INTP/ENTP "spiritual person" here. Your routine and motivation is not the root issue. The self-hate is the root issue. The way you view yourself and how you relate to yourself (and by extension, the world) is very very dysfunctional, and I guarantee it's fucking up your life in more ways than one.

The negative self-talk is not reality, not objective, and not who you really are. The voice in your head is not only wrong and destructive, it's not even you.

You have a disconnect between different parts of yourself. You hate being "grounded" because when you're in that state, your ego isn't in charge, and you're forced to look at everything inside you you've been fighting. Learn to sit with that pain and not fight it... just let it happen, and watch it swell and then recede. This is, in essence, mindfulness meditation.

Try reading some of these, based on what stands out to you. They are all helpful.

  • The Power of Now --A book about the true nature of self and reality. Heavy Eastern influence. This book has influenced me the most out of the list, and maybe even altered the course of my life.

  • Radical Acceptance --A Buddhist book about loving yourself fully and completely. You are worth it!

  • 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos --A book by a brilliant man about how to live in a world defined by pain and suffering. Heavy Jungian influence. Quotes and references the Bible a lot, but from a Jungian/Campbellian perspective. Occasionally questionable politics.

  • Iron John --A sort of esoteric book filled with poetry and fairy tales about how to be a man. Heavy Jung/Campbell influence.

  • The Enchiridion by Epictetus --This is one of the best introductions to Stoicism, and it's free. Written circa 125 CE.

  • Feeling Good --CBT book clinically shown to be as effective as antidepressants. Your post is filled with things this book addresses directly. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

  • The Happiness Trap --A book about ACT, which is similar to CBT with more mindfulness. Basically CBT tries to get rid of/replace the distorted images of yourself and the world, and ACT tries instead to see them for what they really are, which are meaningless ramblings of an organ using evolved mechanisms to protect its host, and as such are safely ignored.

Tl;dr: Learn to be kind to yourself, love yourself, and accept yourself just as you are right now, flaws and all.

I didn't know what a 'hand blender' was, sounded painful, but it's just another term for what I know as an 'immersion blender'. I have the kitchenaid one, myself. I like it better because it comes apart for cleaning and has a few other attachments. The best attachment is the whisk. The little food processor jar is pretty garbage.
This is the one I have(it's significantly more expensive):

Sounds to me like you're having some mild symptoms and blowing it out of proportion in your head. The mind can screw with you in weird ways. I think you should get some digestive enzymes and try taking one before every meal, it really helps break down the food and help your body process it better. I get these because I've always had issues eating large meals as well. It may be that you have some mild food allergies, but that can't stop you from eating, your body needs those nutrients! Maybe you could also try cutting out certain things to see if it helps, wheat, sugar, etc. Good luck!

Your body won't be able to tell if you're getting calories from solid foods or liquid. It will use the macros the same.
Just like most of Rich's fans can't tell what is muscle and what is synthol on him.
But seriously, there are far better YouTubers to follow over Rich.

Shakes are great. Convenient and very easy to make. Mine is simple.

  • 2.5 cups of whole milk

  • 1 cup of 1-minute oats

  • 1 scoop of whey protein

  • Peanut butter if you really feel you need more calories

    Blend

Thanks for the reply! I'm currently drinking a whey protein based shake. Adding some flax seed oil, peanut butter and chia seeds for extra calories. I did some research and found that that brand had the most protein. But the one you recommended also looks pretty good because it's geared towards weight gain - also pretty cheap. Would I be losing anything if I made the switch?

I got one of these backpacks and they're awesome. Keeps food cold for a long time and you can hold a LOT of food in them.

Load them up with food that doesn't require cutting. You could do something like meatballs, or cook up a bunch of meat, cut it up, and put it sliced. I've had good luck with ribs that way.

Read Quiet Your Mind and Get to Sleep. Great generalized insomnia workbook.

The basic gist of it is that you should take at least an hour to relax before bedtime. If you need to wake up at 6:30am, in a perfect world you'd be falling asleep at 10:30pm. This means that your computer is off and you're just chilling out at 9:30pm. But not near your bed though. If you do activities near your bed your mind will associate your bed with alertness. So find a place in your home to read away from your bedroom until you feel nice and tired, then hit the hay.

Pick up some Fat Gripz and slap them on an easy bar and do heavy reverse curls super set with forward forearm curls. You wont be able to turn the dial on a lock after a session with these. I promise.

u/cjk813 · 2 pointsr/gainit

You can try out these. Just Incorporate them into your regular lifting routine and they'll boost your grip strength pretty fast, or you can do forearm isolation work. There are a lot of grip strength articles on bodybuilding.com

NOW Isolate. It's not too expensive if you get the 5-lb tub, but you may want to get the smaller tub just to try it out. The macros are pretty good too: 110 calories for 25g protein with minimal ingredients.

Thanks! I got a cheap Valeo like this one from some sports store in town, it's stiff but I found to be pretty uncomfortable. I'll look into buying a new belt, about time for an upgrade I think.

Also, what is your opinion on things like straps/versa grips?

u/mrsenormonsieur · 2 pointsr/gainit

Not really gains but for strength: this and this have worked well for me.

If you have any money or room for one, for $20 this blender is pretty good:

Oster My Blend

600ml, fairly easy to clean (hard to get rid of the smell, though), and relatively compact compared to conventional blenders.

I am a registered dietitian and have seen many clients with high triglycerides. This is my personal view: "Everyone is unique with different nutritional needs." Since I don't know your situation (medical history, diet habits and lifestyles" well enough, I cannot provide very specific recommendations. But in regards to lowering triglycerides, here are four simple steps:
Step 1: Limit Processed Sugar to 6 Teaspoons
Step 2: Eat the Right Amount of Carbohydrates
Step 3: Consume Oils and Fats in Moderation
Step 4: Have an Adequate Amount of Dietary Fiber

For more information, please read my latest book: http://www.amazon.com/Food-Guide-Lowering-Blood-Triglycerides/dp/1519643160/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452483206&sr=8-1&keywords=triglycerides+book

From a pill supplement form, there are really only a few "vitamins" that I would suggest. This is a quick list:

  • Men's Multi Vitamin ( Rainbow Light) - Basic maintenance
  • ZMA (Optimum Nutrition) - Taken before bed on empty stomach for sleep and recovery
  • Fish / Krill Oil (Viva Fish Oil)

If you eat plenty of macro-nutrient dense whole foods, you should not have to take any more pills than this.

Get the chocolate whey, peanut butter, whole milk. this will make it taste like a shake, and not coagulated powder balls. Also greek yogurt + whey = chocolate pudding.

Power Rack, Bench, Olympic Bar and Plates.

If you do not have the room for a power rack you can start with these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L5QE3L0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

But when you start lifting and squatting heavy you should really make room for the power rack. Sometimes you get stuck at the bottom of a squat and need to bail.

Then add the bench to slide in and out when needed: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002QJZAE4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00

If you squat each workout you really don't have to worry about the leg extensions on the bench, just if you really want the extra work.

I have this blender and have to say it rocks! I never wanted to do shakes because I just had a normal blender here, and they're too annoying to clean. With that thing I just put some soapy water in it right after I'm done and pulse it for a little.

As for cooking, it really isn't hard. Just get your protein in and stick with it. I've been eating 6 eggs scrambled with ham and cheese with 4 pieces of toast everyday for 2 weeks now, and equally large lunches and dinners but I still weigh the same. So just stick with it, and eat a lot of peanut butter.

Do back excercises, bicep excersices (expecially reverse grip curls), and maybe buy some fat gripz if you want to go the extra mile. Also, this will murder your forearms https://www.amazon.com/Wrist-Forearm-Blaster-by-GoFit/dp/B0007W2FJA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1524865629&sr=8-3&keywords=forearm+workout

I used to weigh 130lbs at 5'11" and when I decided to gain weight, eating sucked. Consistently hitting my calories was difficult with solid food. I tried Optimum Nutrition's Pro Gainer and it helped a lot. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015R3A1S?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00. I'm now at 180lbs.

Nowadays, I only really use it if I haven't met the day's calories or if I'm hungry before I go to bed. I think using weight gainer at first is not a bad idea at all. Once the kid gets used to the higher calorie intake combined with his lifting, he'll naturally eat more as his appetite will grow. Mine did.

But his unwillingness to focus on his diet is concerning. He needs to understand that to get stronger/bigger he needs to eat more. There's just no way around it. Have you sat down with him and calculated his TDEE? Install the My Fitness Pal app on his phone and have him track his calories. Explain that if he doesn't cover his TDEE, he won't grow. Once he visually sees a numerical goal, maybe he'll be able to push the limits of his appetite. One day at a time.
