I've ran with a Cobra 5500 and I'm now using a Garmin trucking GPS units. I'd recommend either. That being said, don't let the GPS tell you what to do. Cross check all GPS routing with your iphone or a paper atlas (better) before departing. You should always invest in a current paper atlas.

Also on routing, always request directions on the qualcom. Other drivers have been to these shippers and consignees before you. This will help keep you out of no truck zones. If the GPS says different don't listen to it.

Yes any equipment you buy for the truck is tax deductible. If it's going to be more than your standard deduction then save those receipts.

Have you gone out with your trainer yet? Hopefully you'll get an easygoing, professional, clean, safe, trainer. If that's not the case have the fleet manager take you off that truck.

Never driven for Roehl though I have driven for a few common carriers on the east coast. Always happy to help a redditor-driver. Feel free to PM me I'll give you my number if you wish to bounce any other questions off me.

Edit: grammar

The fans are replaceable with higher end dual ball bearing muffin fans from Newegg/amazon/ebay. The cooler in these very very rarely go bad. Its the fans.

One 60x60x10mm 12v fan inside. One 92mm fan on top. Takes a lil wiring to put them in. Chose your brand and specs.

I also highly recommend lopping the end off the cord and putting spade connectors on it (keeping track of which is positive and negative). Then unplug the plug on the back side of the cigg lighter adapter, and plug it into the harness directly. Normally that harness has a "T" shape. The top flat part is normally negative, the vertical bit is usually positive.

My Coleman is 7 years old at this point. I've replaced the fans twice. Still puts ice on water bottles.

Love finding these thrown in the trash (hopefully without a ton of spoiled food). Re fan them, clean em up, and sell them at truckstops for 50 bucks.

> a quick, easy way to heat food

Thought about a "lunch box oven" like this one? Its only $35, runs off the 12v cigarette lighter plug, and uses disposable aluminum linings. You can get the same linings from Walmart like 3 for a dollar or so.

Its not as fast or quite as versatile as a microwave, but you can make pretty good food without an inverter or propane.

If you have an inverter in the truck, you can find a lightly used mini fridge for under $100 on craigslist.

If not, my dad has a cooler with a basic heat exchanger and a computer fan on it. It plugs into the cigarette lighter and uses barely any power. A bag of ice will last him days but the heat exchanger gets frost buildup so you have to clean it off every 24 hours or else the fan blades start hitting it.

EDIT: This is what he has. You can even set it on the side and it will open like a normal fridge but you can't have ice like that or it will spill out. http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Quart-PowerChill-Thermoelectric-Cooler/dp/B0083F8YZC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1463780138&sr=8-2&keywords=12v+cooler

Asolo Fugitive GTX. I loved them so much I bought two more pair. One for work, one for regular life, and a pair in the closet for down the road. Expensive but awesome.

Backstory: I'm a fleet manager and one of my drivers go pulled over for a DUI near the Texas/Mexico border. We got got his truck back a few days later and went through it looking for booze and what not. What we found was a dick pump (the picture above), some of this stuff, a stack of porno, and condoms. In addition to a layer of cigarette ash and random food trash.

Whistler pro

KrIeger2000 watt

Power bright 200 watt pure sine

I'd stay away from the truck stop invertors I've heard plenty of bad stuff about them and have had issues with the ones I've bought.

I bought the whistler pro a few years back, never had any issues with it. Still have it and it's been sitting in a tote in my shed for the last year or so.

Fucking idiot pick-up driver, deserves to be shot. Still the truck driver could have stopped especially since this is an uphill. I know it would be extremely inconvenient.

Unfortunately the truck driver will get a preventable accident for this.

Oh also I do have a dashcam. $32 on amazon with memory card. It is not the best but it does the job. Audio recording is lacking but the video looks just like yours. I have seen these on sale at truck stops for $100.
