Sounds like burnout. Continuous training can wear on you mentally, emotionally, and physically. Planning breaks can actually help you to be better, reignite your passion for your sport, and make the most out of your training sessions. Some resources to consider:

The best intro book for sport psych is u/Jimafremow's The Champion's Mind.

The best podcast for sport psych right now goes to Cindra Kamphoff, whose High Performance Mindset brings some of the best in the sport psychology world in to talk about mental skills training for sport. As an athlete in a combat sport, the one with Gene Zanetti related to wrestling may be particularly helpful. But there are some gems in there from great consultants in the field like Josh Lifrak, Gloria Balague, Duncan Simpson, and Ken Ravizza as well.

Finding a sport psychologist for yourself can be a great option. The AASP search tool mentioned by u/infinitecoach can be helpful. To find someone good, be sure to ask:

  1. What was/is your training in sport psychology? They should be able to identify how they trained specifically in this discipline. Beware of therapists who happen to be/have been athletes, "confidence coaches", and the like.
  2. What sport psychology organizations are you a member of?. For psychologists, are they a member of the American Psychological Association's Division 47 (Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology)? Are they a member of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology? Do they have the AASP Certified Mental Performance Consultant credential?
  3. Also, beware of practitioners who use the term "Sports" Psychology. The correct term is "Sport Psychology". Sport is already plural. It's a good example of a shibboleth you can use to distinguish who has the correct training and background.

Feel free to reach out if you have other questions.

I found this book a very good all round sport psychology book, it has lots of motivational stories and teaches great skills you can practice the whole way through your recovery! I’ve torn my ACL in my right knee twice it’s a long, hard road back but very worth while!! Good luck :)

Two books that are really good for this kind of stuff:

http://www.amazon.com/The-Mental-Game-Baseball-Performance/dp/1888698543

http://www.amazon.com/Mind-Gym-Athletes-Guide-Excellence/dp/0071395970/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1414212349&sr=1-1&keywords=mind+gym

You can probably google both for PDFs. Mental Game has an entire section on expectations with stories similar to yours. It describes what caused players to fail and what helped others succeed. The book changed my life.

Good luck!
