So happy Karen did Fatty Arbuckle! I read a fantastic book on the case called Room 1219. I pass by the St. Francis at least once a month or so and always look up at the 12th floor and think of Virginia and Roscoe! Also, agreed with the ladies re: Buster Keaton. Would do. Comedy genius. The book I linked to above has some really funny stories of pranks and hijinks Keaton & Arbuckle got up to off set.

(Nonfiction) Irrefutable Evidence by Michael Kurland. This has a lot of crime stories, focussing on forensic science. I loved it and it got me started as a murderino.

There's a fantastic book about this woman and her models with photographs and schematics showing off all the little details! I wish I could see them in person. They're an incredible piece of crime investigation history.

"Killers of the Flower Moon" by David Grann. Without revealing much, it's about crimes committed on a Native American reservation, but the second title of the book, "The Osage Murders and The Birth of the FBI" should help entice readers.

I'd highly recommend Death of Innocence. It's a brutal story that happened in a small Vermont town. It shook the state in the mid-80s.

Not much here so I'll post my "hometown murder". Not my hometown but near where I live now and where I have hiked a lot.

Claudia Brenner and her partner, Rebecca Wright, were hiking part of the Appalachian Trail in southern Pennsylvania in 1988. Claudia has written a book that I read some years ago. https://www.amazon.com/Eight-Bullets-Surviving-Anti-Gay-Violence/dp/1563410559

The two women were staying at one of the overnight shelter areas when they first encountered Stephen Roy Carr. Rebecca was naked at the time as they had been alone at the shelter. Of course, they hurriedly packed up their gear and headed south on the AT. As they left, he reportedly said, "See you later."

Indeed, they did see him later. When they 'bumped' into him again, he was carrying a rifle. I'm sure they were appropriately creeped out because they took a side trail called 'Rocky Knob Trail' probably hoping to lose him. They set up camp beside a pretty little stream and settled in. After dinner, the women began having sex. (I don't know what the campsite was like then but now it's pretty overgrown and not easily accessed from the trail.)

That's when Carr, who was hiding in the brush on the other side of the stream, opened fire. Eight bullets (the name of Claudia's book) were fired, Claudia taking 5 and Rebecca 2 (the 8th bullet missed). The final bullet hit Rebecca's liver, shattering it, and killing her.

Claudia was hit in the arm, face, head and neck. She didn't know where the shooter was so she waited until dark before moving. Then, she crawled and stumbled for 3 miles along a dirt and gravel mountain road and then a paved road in the darkness.

Fortunately, a car came along - this is not a heavily travelled area so believe me she was very lucky anyone happened upon her.

Here's the nuttiest part: Carr left a crapload of evidence so the state police were able to start hunting for him immediately. He hid out in a Mennonite community where they didn't watch TV so they didn't know he was wanted until one member of the community secreted saw a TV news broadcast with Carr's picture, saw that he was wanted for murder and ratted him out. He tried to get away by floating down a creek in a barrel!

He was sent to prison for life without parole.

My hometown murder happened in June 1993. 20 year-old Jason Eric Massey was crushing on a 14 year old girl named Christina Benjamin. He killed her and her 13 year old step brother Brian King. This crime was featured on Forensic Files and is one of the few episodes rated “TV-MA!”

Jason was severely neglected and abused as a child. His alcoholic and drug addicted mother locked him in a room for days at a time and would toss in bologna and water. He lived among his own fecal matter and filth.

In Telico, TX (just outside of my hometown of Ennis) the naked body of Christina was found badly mutilated. Her head and hands have never been found and her nipples were CUT-the-Fuck-OFF! She had also been dis-emboweled!!! A journal was later found wherein he wrote about fantasies of wanting to drill a hole in her forehead and literally fuck her brains out!

But that’s not all!

Her step-brother (the one I mentioned earlier) was shot in the head and thrown over a small bridge nearby!

So Jason Eric Massey was linked to the crime not only by neighbors who saw the kids get into his car, but also by carpet fibers found on Brians shoes! The fibers were from Jason’s car!

After the murders, police also found an ice chest with animal heads and note books inside. The notebooks were titled “Slayer of Death” or some crazy shit like that. He wrote about his urges to kill and his obsession with Ted Bundy and Charles Manson. He also expressed strong desires to become a famous serial killer!!!

He had a list somewhere in his house that named other girls he planned to kill! I knew several of those girls!

Jason was sentenced to death and was executed in 2001.
