Yeah definitely go with the feet, the mats help a little (I’ve tried them in the past) but some rubber feet will really clean up the sound a surprising amount. Hey, as long as your happy with it that's all that counts. I wish I would've started my audio journey back in college. If you're looking for a nice little desk setup check out the Edifier R1280Ts. You can usually find them on Amazon for around $79 cert. refurbished and they are great starting point.
Also it looks really good. You got some quality pieces here with plenty of room for upgrades in the future. The Ikea Kallax is really the go to console to keep gear nice and tidy on.
Something like this may be cheaper than speaker stands, especially if you do not have the room for proper speaker placement.

The speakers are front ported, so you could probably wall mount them, gaining placement options to boot.
