lol. I'm an adult but I transitioned without telling my parents. I saw them all the time. We never discussed it although it was obvious. I go to dinner with them in a dress, makeup and a D cup and they still say HE to the waiter. Fuuuuuk! My therapist thought it was hilarious that we all ignored the elephant in the room. Eventually, I gave them two books to read.
Trans Forming Families: Real Stories About Transgendered Loved Ones, 2nd Edition
True Selves: Understanding Transsexualism--For Families, Friends, Coworkers, and Helping Professionals
They were more accepting after that although we never did discuss it. They bought me earrings & stuff which was nice. After my mother passed, my father went to visit his sister who is a retired wealthy doctor. When he came back he seemed more accepting. He also gave me a bunch of my mom's stuff he thought I could use. I suspect my dad and Aunt Wealthy Doctor talked about me and she explained things to him. One other thing, her kids all have mansions, yachts and shit. I don't know if I'm going to make rent this month. Boy was I born into the wrong side of the family. Life sucks then ya die. Time for bed. With my luck I'll wake up again.
Literally my parents irl, at least at first. At least they're trying and have gotten better over time. My mom actually read She's Not There of her own volition and really liked it and thought it was helpful, so we're making progress.
This book. It is a pretty good translation and the commentary is very good. Worth checking out.
The book is basically an in-depth analysis on whether or not gender classification matters in society. The author looks at things like gender markers on IDs and gender segregation in public places like schools, bathrooms, and sports.
I got the book from my local library when I was first beginning to question my gender. The title caught my eye and I thought it might be able to help me sort my thoughts and feelings. It absolutely did not. This book focuses more on gender segregation in society and how it affects and hurts trans (and sometimes cis!) people. Still a good read, just be aware it's very scholarly and factual.

It being performative and constructive doesn't necessarily signify any degree of choice by any means. Most (hardcore) constructivists concede that, though we may recognize the ways in which we socially construct concepts, that doesn't at all mean we can change them on a whim; they're not objective values, but neither are they subjective values, they're intersubjective. Which means a constructed social conception is far from implying any sort of "choice".
I reckon you probably know it already, but this book comes very highly recommended in case you want to look more into the concept of constructivism within queer theory/gender studies, and an insight into the performativity of gender.
They don't allow people on the spectrum to fully participate in their organization, openly promote eugenics (they want a prenatal t at to eliminate all autism), and they support people who write shit like this:

Stop supporting them
Galatians 3:28: There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
I don't understand how anyone can use the bible, and specifically eht New Testament, to argue against trans rights. The Bible is just a bunch of ancient writings, written by superstitious humans, but if someone wants to base their beliefs on the beliefs of a random group of Hebrew people thousands of years ago, it won't take much researching to find that that particular society was way less hung up on gender than our current one is. This book is a great place to start.

Not exactly a self help book but it’s good at explaining things
I linked the bit about there being transgender people for as long as there have been people to the wikipedia page for transgender history, and I linked the bit about HRT being like magic to /r/transpassing sorted by top of all time. That second part might have been a poor choice, but I was just thinking about how when I was in denial a big part of it was that I didn't think I would ever really have a chance of passing if I transitioned, and /r/transpassing and /r/transtimelines kind of helped me with that.
I also had a some more links below what's in the screenshot, but I didn't have space on my screen to capture it all. Here's the other things I linked:

Read this Finding Masculinity It helped me understand that everyone experiences transness differently and there is no one overriding narrative.
She also wanted to be able to tell Evelyn (her daughter) "look, they read my book!" if peiple screamed it at her. She does use the term transsexual a lot for herself, which many younger trans people dont, again pointing to it being a generational thing.
She mentioned being inspired to title it Tranny because of Dick Gregory's autobiography, The N Word (i aint typing it yall can click the link)
