Can you describe exactly what you are looking for? Replacement keycaps with custom letters/fonts/designs? Stickers? You can get stickers from most places such as eBay or Amazon. You can put them on the top, front or anywhere on the keycap. You can also order vinyl letters from online stores. Usually they cut the vinyl for the letters so you can just roll your face on the keyboard to get every letter and symbol. You may have to type out words such as Enter, Shift, Backspace, Ctrl, Alt, etc.
Return your keys to their QWERTY position. Get a set of 1/4” high letter stickers and put them on the forward edge (front side) of the key rather than on the top. Something like this .
Alternatively, once you’re ready, pick up a mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX keycaps andswap the keycaps. The Kinesis Freestyle Edge RGB is my current recommendation.

Not sure how viable this one is but I worked with the Glyphs software before and it is amazing. I had it for mac, it allows you to make your own fonts.
You could also have a letter in his favourite font 3d printed which is really cool. I think it would be roughly $40 for something about “2x”2x”1.
