I hope orthotropic treatment will just be more popular in the future.

I read this book:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/1503604136/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_awdo_t1_T3tHDb396JN6R

And I have a 4 year old so we are going to go see a dentist that practices orthotropic when heā€™s around 6.

I got a copy of the book & Iā€™ve already shared it with some other of my mom friends. I feel like spreading the information is a start.

Yep, sorry thatā€™s the one. Iā€™ve tried every damn face pillow and I find that when you are asleep and unable to think about what youā€™re doing, this is the only one which keeps you off your cheeks completely whilst being comfortable. It took me a bit of getting used to but now I love it. When you roll on your side your head is nicely cradled but the lower cut away means nothing touches your skin. I always wake up in the right place and with my nightcream still on!

I'm still on the hunt for something perfect. I used to use this weird pink bang tape but they stopped making it.

So far this works ok if I don't moisturize too close to bed. My major thumbs down is it is pretty expensive and there is SO much packaging.

Otherwise, I have tried micropore tape (what the x's above are made of, I thought) and another fabric one, but both left glue residue on my face. Trying to find a middle ground with a roll of tape that has the right stickiness that doesn't leave residue but just haven't found it yet. Maybe the pharmacist could recommend one? I've been thinking of going in and asking the same at my local CVS.

Looks like you have uneven muscles. Try to touch both sides if it's the muscle caused it. If it is, chew gum on the weaker side, but also chew in the stronger side, but less.

I recommend buying mastic gum

https://www.amazon.com/Greece-Chios-Mastic-Mastiha-Mastixa/dp/B008RT2UVI
It does not taste good but you can get used to it

Also, just chew over 30 minutes. Chew 20 times so you can't get TMJ, then switch on the other side but chew less on the stronger side.

Good posture, mewing and most importantly chew, chew, HARD. This will get you somewhere trust me :D.

I don't think mastic is really available that widely, I bought mine from here:

It sits a couple of millimeters behind the upper front teeth, not touching them! So at the very beginning of the ridges. Itā€™s important not to be pushing on the front teeth, as it could possibly lead to them protruding.

I would strongly recommend this Chios Mastic Gum for chewing - https://www.amazon.com/Greece-Chios-Mastic-Mastiha-Mastixa/dp/B008RT2UVI

I use medical adhesive tape (or whatever this is called in english), this one https://www.amazon.de/3M-Micropore-Medizinisches-Klebeband-Rollen/dp/B01KYK2666/. It is enough to use a small bit to tape the middle parts of your lips, it does not get loose.
As for the breathing part: I also used the swallow-way but I could always breathe when mewing (way better in fact), so I think you cannot say this in general.

Can anyone link me to mastic alternatives? I currently chew FALIM gum very frequently. In the past, I chewed Greek Chios Mastic Tears but the gum would start too hard and cut the inside of my mouth. Thanks!

u/trussywestlakes Ā· 2 pointsr/orthotropics

just amazon, here is the one that I buy. Just 25 g will last me a few weeks, if not a month.

Turkish falim gum. Itā€™s relatively cheap on amazon, but the gum itself is much harder to chew than the regular gum weā€™re used to. It will really develop your jaw musculature if you chew often. This will make the effects of your mewing even more noticeable.

Hereā€™s a link to the one I purchase - Falim Gum

Here you go! Donā€™t worry about the negative review(s), I think those mostly come from people that lack commitment.
