i have the standard xbox gamepad BUT with the wireless adapter.

The controller also connects via bluetooth (for android etc), but via wifi adapter is so much better on windows, you can even connect the headphones in the gamepad and even have virtual surround using windows sonic or razer surround.

but beware the dpad position on the xbox is different than usual (ex. dualahock4), most users dont like that, i mostly use the dualshock4 but wired.

Altought i played deadcells before with the xbox gamepad in 5BC, and in the 2nd day using it (with no xbox gamepad experience) i reached astrolab smoothly, the dpad surprised me, despite being weirdly positioned is very good.

p.s.: the bonus of having the xbox gamepad in windows is .. its compatible with EVERY game, with the dualshock4 i have to use third party apps for compatibility sometimes, the best one being steam (ex. you can launch emulators or non steam games with steam and steam gives full support to any gamepad)

I use this controller, https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XB6FRPR/ bought it a few months ago and works very well.

I use an XBox One controller. Standard wired XBox controller will also work. (Playing this, among a bunch of other platformers and fighters suddenly, killed my other controller so I upgraded to the XB1)

If you get an XB1 controller, the USB receiver is $20 on Amazon.

Controller w/receiver combo: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-CWT-00001-Controller-Wireless-Adapter/dp/B01M5GG9I7/

Receiver by itself: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-Packaging/dp/B0785SFKYF

Wired controller I'd recommend if you want to go the cheap (price, not quality) route: https://www.amazon.com/Afterglow-Wired-Controller-Xbox-360-Red/dp/B00EZKNT5O/

My worry is about delay and connectivity. With a game like Deadcells, even a few frames extra of lag with the controller can be pretty bad.

But the only wired controller long enough to support my setup has shitty buttons, so I need to buy a wireless one. Tired of getting a new controller every few months. I've went through three in the span of my play with Deadcells.

Ten foot cable is nice. But... yeah..
