honestly it depends on whether or not you want to put your phone in a protective case. I have mine in the Seidio case (which is amazing BTW) but like most other otterbox style cases that use the rubber sleeve which wraps around the front edge to protect the screen, the screen protectors that go all the way to the edge of the screen will tend to contact the rubber edge of the protective sleeve resulting in the screen protector getting lifted off the front surface of the phone.

I've had this happen with both the skinomi and the realook protectors. After reading that several others were having this problem with various cases, I read that several guys had success with this protector by Rearth and I can happily say it works great as it's just a hair narrower on the screen.

It also feels nice too. It's nice and smooth unlike the rubbery skinomi.

Mediabridge has been working for me for at least a year now. A slight issue is the size since it would hit my diztronic case (it's smaller than the generic amazon one), but the plastic is soft and you can easily shave a little of it away with a knife or something. I removed the equivalent of a half grain of rice, so not a lot. I think it's definitely worth it because it's a high quality cable. It's thicker and the ends are protected nicely so it should last a long time (the cable I had to replace separated near the head after a year or so, so I needed a sturdier cable)

I have a Moga Bluetooth controller, a "U-Grip" car dock, a dbrand black leather backing, and the wireless dock. I also got an LG Bluetooth adapter to play wireless music in my apartment.

I think all those things were definitely worth every penny... I feel like I've maximized the potential of my phone. The phone is a good chunk of money, so I want to use it to its potential.

I've been experimenting with this battery: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BTV1SCB

It's <2mm taller than the original battery. This battery is ~6mm less wide. With the battery protection board, it's about 4mm too tall (covers where the battery's ribbon cable is). I've been playing around with putting the protection board on its side, and adding wires to the protection board. It's still a super tight fit along portrait axis of the phone...but it still closes with the battery being just a little taller, and all the backplate contacts still make a connection.

To be super honest...a Nexus 6 is only $120ish nowadays...so I'm really thinking about abandoning this project altogether and getting a Nexus 6.

OK. So you can get the button switches online pretty cheaply (example):
http://www.amazon.com/Original-Button-Switch-Replacement-LG/dp/B00CMJQ7KO

You take the back cover off. Unscrew the thin black plastic cover from the motherboard and then change the switches. I've done this with my power button and it's working perfectly now.

Buy a powergen charger, I own one and its amazing. USB does NOT charge the same AC. If you see USB under battery settings you're drawing a much more limited amount of power then versus AC (plugging in a PC vs plugging in a wall). The powergen outputs much more then needed for the nexus 4, although the nexus 4 will only draw as much as needed, and make sure to get a good USB cable this one: Check this out on AMZN:

Mediabridge Hi-Speed USB 2.0 - (6 Feet) - A-Male to Micro-B Cable
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004GF8TIK/ref=cm_sw_r_an_am_ap_am_us?ie=UTF8

Not all micro USB cables are made the same, most work well, but if you buy a 99¢ one, you're going to get what you paid for (some don't even allow AC charging).

Btw, don't worry about any power problems with high mAh chargers/AMP ones. If the nexus 4 suddenly took more power then needed, it would probably explode and that would be some pretty horrible design.

Edit: another good thing about this charger is that its universal and it will split the power amount! So if you plug in two devices it will simultaneously charge them both at AC power.

edit: yes the powergen charger is considered AC charging by the nexus 4 either single or with two devices (I use mine with either the cable that came with the nexus 4 or the one I linked to)

Perfect. I have this case and it has been fantastic. It's only $5 at Amazon, too.

I had exactly this problem with my stock Nexus 4 a few days after I got it. I had bought two of them (one for me and one for my wife). Mine would randomly turn off every few days when left overnight and I would have to hold down the power button 10 seconds or so to get it to turn back on. It did this both on and off the charger. Since we had two of them there were a few other differences that I would not have noticed if I had only had one. For example, the first time we ever turned them on mine took 3-4 times as long to boot up. I did a factory reset and it continued to randomly shut off occasionally. I'm fairly sure this is a hardware problem (since my wife's phone is identical, seriously our IMEI codes vary by 1, and neither of us had installed too much yet). Since I was still in the 15-day window for exchanges I decided to return it.

The whole process was super easy and painless. I called Google Play support and it took basically 5 min. They said that since I had already tried a factory reset and it was still happening that they would immediately replace it. They mail you out a new one (with a hold on your credit card for the new device). Once you get the new one you swap our your SIM card and mail the old one back using a pre-paid label from Google. When they get the old one they remove the hold on your credit card.

I'm very glad that I did this. The new phone hasn't had any problems so far and hasn't turned off randomly yet. It's hard to tell but it also seems somewhat faster booting up. I highly recommend you RMA it. It may seem like a minor (although annoying) problem but if it is a hardware problem (which I think it is) then it may cause more problems further down the road. Imagine if you DON'T exchange it now and in 6 months it starts having more serious problems?

It sucks about the screen protector. Luckily for me I had a [Skinomi](http://www.amazon.com/Skinomi-TechSkin-Protector-Lifetime-Warranty/dp/B009W6C3YO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1369153104&sr=8-1&keywords=nexus+4+Skinomi] wet application one (which I highly recommend by the way) which can be easily removed and re-applied.

As others have suggested, if it's a slightly older model it is possible that the built-in bluetooth will only support phone calls and not media. If that is the case, you will need to seek another route.

Just my two cents, if your car has an auxiliary audio in jack (looks like a headphone jack), then you can use a bluetooth adapter to wirelessly stream audio rather than plugging in every time. I use this model in my car and it works beautifully.

u/iethree · 3 pointsr/nexus4

My wife and I both have poetic borderline cases for our nexus 4s. They are cheap, provide good protection, make the phone easier to hold, and show off the pretty back.

Anker makes some of the best stuff, very solid and reliable. I like this one (also have bigger ones): http://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Compact-Portable-Lipstick-Sized-Technology-Smartphones/dp/B005NF5NTK

Thanks for this thread I've been going back and forth all night about to pull the trigger. The $50 early supporter deal is the only thing keeping me interested if the last 18 spots fill I'll pass. This kickstarter and whole deal seemed very fishy to me, it seems too good to be true. Who knows maybe they will actually keep their word, but do I really want to put my money with a company that has flaked before? Has anyone had any experience with http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BHSDEDO/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=ianker-20&linkCode=as2&camp=217145&creative=399373&creativeASIN=B00BHSDEDO I've looked into it a bit and it seems not too bad...

There's a replacement if you feel confident taking the phone apart. Can also find them from other sellers and also on eBay. I had to replace mine a while back due to it being unresponsive at times. It was pretty easy.

Ill probably replace my N4 if the new Nexus phones price is in line with the previous Nexus phones and keep this one as a backup.

Here, reviews look pretty good for it

u/emalk4y · 3 pointsr/nexus4

If yours has worn off, only then you need it. Your phone screen should have come looking super glossy and friction-free, and should have been an absolute joy to use. Most people's stays for 6 months or more (I have a friend who bought his on launch day and his is still intact) but a few come off within weeks. You can use Fusso (Amazon Link) to re-apply it.

u/GhoMed · 3 pointsr/nexus4

I've been using the Rearth Screen Protector for a couple of weeks now. It has the oleophobic coating. This one from Amazon comes with two front protectors and one back protector. So, when the one I have now on the front loses its coating, I can replace it with the second one.

The screen protector is quite nice at reducing visible finger oil on the screen, but I do have to swipe differently on the keyboard because of the screen protector. Overall, though I am satisfied with the purchase.

u/ThinkBEFOREUPost · 3 pointsr/nexus4

I do not know, but you can purchase this and install it fairly easily if you worried. It might help depending upon the accuracy of the OEM:

Love the Qi charger, totally worth it IMO. However, I'll go against the crowd on cheap ones... the one I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/UPGRADED-Wireless-Charging-Blackberry-Qi-Enabled/dp/B00C40OG22 and the damn thing phantom touches almost every time I put it on the charger. At least it is only initially, so I have to watch it for a few seconds to see where it goes, if it goes anywhere.

None of my N4 orbs have that issue.

u/withoutapaddle · 1 pointr/nexus4

I use this one: http://amzn.com/B00C40OG22

It's kind of a middle ground between super cheap crap and official chargers. Works well, and looks stylish.

u/unerds · 1 pointr/nexus4

can't comment on that one in particular, but i use a poetic slimbook it's probably a bit bulkier by default.

but it allows me to carry my license, debit and visa with me, the latch holds it just fine... though the cards do make it thicker, it's allowed me to combine my wallet and phone...

i end up keeping a secondary wallet in my car with whatever other random cards (library, costco, healthcare, etc.)

regardless of all that, i like it.

u/Taliesintroll · 1 pointr/nexus4

I've got four cases. My first overprotective bulky plastic one, an armor hybrid case with a stand, and a frieq waterproof case.

But my favorite case is this one

u/indrora · 2 pointsr/nexus4

I'd totally learn how to remove the back so you can get a fresh back glass. Amazon sells them relatively cheaply.

u/iamnerd · 1 pointr/nexus4

I'm using a Skinomi protector right now. I used them on my previous phones as well. I haven't noticed that they distort the image quality. Doesn't feel as nice as the bare glass but it's not bad.

Similar to a Zagg protector but without the orange peel texture.

$8.95 on Amazon.com for the front only protector and $15.95 for the full protector.

u/DavidPx · 3 pointsr/nexus4

Yep, my screen gets dirty much faster now and feels more grippy. Has anyone here ever tried a product like this?

u/Mysterious_X · 2 pointsr/nexus4

I would look into a vent mount for your phone. This is the one I have that works very well, but there are plenty of others.

u/TheBullshitPatrol · 5 pointsr/nexus4

Why do you need a branded one? I nabbed this when it was on sale for $13 a week or so back. It's amazing. I usually hate suction-ey adhesive shit, because it never works, but the use of both suction and a reusable adhesive simultaneously is genius.

u/CrunchyFrog · 10 pointsr/nexus4

The answer is the Panasonic chargepad. Here it is on Amazon. Ten out of eleven reviews are 5-stars.

u/catmandont · 5 pointsr/nexus4

Check this out on AMZN:

u/SirHugh · 4 pointsr/nexus4

I had a poetic borderline bumper but it came apart after a while.

I should probably mention that I'm in the UK so didn't bother contacting them about a replacement (I read somewhere warranty was only valid in the US).

u/HighSpeedWayne · 1 pointr/nexus4

The one I have is a rectangle. I think they were switching to pushing the round one at the time so I got a deal on it. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005DMBSVA/ref=redir_mdp_mobile

u/Raider1284 · 2 pointsr/nexus4

These all work perfectly...including trickle charging to keep phone charged over night. I know this because I either have or use all these charging pads frequently. Some of these can be found other places than were I linked for way cheaper. I think Verizon sells the lg one for $30

u/Lokani · 3 pointsr/nexus4

Honestly, I would avoid Xtremeguard. They always have a "sale" of 75-90% off, and the stuff isn't great quality (you get what you pay for). They're sloppily cut, not a great material, and annoying as piss to put on.

There's much better out there. Personally, I have only used these and found that they're great quality.

u/Boondoc · 1 pointr/nexus4

the first ones i had were extremeguard whos main selling point was that they were cheap and had front and back protectors. i really disliked how they felt though. very tacky even after a couple of months.

i got this tech armor for the same price that i paid for the first ones but front only and except for the outline you almost can't tell there's a screen protector on it. almost.

u/Bene123 · 5 pointsr/nexus4

I had this issue as well. I purchased a ground loop isolator, and that fixed the problem right up.

I believe This is the one I bought.

You don't need to tear apart your car, just plug the 3.5mm male end into your auxiliary, and plug another male-male aux cable from your phone to the female end.
