If i were in your position here are the things I would buy, I am going to go over budget, but I am going to include everything that (i think) you would need, in terms of clothes that would fit into a jansport:
2 pairs of Exofficio underwear, wait to buy them on sale for $15 or less, preferably 12. If you could spend more, buy merino wool instead.
A good pair of shorts. Something you can wear everyday, waterproof, breathable. I'd recommend these [Patagonia] (http://www.rei.com/product/811170/patagonia-baggies-long-shorts-mens) shorts.
This hat. Good to keep the sun off your skin and sweat off your head.
A good pair of sandals. Chaco is a great brand and they will last you a long time.
Good pair of trail shoes. NB's Minimus trail line may or may not be what you need, but what I would recommend from what I know. ($100)
2 pairs of merino wool socks. Same reason as to the underwear. You can wear them more than one day at a time, quickly dry, and are antibacterial. Smartwool has great offerings.
2 pairs of merino wool shirts. Icebreaker is great and is a little bit less than smartwool. Get it in a lighter color like their grey.
These pants. They should be able to do everything that you would need them to do quite easily.
A good rain jacket. Something that can pack down easily and you can wear in colder temperatures and warmer ones for when you just need to deal with the rain. This seems like it would do the job great.
You should be able to get all of this stuff into that small jansport bag. Total cost should be around $675, but you could probably find some of the stuff for a little bit less and save some more money.
With your $250 I would get the underwear, socks, hat, shorts, and jacket.
Have fun on your trip!
OK there are a lot of great resources. But if you need to know basic background.

I have always used either Chelsea Leather Food or Lexol Leather Conditioner for my leather goods.
The Chelsea is really popular among soccer players for use on their cleats so it can be found in a reasonable number of sports stores that sell them for around 10 bucks. Make sure you get the clear stuff though.
The Lexol looks like a car care product but it was recommended to me for use on my riding boots and is extensively to keep horse tack from drying out and wearing down. Amazon is selling a liter of the stuff for 12 bucks. Because it is meant to soak in to the leather a bit, it may darken the JCP boots up some, so go with a few even, light coats first rather than just pouring the stuff on.
The Kiwi polish that you can find in drugstores everywhere is plenty good and is pretty cheap at around 3 bucks a tin. I am currently using some Brooks Brothers Shoe Cream which I got as a gift a bit ago and i love the stuff. It is a bit on the 'pricey' side at 9 bucks a jar so it is up to you.
As a last note, I would recommend getting some Saddle Soap for use after youve gone slogging through some less than clean streets and perhaps forgotten to clean your shoes for a bit. It is a great 'once and a while' product to get your shoes clean again and helps to make sure you arent polishing any dirt or grime into the shoe the next time you give them a shine.
I decided to just go with lexol leather conditioner and it's working perfectly. It came highly recommmend in /r/goodyearwelt. Don't use Obernauf's LP unless you want to ruin your boots. Don't use waxes. Oil works well but can be a little harder to work with because of how easily it saturates the leather. If you look around this subreddit you'll see a lot of boots that are drenched when they are oiled. You don't want that. You want a healthy leather.
Get your hair cut on a regular basis. You look like you'd do better with pretty short hair from your photos. Consider styling it.
Photo #1/2: Don't wear t-shirts with designs on them by themselves. Get a nice light jacket to layer over top. Also make sure the color goes with your shirt, and try to work that color scheme throughout your outfit subtly. Your jeans are too loose, I think. Try out a pair of Levis 501 (the original jeans) in the inkiest blue you can get, since they're cheap and look good. You're tall and somewhat skinny they will give you a nice classic "American" look. Remember to wash them inside out to preserve the deep color.
Photo #3: I don't think that shirt isn't really meant to be worn untucked (see the spare buttons sticking out on the bottom). Either tuck it in or get a shirt that is cut more flat on the bottom (can't remember what they're called). The shirt also looks a little baggy to me, maybe I'm wrong. Go to a men's clothing store and have them take your measurements, and remember them. Now buy a fitted shirt in those exact measurements. Try to get a couple white shirts, 1 or 2 blue shirts, maybe a black one, and the basic patterns (gingham, pencil-striped, etc.) Play it safe at first, then get a little more adventurous once you're stocked with the basics. Also don't wear a red shirt under these. In fact you might want to get some white v-necks so you can undo the top 2 buttons and show off your chest a little, while keeping sweat under control.
Photo #4/#5: leave only the first 2 undone :) 2 looks dashing, 3 looks sloppy (IMO)
Photo #6: Yeah those sweaters suck. The colors are not doing anything for you. Try finding a nice gray sweater that fits you well to start out with.
Photo #7: The polo fits too loosely. The collar should not be so "wobbly". And again, no need for a visible, or at least color-clashing, undershirt.
Hope the feedback helps. Disclaimer: I am by no means a fashion guru.
Get these two books. I like them very much:

Men's Style: The Thinking Man's Guide to Dress
The first is more of an easy pictorial overview. The second goes into more depth on the finer details, with a nice background to men's style.
A lot of people recommend the regular Weekenders but they tick really loudly. They look great and are worth their price but the tick bothers me.
The best watches I've found for under $100 are:
Seiko 5 in your preferred color
Casio MDV Diver
Timex Weekender Chrono (Doesn't tick loudly)
If you choose one of these it's really easy to switch out the strap with one of these (spring bar tool)
I own all three of these watches and they are great. You can also check out different straps on Amazon or sites like cheapestnatostraps.
and a cheap plug for /r/Watches
hey! 1st of all, I would suggest giving it a look at this guy!. He regularly posts here and I think in /r/frugalmalefashion. Great tips and looks!
I have had very good luck for all my outfits buying the Timex Chronograph which I wear almost every day and also this watch from So&Co which I saw previously recommended and I really liked. But that is just my style.
However, what really has changed my game has been straps. Just a couple of watches and a diverse set of straps and you are pretty much set! I cannot believe how easy it is to adapt my watch to any circumstance! Just mix and match! I remember I started with this basic set and just worked my way up from there.
Good luck!
I do have other shoes as options, but sneakers usually look too puffy on my for me to be comfortable with them. Because of that, I'm trying to move away from normal sneakers.
I don't know why I tucked in my shirt in hindsight, lol I will stay away from tucked from now on. I did like the chinos, but you're right, the fit is definitely off. I'll check out Uniqlo and try my luck there tomorrow.
As far as accessories go, I ordered this watch yesterday.
The link just led to their site with all the watches side by side.
I've got this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Skagen-809XLTTM-Carbon-Fiber-Titanium/dp/B001WAKR3C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1342409942&sr=8-2&keywords=skagen
and this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Skagen-233LTMN-Titanium-Black-Watch/dp/B0000C9ZBX/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342409942&sr=8-1&keywords=skagen
Love them both like crazy. The black and blue one's watch face is a bit on the smaller side through.
Either way, you're an awesome SO for trying to get this something I'm sure he'll love! Good luck!
College is casual. You'll be wearing a t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers 95% of the time.
Get some dark, non-distressed, well-fitting jeans. Not baggy, but not ridiculous tight. No rips, tears, or holes - this way you can wear them when you're kickin' it during the day, or when you're hitting the clubs at night.
Next, get some socks and sneakers/casual shoes. There are literally hundreds of options, it's really up to YOUR personal taste. Just off the top of my head: Converse All-Stars, Converse Jack Purcells, Adidas Sambas, Clarks Desert Boots, etc.
Wear what you like for t-shirts. I always like to have some well-fitting solid color v-necks to keep it classy and simple. Try Target, mall department stores, etc.
Get a nice simple watch. I like Casio Men's MQ24-7E Classic Analog Watch because it's so versatile.
I work in a blue collar job. Generally when I want to look a little nicer I'll throw on a chambray shirt over a white V-neck with some dark or raw denim (a cheap pair, think Gap or Uniqlo). I still wear my steel toes but I prefer a minimalist style boot that, I think, looks a little nicer. Like [this] (https://www.amazon.com/Chippewa-Mens-Steel-20066-Lace-Up/dp/B00413PX3G) or this which are my current pair (Red Wing's customer service is the greatest but thats an unrelated story) Honestly I have zero reason to do it but sometimes you want to elevate from a T-shirt and ripped jeans y'know.
Be careful when using oil on shoes and boots. Most of them will darken the leather. If you plan on repeatedly using the boots in heavy snow or rain oil will help weather proof them. Otherwise there isn't any real reason to. Every couple months give the boots a good rub down with a leather conditioner. It'll help keep the leather from drying out and restore some luster.
I like Lexol; it's cheap, it works and it doesn't darken the leather. A jug this size will last you years. Of course there are plenty of options out there, feel free to do the research. There's a lot to learn. Just keep in mind that products containing oil (especially mink) or wax will darken the leather.
Equally important is to get a shoe brush if you haven't already. With five minutes, a brush and a little elbow grease you can get your boots looking great without having to use any product. You don't want to over condition leather as it can weaken it over time.
Sounds like you're doing it right. This is a shining example used in Details Men's Style Manual. Here's the page regarding colorful socks:
"Wearing brightly colored socks is a look championed by Italians and British men who like to indulge their peacock tendencies a little more than American men do. Don't let that put you off: Stripes, dots, argyles, and checks - or just plain color - can make a bold statement. Done badly, however it can make you look like a chump.
Bear the following in mind: Socks are a transition from the pants to the shoe. Try to keep one color constant or blend the two colors brought together. When in doubt, lean toward the color of the pants.
Think about the shirt and tie you are wearing. If you pick up colors from the shirt and tie, your cocks will blend seamlessly into the same outfit.
Beginner:
Transition from blue, gray, and black by wearing socks in subtle patterns or lighter blues and browns. They'll match the clothes you already have.
Intermediate:
While you might not want to go the whole hog, try red socks with jeans and brown shoes.
Advanced:
Stripes, patterned, and checked socks are for style connoisseurs only. Apply similar rules as the ones for shirts and ties - match colors and balance scale."
For anyone on MFA who doesn't have the Details Men's Style Manual, I highly, highly recommend it. It really helped me develop my basic fashion sense and is a fantastic reference for fit, style, and coordinating outfits. Get it.
First time posting,
Both outfits I wore to school this week. In both I'm actually wearing this watch (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00065FWR0/ref=pd_sbs_241_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=AYK4RF63F9PMT9EH37QP) that /u/homahuey posted about in some thread I saw while lurking. I liked it way too much NOT to get, and I picked up like 5 so I could use em the same way he did, lmao.
I think its also worth noting that before I choose what to wear before I go out, I'm listening to music and whatever particular song I'm listening to usually plays a role in what I end up wearing.
The first outfit was inspired by Telephone Calls off of Cozy Tapes Vol. 1, and the second outfit "Down On My Luck" by Vic Mensa.

I only can add a fantastic book about Style, great manual/guide for begginers, comprehensive yet simple, Illustrated and straight-to-the-point.
Details Men's Style Manual: The Ultimate Guide for Making Your Clothes Work for You
Great book to overcome that overwhelm feeling; however I must insist, you have gems right at the sidebar, for free.
I just nabbed a pair of Oak Street Bootmakers Brown Trench Boots and Natural Cap-Toe Trench Boots for a total of $326, tax included. I'm a little floored at that deal. These will be my first really nice boots, after a pair of Tan Rodeo Chippewa Apaches and a pair of Cherry Red 1460 Doc Martens (I got them for around $10 at Urban Outfitters... I couldn't say no, now they're my rain boots!) I have a couple questions regarding my most recent purchase...
I have really wavy hair too, but with some matte high-hold type stuff an undercut looks great (my current favorite is Matte Seperation). I know you want low upkeep, but once you start doing it regularly, quick blow dry bit of product takes less than 2 minutes.
I resisted using product for a while too, but it's just one of those things like wearing decent shoes, well fitting clothes etc that once you start doing you wonder why it took you so long..
I really really like them =] I got this a few months back and I love it...apparently so do other people as well (I get compliments on it quite often).
It's a plain toe oxford affectionately known as a "buck"
Normally, they come in varying shades of suede; which is a type of leather with a napped (basically where the leather isn't sheared) finish.
Your best bet would be a pair of bass Brocktons, clocking in at under a hundred dollars.

Also, here's a quick guide on suede care :

Hope this helps.
Blucher mocs, wingtips, boots (option 2), chukkas (option 2), penny loafers, and bucks (option 2 & option 3) are all some great options.
If you can, try to introduce him to slimmer pants in a darker wash -- perhaps some 511's or 513's in 'rigid dragon' or 'bastion' respectively? Combined with some new shoes, he'll look great. :)
Layering is really important. I don't know what you already have in your wardrobe but a few warm sweaters, a decent coat would be nice (from Uniqlo, Jcrew/JCrew Factory, Gap...). A good pair of boots and socks are also a must. Not too familiar with Chicago but you might also want long underwear. Finally, you'll want to grab gloves, a beanie and a scarf.
Check out the Chippewa GQs. I have the LL Bean version and they're great boots.
My style leans a little more workwear, so this may not be entirely what you're looking for. But, I'm losing weight and all about cheap clothes right now. Sign up for STP's mailing list so you get their (frequent) coupons. They sell a lot of Carhartt stuff -- the straight fit pants, especially in canvas or twill, work pretty well with boots and casual button downs. Tons of other stuff that would probably work is available there as well. I
Dude - While I was wearing that outfit I walked into a DSW and thought, "man, I need some nicer boots to go with this." So I picked up these. They were ~$40 and I'll probably get $40 of use out of them, but I think I'll spring for these when I'm ready to spend a little more. Maybe next fall? I'm really like the lighter colors on both of those pairs, but I'm digging the suede on the ones I got.
If I blurred out my face, how would people tell me all the celebrities I apparently look like?
Looking for feedback to compare the LL Bean katahdin plain toe with the Red Wing Beckmon.
I have a pair of Iron rangers and a pair of the LL Bean katahdin cap toe boots so I'm familiar with each. Basically what I'm looking for is a both that can take some snow, slush, rain and still be dressed up enough to wear in a more business casual environment.
I actually prefer the fit of the katahdins to the red wings but am concerned that they will be too casual for my needs.
Other boot recommendations are also welcome.
Thanks.
Of course you can go cheap, if you embrace it. Get a Casio F91W-1 or a MQ24-7E and wear the shit out of it.
But if you spend $100 you can get a really awesome watch. Orient Mako, SEIKO 5...etc.
Dedicated devices for clothes such as this that provide the steam more directly than your shower. I use mine in conjunction with the iron sometimes, but will even just hold the iron up vertically near the garment and have it produce steam.
It's definitely not as perfect as real ironing, but I've enjoyed doing it for a while, and it really doesn't take long at all. (BTW, the one I linked was just the first on Amazon, I have no idea if it is a good one or not. I bought my black and decker one a few years back)
I just bought my very first pair of Timberland Original Yellow boots. I want to protect them while keeping the same soft and matte texture/look of the boots. My plan is to put mink oil or Obenauf's Heavy Duty Beeswax on the boots and brush them with a soft brush to make it soft and matte.
The guy in this video used mink oil and brushed them off using a soft brush to restore the original look and feel of the boots.
I know mink oil and beeswax will darken the leather. I don't mind that at all. How to protect my first pair of Timberland?
Personally I like a little more contrast but these are pretty acceptable:
http://www.amazon.com/Skagen-Mens-233XLTMB-Titanium-Watch/dp/B0007X9F7O
They make a blue face as well:

Does it snow/rain a lot in your area or is it just cold?
MFA has its own boot guide, look here
Popular boots on MFA are: RW IR, RW Beckman, My current winter boot is the RW 875, Thorogood Moc, Thorogood Plain, Chippewa GQ, Bean Boots.
All of these boots can be found in your price range through sales and coupon codes. All would be good for light snow except for the first and the Chippewa GQ. Bean boots are the best for heavy snow.
Along the same vein, I have found that wicking underwear is the best thing for dealing with the heat. Airism sells some boxer briefs and these from amazon are also really great
I'm looking for a nice pair of boots for winter/fall. I've had my eye on the Red Wing Beckman in either cigar or I'm leaning towards black cherry featherstone. Any opinions on one color or the other? The other thing I'm wondering about is how well these boots would hold up in ice and slush (and snow, of course). I don't need something super warm but I want something with a bit of traction so I'm not slipping on ice like I imagine you would with Iron Rangers. I would really appreciate it if anyone could chime in.
I love cheap watches with nice looking bands. My main watches are this "Sinobi" low profile watch with a black band from Lakehouse Leathers and this Timex Expedition Chronograph. Both are cheap and I love them.
I'm not really an old hand at this myself. Hardly even touched a pair of jeans until a couple years ago. Not a detriment in and of itself but when you replace them with zip off pants or the same ugly cords... I just laugh when I see pictures of myself. I believe I saw your post and you said it was your starting point? Not bad for a starting point. You're got a leg up on most people.
What really did it for me was things like this subreddit though I hadn't found this at the time. That spurred me to buy this book which then led to me buying my suit in China and some other clothes while I was there and I have been hooked ever since. It's a refreshing change to start dressing well!
I just got a pair of Johnston & Murphy dark brown oxfords and they are made out of sheepskin leather. Can I use my usual boot leather conditioner/protector (listed here) on these, combined with a damp rag wipe when necessary?
I was reading around and the only info I could find was on this site stating "To protect your sheepskin from cracking or drying out, a leather conditioner specifically for sheepskin is essential." Is this true? I would rather not have to go back to the store and buy their shoe cream if I don't have to. Or if anyone knows of an alternative on Amazon that would be cool.
Thanks!!!
No it's not a particularly great brand and the majority of the watches you see marked down on amazon are permanently marked down - the original price is super inflated to try and trick you into thinking you're getting a good deal.
Check out r/watches to see some options in that price range.
Here's some that you might like: Seiko, Timex, Casio.
(asking lots of questions today, sorry!) Does anyone know a cheaper version of the Redwing classic chukka http://www.amazon.com/Red-Wing-Heritage-Work-Chukka/dp/B0032UYMEU . I know they look a lot like CDB but I really dig the flat sole on them as apposed to the heel on CDB's and was wondering if there was a cheaper alternative like them. Thanks!
A week has gone by (almost) and per this thread I bought both:
Ex Officio Give and Go
calvin kline micro trunk
Ex Officio is awesome. I like the overall feel and how it wears.
The Calvin klines are okay, a little too short on my rugby thighs so they ride up. I do like their Cock Pouch though, real comfy.
Something like the Chevalier Cap-Toe could be up your alley, though the ordering process is a bit annoying. L.L.Bean's Katahdin is another, more rugged option.
Some people here like Timberland Earthkeepers, but I think they're pretty tacky too.
More into the mid-range, you have offerings like the Red Wing Beckman and AE Dalton.
This is what I have . I'm hardly a fashion genius but I think it looks good and is pretty cheap/simple.
Here's a few to get you started:
http://www.amazon.com/Mondaine-A660-30314-16SBB-Quartz-Classic-Leather/dp/B000ODISL6/ref=sr_1_16?s=watches&ie=UTF8&qid=1334849885&sr=1-16
http://www.amazon.com/BRAUN-Gents-Wristwatch-Classic-Simple/dp/B005FHM7AO/ref=sr_1_39?s=watches&ie=UTF8&qid=1334849930&sr=1-39
http://www.amazon.com/Skagen-Denmark-Watch-Chrome-858XLSLC/dp/B003ZUMB5E
All of them are probably comparable quality to the UW ones posted. Personally, if I wanted to spend more than $150 on a watch in that style, I'd save up a little and try to get one of these. They are probably considered more "investment quality" with mechanical ETA movements and German assembly. Hope that helps.
Take a look at the Timex Expedition!
Other than that, you really can't go wrong with any Timex or Seiko. Fossil is a fashion brand, I'm pretty sure they just use the cheapest movements they can find and concentrate on the watch's appearance. If you like the look of them though, then go for it :D
Worth noting: Red Wing also makes non-heritage chukkas.
I believe both are an improvement over the leather quality and build construction of CDBs. Whether it's approximately $120->$200 worth of improvement is really up to you.
Shirts: Size, Medium
Jacket
Pants: Size, 32/30
Shoes: Size 10.5
Sunglasses
Watch
This was my list that I gave to Family/Friends. It's basically my first attempt at dressing nice, so any criticism/suggestions would be great. It was basically completely based on this, besides the jacket, watch, and sunglasses.
Holy sweet baby jesus this is the best looking watch I've ever seen.
I really like this super-thin Skagen watch, as well as this Bulova, though the strap is black, not brown.
EDIT: I guess links with prices and info might be useful -

They're often recommended on MFA and FMF. I just a bought a pair and they are a tad long on me but geez do they feel great.
What kind of accessories are you looking for exactly? Guys, luckily, don't have much in the way of jewelry.
For a watch, you could easily get a Gshock or a Casio Duro within your price range.
Or, if you want more than one accessory, Royal + Kirkland Trail Socks are within your budget.
Or perhaps a scarf? Gloves?
I bought the Timex Easy Reader which looks like THIS on my arm, and I have skinny wrists. 37.5 mm face if I understand Amazon correctly, so there might be some even smaller. But I think this looks nice, not stupid big and not too small either.
Those are Red Wing Chukkas.
In the future please put quick questions like this in the daily Simple Questions Thread. :)
I would highly recommend these Redwings.
They normally sell for around $250 but I've seen them cheaper on ebay etc. They're by far the most comfortable boots I own.
Not OP but I bought this for my Apaches based on recommendations here, works great:
https://www.amazon.com/Obenaufs-LP-Boot-Preservative-Preserves/dp/B003SKCARK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1509973628&sr=8-3&keywords=obenaufs%2Bheavy%2Bduty%2Blp&th=1
I looked around but I couldn't one with a white dial color.
This is the closest I could find. http://www.amazon.com/Skagen-858XLSLC-Denmark-Super-Chrome/dp/B003ZUMB5E/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1375239150&sr=8-12&keywords=skagen
If anyone could find one with a white dial that would be awesome.
Buying Bushacres as my first pair of boots. Was thinking about adding in something else to cover shipping.
Thoughts on these boots? Other recommendations are welcome!
If they are somewhat slim that would be preferable, as I'm rather skinny and have small-ish (9 US Vans) feet.
The burnishing (discoloration on the toe) is off-putting imo. Never been a fan of it. Also, broguing on a plain-toe feels... strange. If you're looking at Clarks, just grab the Desert Boots- with a little waterproofing they're perfectly acceptable fall boots.
Alternatively, for something with some more weather-resistance, up your price tier and look at Red Wing's Chukka. For something closer to the price of the Clarks but a better-looking boot, the Chippewa Apaches get good reviews around here.
A watch. One of the few true 'deals' I've seen on Black Friday / Cyber Monday is for Timex watches on Amazon. Last year, I purchased the Expedition Chronograph for <$25. You can also opt for a Timex Weekender or a Seiko like this one.
Definitely check out Chippewa Apache. If you have to walk through snow and slush, get the lugged sole version. If not, then non lugged should do fine.
Amazon even has a 25% off promo for shoes now with code - 25OFFSHOE.
Non Lugged Sole Apache - http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0036VN958/ref=s9_simh_gw_d0_g309_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=mobile-1&pf_rd_r=0WQKWDDS4XG4A1JCFA7H&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=1824974342&pf_rd_i=mobile

Other than these, you can't go wrong with Red Wings Iron Ranger or Beckman. Comes down to personal preference.
Newbie here, I've been in the process of re-inventing my wardrobe and one thing I'm severely lacking is shoe variety. What I have now are some Grey Vans Authentics, some Clark's Beeswax DBs (awaiting arrival), and some black Allen Edmond's Park Avenues.
What I'm looking to get next:
Personally, I'm leaning towards the Arkansas, but I want to be certain. Do I need them? Should I get a darker color, because I'll have Clark's as well? Which boot/color are most versatile?
(Pants selection includes: indigo, dark blue, black and black washed denim, and tan, khaki, grey and navy chinos.)
What looks perfect? The Carhartt? Because they are still readily available.
The beanie you linked looks alright. Don't know much about the brand.
I've had good luck with Lexol and there is a lot of info about it all over the web.
http://www.amazon.com/Lexol-1013-Leather-Conditioner-Liter/dp/B000637TNM
Want to purchase a watch and I've decided on the Timex Easy Reader. I can't decide which strap would be more versatile/work better. For reference, I currently own dark brown suede Sperry Topsiders and plan on purchasing the Eastland Yarmouth Camp Moc.
Dark brown: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003QFZZRO/ref=s9_psimh_gw_p241_d13_i2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1MBQ0KF6W5ZWYW2ZSZY4&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846
Light Brown: http://www.amazon.com/Timex-T20011-Reader-Brown-Leather/dp/B0000TII00/ref=pd_sbs_watch_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=1JHDPS08CJ19078FVBRE
Camp Moc (any advice on fit? I wear size 12 sneaker but probably get 11.5): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001HTABMA/ref=gno_cart_title_0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
For heavier winters (I'm from Illinois), would something like Chippewa Apache Lace-Up boots like these be a good choice?
Madison here. In your price range I would recommend some Chippewa Apache's or GQs - you can find them on warehouse for ~$90 once in a blue moon, your best bet is to CamelCamelCamel these things till they drop to about $110-120ish. Size down at least 1/2.
I like this Skagen I've been told that they're not great quality or will last a long time, but I enjoy mine a lot.
I've had one of these Carhartt beanies for almost 2 years and it's been pretty close to perfect. Very warm and very much a steal
May I humbly suggest some $10 alternatives? (not a huge fan of the font)

edit: Bonus
This one is fantastic for the price: http://www.amazon.com/SteamFast-SF-407-1500-Watt-Fabric-Steamer/dp/B000BQRD0I/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1312943813&sr=1-1
Most 1500 watt steamers range in the 100+ range.
I use both a steamer and iron. The steamer gets out the wrinkles but it doesn't get the crease in the collar of polos that I like (cuz I ain't poppin' that shit)
Check out Skagen watches.
Edit- Like this
Edit 2- NM kerodean already linked to same one. :)
$40 Casio that I love!
I've tried lots of things like what you're looking for and a lot can come down to genetics. I like a low shine, medium hold and matte finish. I've been using TIGI Bed Head for the last few weeks and I like the texture and hold I get from it and it doesn't break the bank
I've found the Tigi Bed Head Matte Seperation Wax works really well for me, siginicantly better than American Crew Fiber.
I personally use this. Much better hold than American Crew and lets you mold very well.
I'm not sure about lightening the color, as most conditioners that you apply to boots will slightly darken the leather, at least temporarily.
If you'd like to give them a bit of protection, you may want to try something like this after cleaning off any dirt with a brush, rag, or whatever. That should help the suppleness of the leather and offer a slight bit of weather protection.
I've had a skagen like this (although mine had a black face, rather than bluish) for 4+ years. I've received a lot of compliments on it.
I recently got this Skagen and I love it. I have a small wrist so I strongly prefer a thin watch. At only 6mm thick, this watch looks really streamlined.
Amazon fluctuates prices like crazy though, so while it's currently $75, it's generally around $64 and has been as low as $52 according to camelcamelcamel.
Thanks! Couple questions:
When you say you wipe off salt stains with vinegar you mean applying standard cooking vinegar to a shoe rag and rubbing around to try to get the salt stain out?
And are these the products you use: Obenauf's Leather Oil during normal times and then apply their heavy duty leather protector for the rough weather?
Yep. I had one (I can't remember the brand, but it looks exactly like this Steamfast on Amazon) and it sucked. It's too top heavy, so any little jostle will almost tip it over, the water container leaked and was designed terribly, and it didn't work nearly as well as I thought it would. I've been told that if you want a legit one, buy an industrial one that they use in clothing retail stores. I have yet to do this. Just go into a nicer store and ask them if/what steamer they use.
Details came out with a men's fasion books, covering every garment in your closet. Had a great section after ever chapter showing three outfits with the same piece. Detail's Men's Style Manual
With your price range, you should look into Chippewas.
However, you're limiting yourself to some great boots at your budget.
you should check out this Casio watch, it's $10 on amazon and very minimalist. I have it and I like it a lot.
Casio Men's MQ24-7E Black Casual Watch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00065FWR0/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_eRs5tb19FH05G
It's exactly what it sounds like. Something like this
https://www.amazon.com/Steamfast-SF-407-Fabric-Steamer/dp/B000BQRD0I/ref=zg_bs_510248_10?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=ZZE2GK97VM0SZRHX1BZW
If brown, wear w/ a white v neck t shirt and slim fit olive chinos. My go-to.
Edit: Add in a brown watch, like a Timex Weekender or something.
I'm a college student. I've got expendable income, and I want to look nice, but I haven't worn a watch since early high school. So, I decided to shop around and see if I'd like to wear a watch again.
I was thinking, oh, you know, I'll spend $80 to $100 and see what I can find.
Until I found this one:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00065FWR0/ref=oss_product
For TEN DOLLARS.
I love it. It's small, light, and cheap. It looks elegant as fuck and it's just so perfect. If it gets stolen or I lose it, I won't give a damn and I'll just order another one.
I recommend either not treating them or maybe giving it a quick layer of Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP.
Might I recommend this one?
It's 39mm though. Close enough yeah?
or this one
This one is 40mm. Not sure when you'd be able to receive it though.
Not OP, but I have some. I recently picked up a Carhartt watch cap, and it's killer for the price. The material is very substantial and the branding is cool. You can't go wrong with them.
Target also has some great beanies for $5 each, so if you have one near you you may want to stop by to check them out.
I used to have a Timex Weekender, which I've commonly seen referred to as the Timex Noisemaker. On the other hand I just bought this Timex and I haven't had any problems with it.
It's funny a lot of the upvoted reviews on amazon are negative in that that watch is of poor quality and stops working after 6 months. I admit it looks great.
I like this watch and thinking of buying it as a dress watch
I decided to go with a boot with a norwegian welt, because then the sole can be replaced. I'll see how well beezewax will keep these waterproof for on my day hikes adventures.
These chippewa's are what i'm going for.
Steel toe casual shoes never look good. The toe box is too big and you just end up looking foolish. Get a pair of nice boots. Since you're in a factory, you probably dont need an insole shank like construction boots.
My 2 recommendations would be
MFA typical recommendations:
Timex Easy Reader:
http://www.amazon.com/Timex-T2N3699J-Classic-Analog-Leather/dp/B003QFZZRO/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1335031828&sr=8-6

Swap out bands to suit.
http://strappedfortime.com/shop/
Simplicity and functionality is king. Personally, I prefer a leather band to a metal band.
I would reserve a digital watch for workouts and sport related activities. Analog faces are much classier.
Casio mdv-106
Comes in only black is the downside. Awesome photography btw!
Just bought a nice timex expedition field watch and was wondering how to wear it? any inspo?
Jeans are never business casual. You should check out Details Men's Style Manual. It will define business casual for you and help you build a classic adult wardrobe.
Why would you buy a Timex for $150? I'd probably go for a Citizen, a Bulova, or a Skagen (which are 1000x better watches at 1/2 the cost) and then spend the remaining on a cool little wallet or one of these badass key fobs.
This $9 Casio watch. I don't own it yet but do you guys have any experience with it or have any fit pics?
I recently purchased a Skagen Men's 858XLSLC off Amazon. I thought it would be too big since my wrists are under 6", but I like it. Here's a picture of me wearing it.
Don't make it too complicated.
Some of the deeper scuffs may not go away completely, but they add character to the boot.
you might be right...
since you have the beckmans in cigar featherstone you can help me out, the cigar featherstone is suposed to be [this one](http://www.amazon.co.uk/Red-Wing-Beckman-09016-Leather/dp/B005PEOUXY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410037186&sr=8-1&keywords=BECKMAN+ROUND+STYLE+NO.+9016] or this one ?
Ah turns out it was an Amazon sale. Looks like they were down to $16 or so. Currently at ~$19 depending on size and color.
Need a belt to match these in taupe suede. http://www.amazon.com/Bass-BROCKTON-Mens-Brockton-Oxford/dp/B002U82Q20
Any tips? More casual look. With white/silver and navyish blue chinos. As you can tell by the shoes price point is pretty low.

Both of my suggestions are cheap, minimalist, and goes well with pretty much anything. IF you must get one of the two you listed, get the circle jerk weekender. The one you linked has a pretty ugly face.
Red Wing Beckman
and Wolverine 1000 mile
are two of the popular choices, any reason you aren't considering them?
For all circlejerk needs use Lexol leather conditioner. 1LTR of lubricating goodness.
From AE;
2x creams = $15.30
2x brushes = $17
2x dauber = $8.50
1x heel and edge dressing = $4.68
Lexol conditioner = $8.50 http://www.amazon.com/Lexol-1013-Leather-Conditioner-Liter/dp/B000637TNM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416599681&sr=8-1&keywords=lexol
Lexol cleaner = $7 http://www.amazon.com/Lexol-430033-Leather-Cleaner/dp/B0002F9YIC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1416599766&sr=8-3&keywords=lexol
$61, and arguably better.
no? it's ugly but why do you idiots care if something's "too feminine"?
Just shut up and buy this
Thanks, there seems to be two version though. Manipulator or separator?
Edit: I'm guessing its this one
Oh you bet it is. It's a timex easy reader. This one to be exact. I'll try rolling up the sleeves the next time I wear this outfit.
Timex Easy Reader.
You really should ask about the requirements before buying anything they vary widely one plant I worked at required 1/4" raised heels for example. That said I have this pair of chippewa, and this pair of thorogood. I perfer the thorogoods both are good boots though.
Oh, one other thing that absolutely everyone should do: buy yourself a clothing steamer. Something similar to http://www.amazon.com/SteamFast-SF-407-1500-Watt-Fabric-Steamer/dp/B000BQRD0I/
Ironing is slow and annoying, but wearing rumpled clothes will kill just about any look imaginable. The secret way out of this dilemma is to pick up a steamer, which is incredibly fast and easy to use, and will make everything look neat and fresh.
Hoping to pick up these Red Wing Beckmans in the Nordstrom sale.
Bought this:
Timex Men's T499059J Expedition Field Chronograph Watch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0083XFHIG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_x601xbHKHD960
And really like the size and look, might go with a lighter brown if I had to redo the order though.
I just came across these listings for some Redwing, and Wolverine 1k's that I'm interested in, even if they aren't the cap-toes.
Edit and these Iron Ranger Heritage
Planning on getting a new pair of boots, something that can handle Michigan weathers and be comfortable enough for walking to class on a regular basis. I was debating between the Lugged Chippewa or the Red Wing Lugged Moc Toe, but I'm open to other suggestions. Trying to keep the price below $175 (I found the Red Wings on sale for $150). Any thoughts?
way late, but is this the tigi bedhead i feel like it's not since you said it was hard to get?
There's a reason Clark's Desert Boots are such a popular shoe. They don't have much competition in that price range. Red Wing makes a workboot like chukka but it's much more expensive.
Something like this?
From another watch thread, not my find
I only wear "hats" in the winter. I wear things like This Carhartt one
For under $250, I'd recommend the Chippewa GQ or the LL Bean Katahdin Engineer boots
I just use lexol. I'm sure MFA will have a million different things they recommend but it works for me.
Not sure if this should be it's own thread but...
Black and white watches, I want one, but not sure which to buy.
4 Choices I've stumbled upon are:
Which of these 4 would you pick? or are there any other good watches in a similar style I'm missing (preferably below £100/$150, student budget)?
Yeah that’s it. I’ve only ever bought it from Amazon.
Ex Officio is awesome. I get major swamp ass in the summer and these things are as good as of a solution as I've found. In addition to fighting swamp ass, they're the most comfortable boxers/boxer briefs I've ever worn. Closest thing I've found to going commando.
http://www.amazon.com/ExOfficio-Give-N-Go-Boxer-Brief-Medium/dp/B001M0MN02/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1457553850&sr=1-1&keywords=exofficio+men%27s+underwear
Depending on your definition of cheap, I'd recommend looking into Skagen. For example:
Also, Swatch does have non-ugly models, but they are of course always very recognizable.
I have very small wrists (maybe even a bit smaller than 2.5 inches wide) so I'm going to give some advice here based solely on my own searching for smaller-sized watches in a market dominated by watches 40mm and up.
I think your advice of 35mm w/ 18mm strap is a good start, but certainly is not set in stone. Unless you get into a vintage watch, I doubt you will find any men's watch that is less than 34mm (I'm thinking of this Skagen that I own.) So making your cutoff 35mm is going to severely limit your choices. Going up by a few mm is not going to really be all that perceptible. I wear this watch that is 36mm and looks just fine. By the way, the size on Amazon says 41.29mm because they are quoting the size with the crown, but when people talk about watch size they are normally referring to the size without the crown. Amazon is maddeningly inconsistent and often flat-out wrong in the measurements that they list for their watches.
Another thing to realize is that there are other factors besides physical size that determine how a watch will look on your wrist. A watch with a large bezel and smaller dial will appear smaller than a watch with the opposite. White dials appear larger than dark dials. If you wore the Skagen I mentioned before and then switched to this Timex, they would probably appear to be around the same size despite a few mm difference in physical size.
As for strap size - aside from vintage watches, I know of only 2 mens watches that are have straps thinner than 18mm: this Timex, and the watches that Brooks Brothers sells at their outlet stores. So while you won't really find anything below 18mm, it's pretty trivial to go up to 20mm, maybe even 22mm. When you get to 24mm I think you will start to notice that the band looks a little thick for your wrist. But at that point, you'd probably have a watch that is over 40mm anyway.
Don't like neff. I would recommend http://www.amazon.com/Carhartt-Acrylic-Watch-Black-Size/dp/B002G9UDYG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416113735&sr=8-1&keywords=carhartt+beanie
Is there a big difference between the Carhartt Acrylic Watch hat and the WIP version?
As in a $12.99 vs. $39.99 difference?
I live in Canada where its reaching freezing temps soon and could use a new black one.
I'd advise against doing this in your own house. Doing this often/long enough will leave a lot of warm moisture & condensate in your bathroom which will cause mold problems.
Steamers are a good alternative.
Well, you could just get this instead. Or both! At that price, it doesn't seem unreasonable. Nice choice on the boots, by the way.
I think a faded undercut would suit your semi chiseled face. I have similar faceshape and I, in my opinin rock that style like no other style that I've tried.
When it comes to product I have tried alot of diffrent but the best I've tried is the bed head matte separation. Just blowdry your hair in the direction you want it and brush it in the opposite direction at the same time. When the hair is dry apply the wax and style it the way you like it and finish off with some hairspray.
By the way mirin the hell out of your skin man! Me myself struggle with acne alot and your skin just seem so smoth, no homo:)
These Justin boots are what I purchased mainly because they'll make it through a metal detector. And although I can't recall the name the little frill on the bottom of the laces is removable.
http://www.amazon.com/Justin-Original-Work-Boots-Jmax/dp/B00H4TA5N2
If you don't need to worry about metal detectors I'd go Chippewa all day.
http://www.amazon.com/Chippewa-Six-Inch-Chocolate-Apache-Lace-Up/dp/B00413PX3G
it comes in tan as well. there is another variety with other colours and leather types but they are more expensive
Ah. I live in Canada also and I recently purchased these through Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Chippewa-20065-Handcrafted-Lace-Up-Chocolate/dp/B0036VN8M2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1418489691&sr=8-1&keywords=chippewa+boots.
They're a good sturdy boot that will protect your feet from getting wet, but the sole isn't the best for when things get slippery. They'll hold up, but you might slip here and there.
There is also this model, but I'm not sure if that is too "hikey" looking for you. http://www.amazon.com/Chippewa-Mens-20080-Chocolate-Apache/dp/B004TK2UG4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1418489691&sr=8-3&keywords=chippewa+boots
