee... but that fee would almost certainly be higher than the cost of a cheap Circular Saw, like this. Probably half your neighbors have one, too, for that matter.

Or if that's too rich, and you're feeling anti-social, drill a hole in it and use a jab saw... though that will take a while. Sigh... no drill? Yeah, just get the circular saw.

I installed a 3m aqua-pure ap-dws1000 under the sink filter in my house. So far it's done a great job filtering drinking/cooking water. I really like it, tastes great. You will probably need an adapter to hook it up, but it was like $8 from home depot.

I highly suggest you buy a gun. Preferably a hand gun or shotgun. Next time this guy does this, go outside with the gun and tell him to leave. I'd even take a few bullets or shotguns shells in your hand and throw them at the bum. Put on some boots too and give him a good kick too to get him moving. You can't let these dregs of society walk all over you. You have to be firm with them or they'll take everything. Even without having to deal with the bum. I suggest you buy a gun before governor moonbeam and the communist state legislature bans them.

If he attacks you, regardless of the law you have every right to defend yourself. Even with lethal force. That's God's law.

I've had to deal with plenty of bums and hippies squatting around my property and the property of friends/relatives. A good quality mace (not that $6 pepper spray crap) can also be helpful. Especially when used like in that video. Mace likely will only agitate the bum instead of stopping them. So be prepared to have a baton, bat, ax handle, etc ready to smack once they start shuffling over towards you. It's annoying, it's tedious. But if you live in certain parts of the Bay Area you get used to removing degenerates from property.

Yea, I'd day say the noise is a given. I used to live in a downstairs apartment. The upstairs neighbors weren't loud people, but you'd occasionally still be able to hear their steps.

I prefer the top floor.

For now, I'd say get some ear plugs. I shared a room once with a heavy snorer. Had to get ear plugs. $20-$30 a box can last you around half a year.

Where can you get a good price? Amazon has the custard creams for $7/pack which is higher than the $4/pack I'm used to paying (which is already over-priced because it's imported).

Just as a note to the gutter thing: I got gutter guards. Those screens you put on top. SOOOOOO CLUTCH. no big leaves and stuff. You still have to take a look at your gutters everynow and then, but much much much less.

I read this book recently called Junkyard Planet about the history of scrap metal. Apparently, before cars were able to be recycled for scrap metal, they were routinely abandoned. That would be my bet, rather than a "crash".

> Because it's definitely a great idea to start shooting at people who know where you live.

  1. They have broken into your house, you are legally protected by Castle Doctrine.

  2. They were ready to harm people. There's a reason the penalties are MUCH more severe for breaking into an occupied dwelling.

  3. Most criminals commit crimes of opportunity, the last think they're going to want is anything to do with an armed citizen.

  4. Don't miss?

    > eastside where a gang member got pissed off at the host over a minor fight.

There's your problem! Don't associate with criminals! Easiest way to avoid being a victim of a crime.

    > broke the doors down and beat the living shit out of everyone in the house, many of whom were hospitalized. My friend was slashed with a machete on his scalp! Point is, those who live by the sword die by the sword. Starting a tit for tat with a criminals is just end badly no matter what.

    Shoot them. Castle Doctrine.

Edit: Actual video of a Machete Gang Attack (13 attackers) like you're describing: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=67b_1363147658

Remember how I said criminals are cowards?
