Awesome video, love the multiple shots/angles. How many cameras did you bring?!?! lol

Regarding the crash, I'm not as big of an advocate for pads as I should be considering I sometimes ride with the same outfit (shorts, short sleeve tee) but I ALWAYS wear full fingered gloves. I'm a dev so if anything happens to my hands or they get scraped up too much to type I'm kinda f**** lol. I wear these (http://amzn.com/B00NIQR1PK) tactical gloves because they breath really well in the 50-70 degree weather here. I'll probably be getting more pads for my knees and elbows too for when I ride with shorts and short sleeve. I'd recommend buying a new helmet as well if it looks like its been deeply impacted just to make sure it holds up in the future.

  • Helmet, as others have mentioned. Find one that fits you well. I wear a Bell Segment because it's the only one that fits my melon properly.
  • Pads. I love my G-Form PRO-X knee and elbow pads. They're soft, flexible, lightweight, and thin, but on impact they transform into a hard protective layer.
  • Backpack. Something like the Chrome Barrage Cargo is great because of the netting which can be used for your helmet, but my daily pack is a Timbuk2 Alcatraz. It's just enough bag that I can carry a first-aid kit, spare belts, skateboard tool, charger, pads and helmet. Riding the board (with pads and helmet on) I don't even notice it's there.
  • Flatland 3D bash guards and remote ring.
  • Spare lanyards. My original lanyard ripped off when I caught it on a chainlink fence. Got a pack of these spares from Amazon.
  • Flat sole shoes. I go my Vans but whatever you like.

Any Velcro will do but this is the one I got. The length fits this lock diameter perfectly so it takes a second or two to strap each one down each time.

BLITZU Cyborg 120T USB Rechargeable LED Bike Tail Light. Bright Bicycle Rear Cycling Safety Flashlight, Fits Road, Mountain Bikes, Helmets. Get The Front Headlight and Back Set for Kids Men and Women

the light is super bright, i think put the light on the helmet has better visibility if compared put it on the boardside

What's up guys!
Still trying to find something better, battery-wise, but overall I like the aesthetic of it. Here's what I bought:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B013FZHD1K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I attached the battery pack on the side of the Boosted battery with gorilla tape (duct tape) and used hot glue around the board to stick the lights. Here's a pic of the back of the board.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0EaUVYwJYZESVF6cnJIM3lzWEE/view?usp=sharing

If you have any suggestions about it, let me know. I'd like some feedback

u/pleikunguyen · 1 pointr/boostedboards

Where are you located btw? I'm silver spring maryland

Also, full disclosure I was going to run some hill and speed tests versus a carbon GT with /u/Mr_Mahal before selling it just because we're both solid riders and he's making comparison videos.
We'd be putting some of this Bra stuff:

https://www.amazon.com/Clear-Paint-Protection-Bulk--25-inches/dp/B00B3IXSMA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1467116917&sr=8-2&keywords=clear+bra+3m

On the new and shiny parts of the board stay looking new.

Ideally we would film on Saturday night or potentially thursday night if we can get comfortable with our boards enough to go full speed by then and if weather permits. unfortunate time for rain in this area lol.

Also for the test drive, I'd like you to either bring the $1050 for me to hold and sit there watching/helping you test ride or something like your phone & wallet as collaterall, just so you don't turn out to be a BB pro and ride off into the sunset :P

I have a Triple 8 Brainsaver. It's cheap, looks good, and does the job :p I fell and the side of the helmet got decently scraped. Nothing happened to my face/head. The full face helmets look really cool but they're a bit pricey. I ordered another Triple 8 helmet for $26 :D It definitely doesn't break the bank lol.

EDIT: Get a certified helmet instead. The Triple 8 Brainsaver wiith Sweatsaver helmet is good for low speed impacts. It will not protect you from high speed impacts. I just ordered the certified Triple 8 helmet and will be returning the other one that I purchased.

I use shedlights mounted to my board and a helmet light, i find this to be a good combo. The helmet light is the most important and the only thing i have found to give you enough time to spot things in the road. I bought this helmet light recommended by Mr. Mahal and it has been fantastic http://www.amazon.com/Headlamp-Flashlight-Rechargeable-Lightweight-Comfortable/dp/B013COPT6K?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00. Lots of people were recommending $100-$200 helmet lights and this one is more than sufficient IMO for only $30.

I changed the bearings to reds following: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0B43P1zPmZQ and the front wheels roll much much longer and i get a bit more mileage now (awesome job to the original poster)

I added the nose guard from http://www.motionboardshop.com/products/oberand-noseguard-loaded-vanguard-longboard

I added blitzu lights that fit perfectly around the trucks. Back: http://www.amazon.com/Blitzu-Cyclops-120T-Rechargeable-Light/dp/B00W7Y27CQ

front: http://www.amazon.com/Generation-Blitzu-Cyclops-Rechargeable-Headlight/dp/B00W7XFCH4

to prevent scratches i added 3M car door guard strips i had lying around to the bottom. They are hard plastic similar to what are on sliding gloves long boarders use. I got them from auto zone, after a few hits just peel them off and stick new ones on. They are designed to stick onto car doors on cars going 60 mph or faster so it stays put

These are what the lights look like at "night", basically in the bathroom in total darkness: http://postimg.org/image/bpdwkbh57/ my camera can't pick up the brightness level properly but these basically light up the whole floor in front of you and for a good 4-5 feet out which is why i prefer they naturally point down so i dont blind anyone

u/verysmallschlong · 1 pointr/boostedboards

gloves are fine, but you can find a better pair for cheaper in a homedepot, however I'd suggest spending more for a pair with pucks.

like this

since it will handle an infinte amount of falls whereas regular gloves will need to be replaced every fall (90% of the time)

Remember where you first started driving? Same places, practice in Church and HS parking lots, ideally when they are empty! As a beginner you should seriously think about wrist guards and knee pads. Here in the North there is an added danger right now of sand on the roads, so as you start to push your turning radius the chances of sliding out are greater because of it. Which is what the wrist guards and knee pads are for. You can get a serviceable set for ~$20, well worth in until you are more comfortable. This assumes you are always wearing a helmut:-)

Would be really nice if it could be powered by something like this. That would be a clean setup

u/Gavin887788 · 1 pointr/boostedboards

That could work this too. It protects cars from rocks, salt, snow, scratches pretty much everything.

First of all, you picked a great helmet! They're a start-up from the bay-area. I'm sure they'll sort this out for you, no problem.
If you haven't already, here's a youtube video about their 'journey'.

Also, here's a link to their Heritage Collection, Navy that I was really wanting to get.

I also really liked the one made by BERN - Unlimited Lenox, imo, a bit more rugged looking due to the longer back and also has more vent holes for air circulation.

Look for the ABUS Hyban, German/Swedish helmets are of amazing quality and this model has rear integrated light. It also has a winter kit available. If you need a front light, get a standalone helmet light like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TJYJ3F6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which will be powerful-enough to light up the road in front of you.

Any camera or key chain lanyard will do so long as it's thin enough to thread through the loop.

I broke mine early on and ordered these. Actually turn out to be much better because they have a nifty quick release snap that makes it much easier to quickly detach the controller from your wrist when necessary:

20 seconds per screw, I'd say it's more like 6-7 minutes total.

Or carry something like this in your bag.

I was considering Triple 8, but ended up ordering the Dakine. When I ordered from Amazon yesterday, they didn't have med size. Another vendor had it, but they were $24 for medium and all other sizes were way cheaper. So, I went with Dakine. Both items have decent reviews...

The case I use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E2217I6

Pics of the board fitting in the case:

I use a small electric driver to make removing and replacing the battery fast and easy: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TM2T9C2

FYI- TSA will not let you take electric tools as carry on and you must check it. I just throw it in the rifle case along with the board.

Taking the entire board as carry on is also possible. I've done it before, but it's a coin flip getting it through TSA. Some agents allow it and others don't. Enforcement is very uneven. Also, when you do get it on you will hog an entire overhead bin space with your skateboard which I dislike doing. I find checking the board to be much less of a hassle.

I have the Lumina too, I use this to mount it on the side of my helmet.

I went with these guys.
Dakine Wristguard (1-Pair), Black, Medium https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CJ3CUK4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_zsAvOrj3pv1Gy
I think someone here recommended them a few weeks back.
Not gloves but my palms are covered and they're mainly to stop me from breaking a wrist.

I absolutely hate how fingerless gloves doesn’t protect my fingers from the grip tape fray when transporting the board. I bought these and will report in once I use them for a spell:
