Hi u/ting4ling,
Kara here, OP's wife, (As I said to another redditor, I'm basically the PR person for our biz as my husband tbh isn't the best typist or as patient with giving thoughtful replies).
First off, glad you think they're cool and glad you love books. The awesome thing is that we never ever ever ever would cut a limited edition or rare irreplaceable edition, (couldn't afford one anyway).
As you know, e-books abound! We buy real, paper books which makes the publisher print a new book to replace it to sell to a reader. It would be a tragedy if print went out. It's sad to see bookstores closing. I've provided here a handy-dandy list of ways to get access to J.K. Rowling's awesome work, and it would be mostly the same access for most of the books we cut for our business:

The above listings are just on Amazon, of course there's:

Let's all go forth and buy real books for whatever reason, seriously, we need to support print.

I recommend either Sennheiser HD 380 Pro or Sennheiser HD 280 Pro.
I like the 380's over the 280's and I have worn both extensively. On the 280's the main drawback is the tightness of band on the ears; after extended use is can hurt taking them off. The tightness does come with some benefit though; it almost creates a vacuum environment that block outsides sound from leaking in... almost noise cancelling. The 380's have a lighter grip and a lighter construction overall. They do not weigh down on my head as much nor grip as strong as the 280's. Of course, that means sound from the outside does leak in a bit, especially at low volumes, but little can be heard once the volume is turned up. I can wear the 380s for hours, and feel so comfortable I have barely feel them on.
You're probably going to need a microphone as well; I like to stick with the Zalman clip on. I attach it directly to the headphone cord and works great!
As a side note, both of these headphones will need to be burned in to really notice the quality. I work with the 380's for music production and music listening as well. They are really versatile headphones.
If you are at all interested in the energy consumption of appliances, you can buy (or maybe your library will loan out) a Kill-A-Watt meter. Pretty cool thing to have, IMO.
On a slightly related tangent, if anyone is interested in an engaging read that does an excellent job of conveying the feeling of modern China, I highly recommend the book China Road, by Rob Gifford.
It conveys a sense of place other than the faceless, monolithic entity so often presented as China in the West.
I much prefer one incorporating scissors, like this from Victorinox. I use scissors 10 times for every one time I need a knife.
Unfortunately the clip is a perfect width for only 2 cards, plus money. I'd like to be able to fit 4, so it's a little overstuffed.
Is your bottle stainless steel on the inside? If you get a steel bottle, soap and hot water is almost always enough, but if you need to get really strong smells out you can use baking soda.
Neither technique involves reaching into the bottle, but if you really do need to scrub your bottle from the inside, why not just buy this for $5, instead of spending $40 on a bottle that doesn't even have insulation to keep your drinks cold?
LOL! It wasn't nearly that much when we got it. That's just what happens when stuff is discontinued. e.g. this trackball input device i had to find for someone last year, it was only $100 then http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Cordless-Optical-Trackman-USB/dp/B00006B9CR/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405707385&sr=8-1&keywords=Logitech+Cordless+Optical+Trackman
Since all my devices (phones & tablets) are protected by a bulky otterbox, this business card holder works just fine for the kids and me.

If requires you learn some radio and electronic basics. You can get all the questions online, so it's really not that cryptic. If you're not all that familiar with those topics, I would recommend getting the license manual, which explains all the concepts.
Interestingly, this site has been run for a good long time by Cliff Stoll, author of the Cuckoo's Egg. If you're a geek, YSK at least who this guy is. He's not a pioneer or anything, but he did do a solid bit of detective work, and ended up with a decent story out of it. If you're interested in old school security, computer forensics, or the NSA at the dawn of the internet, you ought to check his book out. A little overly dramatized, but hey, it's a decent read.
Amazon Blurb
>Cliff Stoll was an astronomer turned systems manager at Lawrence Berkeley Lab when a 75-cent accounting error alerted him to the presence of an unauthorized user on his system. The hacker's code name was "Hunter" -- a mystery invader hiding inside a twisting electronic labyrinth, breaking into U.S. computer systems and stealing sensitive military and security information. Stoll began a one-man hunt of his own, spying on the spy -- and plunged into an incredible international probe that finally gained the attention of top U.S. counterintelligence agents. The Cuckoo's Egg is his wild and suspenseful true story -- a year of deception, broken codes, satellites, missile bases, and the ultimate sting operation -- and how one ingenious American trapped a spy ring paid in cash and cocaine, and reporting to the KGB.

EDIT: I don't know the guy or anything, I just liked his book.
Available for purchase here: http://amzn.com/1495337111
I think it's a couple dollars cheaper if you have Amazon Prime.
EDIT: I also have this available as a .PDF if you want to print if off yourself and color: http://www.peterdraws.com/shop/between-the-lines-e-book
Or go the Russian route.

or you could get it for $30 here
This one is so much better:

Link.
You can get an NSF certified water filter for under $20. Among other things, NSF certification ensures that the filtrate and hardware do not contain unsafe levels of lead and that the filter actually removes what it claims it removes (primarily testing for cryptosporidium, giardia cysts, lead, and chlorine).
Bah, there's no "Look Inside" link.
BTW: Just to show Amazon aren't prudes, here's one with a "Look Inside" link that does contain nudes in the sample: http://www.amazon.com/Playboy-Redheads-James-R-Petersen/dp/0811848582/ref=pd_sim_b_2
I bought this one for my wife. It's not automatic but holds my Note 9 and charges it..

I never specified where I wanted it shipped to, that was just an assumption you made. The fact is not everyone lives in the USA, so you need to assume that US shipping doesn't apply to everyone.
As for the actual shipping cost. If I can get this - http://www.amazon.com/Modernist-Cuisine-Art-Science-Cooking/dp/0982761007/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322550804&sr=8-1 shipped to Australia from the USA for ~$20, you really start thinking someone is making a killing off these shipping fees along the way.
