I think you would be best served by asking your ergonomic keyboard question at /r/mechanicalkeyboards and giving your price range.

However, if you have $$ and space, kinesis and maltron make really good ergonomic keyboards.

I swapped to Dvorak because I was getting pains in my wrist if I typed for too long. The pain didn't completely go away just from swapping but it is definitely so much better. I didn't find it too difficult on my right pinky or anything. If you're typing English, all the common letters are in much easier patterns. Once you get used to them it feels so much better typing with this layout. I would definitely recommend it. The other thing to try if you're having pains like I was is an alternate keyboard. I swapped to this:

Using that keyboard and the swap to Dvorak has completely stopped any pain I was getting. Definitely worth the cash for it I think!

Return your keys to their QWERTY position. Get a set of 1/4” high letter stickers and put them on the forward edge (front side) of the key rather than on the top. Something like this .

Alternatively, once you’re ready, pick up a mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX keycaps andswap the keycaps. The Kinesis Freestyle Edge RGB is my current recommendation.

I thought I saw some a few years back, but looking now, I can't find any. It is possible I just saw a laptop.with a replacement cover.

The Dvorak keyboard is something like 75 years old (I'm in my early 40s).

I had come across this Kenisis Keyboard, which at the time was Qwerty/Dvorak switchable (but was too expensive for me to buy). I was still intrigued by Dvorak and did some research (the web did exist in 1993). At the time I was using a UNIX workstation and found that I could easily set it up to use Dvorak (at the time, setting up Windows to do the same was not easy). I don't remember where, but I did eventually find a Dvorak Keyboard book. This doesn't teach you how to type on it the layout, but rather is a history of the keyboard layout. Wikipedia will probably be less "preachy" about Dvorak than this book, but it was an interesting read.

Oh, and now I use a blank Das Keyboard (both at home and at work - just to mess with people). My WPM is in the high 70s, low 80s most of the time. If I get in the zone, I can hit 130. However, I'm usually typing in code or UNIX commands, so WPM is fairly meaningless.
