Couldnt resist the sns sale on this pair for about $130. and i knew id be blacking out that boost before i bought. (sorry dont see it available any longer, but its on goat and stockx for 120-160ish depending on size.) i wanted to try the full angelus method since heskicks said it lasted on youtube, and it took me 3 days on and off this weekend.

full photo album progress here with comparison pix in different steps of the method and against "OEM" black adidas boost https://imgur.com/a/5RE2d

STEPS

Day 1 – deglaze and dye. Deglazed before dinner, painted dye layer 1, wait 10 mins then dye layer 2. Let dry overnight.

Day 2 – Dye reducer. Feelgoodkicks on youtube said this was important to eliminate cracking and that purpleish sharpie-like tint, so I tried it. Make sure to very lightly roll a Q-tip over your dye work, otherwise else you can completely remove all your work. Later that day I painted with the flat black paint. Waited 10 mins then did a 2nd layer.

Day 3 – Acrylic Paint. Wait 10 mins and do a 2nd layer. Still looked too glossy to me, so I masked the upper and sprayed with krylon later that day. And a 2nd layer a few mins after as the instructions state to get my finished product. Also added alternate laces and gunmetal grey aglets. Didnt end up using the mink oil since Im worried the boost will gloss up, but I still might try some later.

OVERALL TIPS

With any painting, take your time and do LIGHT layers to prevent chipping/cracking as much as possible.

I didnt mask the upper when painting since i went slowly, but paint brushes are actually easier to use very close to the primeknit than the sharpies were. I normally painted that upper edge first, then used a larger brush to paint the main part of the boost.

Krylon spray was a must. Album has a comparison photo with just angelus finish and its super glossy compared to the krylon finish. Using krylon finish alone, however, the paint rubbed off the boost whenever i touched it. so gotta do both

PREVIOUS POST (sharpie method)

https://www.reddit.com/r/Sneakers/comments/7thl9p/iniki_boost_blackout_oil_based_sharpie_matte/

Since the previous sharpie method rubbed off a bit on my fingers, I retouched with the anglus acrylic finish and then krylon again to get it more matte. Seemed to do the job.

I think for the sharpie method id have to add deglazer and angelus finish. so a total of 4 purchases would be good (deglazer, sharpie, angelus acrylic finish, krylon matte finish)

> durable and could last hopefully over 8 months

durable can mean many things, and you seem to need a few different things ...

> I'm getting tired of finding holes both on the inside and outside of sneakers that are months old

So it sounds like you might need hard wearing outers to deal with rocks, brambles, dog walking in long grass. That bit should be easy; choose sneakers meant for off-roading that have leather/suede/hard outers. I'm not sure Adidas PrimeKnit will stand up to dog walking on the sand dunes with tough grass and brambles, for instance, but the Adidas Terrex shoes would do a better job.

> that can handle ~20 miles of walking/jogging per week

Miles per week doesn't matter. Total mileage does. Durable in terms of "soles that last a lot of miles" is not something manufacturers really advertise in sneakers. Most manufacturers advise a max of 500 miles/6 months of wear before you'll see serious sole deterioration that can lead to injury.

Your personal mileage may also vary. Do you "float" as a runner, or stomp? It also depends on your gait (do you have exaggerated gait issues that lead to heavy wear/compression in particular spots of the sole), your weight, how hard you heel-strike/lift-off etc. You might naturally get more than 500 miles out of sneakers, you might naturally get a lot less.

Speaking of gait you should regularly your gait measured (they usually do it for free) at a running store to see if you need neutral/stable shoes for running (or even orthotics) to make sure you don't exacerbate any issues and lead to injuries.

> I walk/jog/ and work all in the same pair.

I don't know what your work is. If it is just sitting then the only concern here is the amount of time you have the shoes on your feet, and how smelly/sweaty they'll get. If it is a lot of walking and manual labour (lifting/twisting your feet on the spot) that's another. Something like the continental soles on the newer adidas terrex/boosts etc. might make the soles last longer, particularly if you find you've been wearing the tread in the same spot on your old pairs. They also might be safer as they are grippy on slick floors.

Given you wear them every day, as much as anything else it's about how you look after them. I would make sure you dry them every night so they don't rot/smell. After you take them off loosen the laces and let them breath for twenty minutes. If they got rained on then take out the insoles and stuff with newspaper to help them dry them out properly. Once dried/if not rained on then use cedar shoe trees to kill bacteria, make them smell good and stop them rotting inside (they only cost $20, get them 3 sizes smaller than your shoes and take out the springs if they look like they might stretch them). Don't put them in a warm place to dry every day; that just helps the bacteria grow.

----------------

TL;DR

  • You seem to want durable outers. If you wear holes in your outers quickly then get shoes meant for trail running/off-roading with hard-wearing material.
  • You also seem to want soles that last (8 months of 20 miles a week = 640 miles) but most manufacturers recommend a 500 mile/6 month limit on soles for running shoes. You may just have to revise expectations on that. However getting your gait analysed will help pick soles that match/help your gait and may decrease the wear on certain spots on the soles/cushioning.
  • You also wear them every day; there's no fix there other than drying them out every night using newspaper/cedar shoe trees to stop them rotting/smelling.

IRIS USA, Inc. 586430 IRIS Easy Access Men's Shoe Box, 4 Pack, Wide, Clear https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZOJIGB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_-fuLDb8W2JKEE

These are a size 12 and fit perfectly inside. I also have fit a size 13 high top dunk in there and the top of the tongue justttttttt touches the lid but it doesn’t hurt anything though. For the high tops you could order the “tall” variant which look pretty nice but I don’t have any of them since I mostly like Lows.

For 4 containers it is $30 compared to $57 for 6 containers at The Container Store.

https://www.amazon.com/Sharpie-Oil-Based-Paint-Marker-Medium/dp/B00KGCOZ9Y/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1517510249&sr

The white paint is next to identical compared to the white boost. Oil-based so it's water and fade resistant. Also, works great on boost because the material acts like a sponge and absorbs the oil.

Start by giving the midsole a thorough cleaning with acetone (nail polish remover) and cotton swabs. Then apply. Great for hot spots or full coverage.

First, Congrats on your pickup!!

Second: This is what I use for all my J1's: https://www.amazon.com/JWONG-ANGELUS-Angelus-Easy-Cleaner/dp/B01ED8P3HO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525115149&sr=8-1&keywords=angelus+shoe+cleaner

Third: You can use a leather conditioner on them to keep them supple and to prevent cracking. However, you will likely be ready for a new pair before you really have to worry about cracking. There are quite a few good products out there, with some being much more expensive than others.

Fourth: Enjoy your new kicks and wear them with pride!!

I have these cedarwood shoe trees from a German manufacturer for $22 each. These shoe trees from amazon.com seem to be similar to them and the price is very good as well. Shoe trees are the most important part of shoe care (but never use them with primeknit).

I used a fabric shaver when I had a pair to get rid of the lint on the sock liner. Very safe to use and works great.

u/CozyThurifer · 1 pointr/Sneakers

Eh unsure I've honestly never used crep protect because I already knew of better product at the time I know Jason mark was terrible though

Maybe consider buying this and letting me know what you think

Sneaker laundry's shoe cleaner is insane but it's pretty expensive since they ship from Australia I believe

I clean my sneakers with this

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D12KGVW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Works for me. Careful with the brush on fabrics, might want to use another brush for a softer shoe/fabric.

The Ultimate Sneaker Book is a good one. I’ve been meaning to get it myself

u/Renjayy_ · 4 pointsr/Sneakers

Yeah unfortunately they don't come out unless you paint them like stated before , here is the marker I use

u/dapperscientist · 4 pointsr/Sneakers

I purchased mine from a local hobby store quite some time ago. However, something like this vinyl or even cheaper ones should do the trick.

I wear a size 15 and I use the wide version of this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LZOJIGB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I turn the shoes on their sides and they fit. My Space Jam 11s poke out just a little but it basically still closes.

For the prime knit I would just use a sneaker shoe cleaner you can find on Amazon.

u/threespades · 2 pointsr/Sneakers

Just For Kicks. It may also be on netflix still. Bobbito has a book Where'd you get those.

u/testudo · 2 pointsr/Sneakers

no-show socks with little heel grippy things so they don't slide down underneath of your foot when you walk.

u/zepppelin · 2 pointsr/Sneakers

This + small paintbrush. There are only a few sections that need to be painted. Took about an hour total with 4 coats per shoe.

u/wtfeagle · 4 pointsr/Sneakers

Here's the link, I just laid it over the top of each stripe in strips and cut it with an exacto knife.
