No, the Premier is done the old way.

This section of the Tivo Community forums is dedicated to upgrading. This thread and this sitecovers the upgrading process and provides links to tools. If you need an image, then posting a request in this thread](http://www.tivocommunity.com/community/index.php?threads/need-an-image-dont-pm-me.388695/) should get you it - make sure to use the model number.

I believe the Premier is limited to 2tb drives (which gets you a little over 300hr of recording time) - more correctly, it can use bigger drives, but will only address 2.3tb. Additional hackery can be done to address larger drives - as weekknees does sell 8tb drives setup for Premiers. Drive wise, this one should be fine, but double check on the tivo forums.

Good luck!

If you have intermediate PC skills, you can replace the drive yourself. The best thing about the Roamio and the new Bolt is that they both auto format any new hard drive you put into them up to 3TB.

This is the hard drive often recommended for the Roamio.

I'd recommend checking out TiVo Community for more info as well as assistance since it's a pretty vibrant place.

I might not fully understand your requirements, but I've had pretty good luck with my TiVo Bolt, and about 5 other devices, plugged into this 8-way HDMI switcher:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005S0YNNM

I programmed my Harmony remote so that it can set that device to any of its 8 inputs. (And through some quirk, the remote has to hit the command twice.) But once it's on HDMI, it works.

The TiVo is always on, so I put it and Apple TV last into the last 2 inputs. But I also don't rely on the auto-switch feature.

Note: The device is not perfect, but it works with my TiVo Bolt.

Yeah. Browsing through Amazon it looks like the selection has gone down a lot since I got mine back around the DTV transition in 2009. It used to be the SD ones were around $20 and a decent HD one was $50 or so and there were tons of different ones.

These were the only nice ones I found:

If you can find a Tivo for cheaper than that then go for it but I wouldn't consider the Tivo to be an exceptionally good tuner. It's decent but I live on the edge of where you can get OTA signals with a small indoor antenna and my Premiere actually had a harder time locking in on the channels than the tuner that's built-in to my TV.

You've identified the fix -- using a 3 way splitter as you've described will work. Just make sure the splitter is MoCA compliant and that the tuner is connected to the Bolt via USB. I have a similar setup to you with cable running to modem, tuner and Bolt in one TV cabinet. Only difference is that I'm in a single family home so I was able to run my signal from the street thru a POE filter and into one of these and it has worked like a charm. Not sure if an amp would be necessary or advisable in an apartment setting -- you may be able to get away with a simple splitter

The cost appears to be higher than Amazon and the warranty isn’t comparable. I came across the WD10JUCT (1TB) for $54.99 and a 3 year warranty. The WD20NPVX (2TB) is priced at $142.55 and a 2 year warranty. Does Western Digital have one for 3TB that is only 2.5"? I hear they are the best brand.

Yesterday I just discovered Amazon Fire TV Recast. I don't know much about it, but it looks like a DVR similar to TiVo. Looks like it's only available for OTA.

With satellite not being used, check out MoCA. IMO, it is way more reliable than WiFi. They will require a bit of an investment.

I bought these a few years ago, they work really well: https://www.amazon.com/Actiontec-Bonded-Ethernet-Adapter-ECB6200K02/dp/B013J7O3X0/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=MoCA+adapter&qid=1558476543&s=gateway&sr=8-3

Amazon Search: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=MoCA+adapter&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

Prior to the Actiontec devices, I was using some MoCA 1.1 devices from Netgear. If it wasn't for the sale a few years ago, I'd still be using them.

If you go with MoCA, you may want this filter at the entry point: https://www.amazon.com/Filter-MoCA-Cable-coaxial-networks/dp/B00KO5KHSQ/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=MoCA+filter&qid=1558476808&s=gateway&sr=8-3

This Seagate SSHD is pretty cheap. If you wanted to go "whole hog" (7200 rpm) this Dell 2TB would be way overkill ;)

  1. You have to use a tivo certified WD eSATA drive to expand space.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001UHOR88/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1491704172&sr=8-9&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=wd+esata+drive
  2. You can NEVER disconnect this drive or you lose all recordings. This is a security precaution so you don't move the Drive.
  3. You cannot transfer write-protected shows, but you can stream them.

What is specifically wrong with your HDMI switch connection? I have my Premiere on this switch and it's been working wonderfully.

I moved my TiVo network over to powerline

Use one for each TiVo device and one by your router.

I use this on everything

I have my Tivo and Raspberry Pi going into my xbox through an HDMI Switch. I can switch to the Raspberry Pi with no issues, but if I switch to the Tivo the screen is just dark and nothing comes through. I can switch back to the Raspberry Pi with no issues. This is the switch I am using:

I don't need 4K or anything like that, but I might try the two port version of the Monoprice Blackbird Pro.
