After checking aliexpress it seems that I lied about the $20 price. Android ones start at $30, for example: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/High-Quality-CX919-2GB-Quad-Core-Android-4-2-Smart-TV-BOX-Stick-MINI-PC-1080P/32510889591.html https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2016-New-MK809IV-Smart-TV-2GB-8GB-Android-TV-Box-Wireless-HDMI-Dongle-Android-Mini-PC/32640473667.html

These are going to be really shitty, but the point is, they can decode 1080p h264 content just fine, unlike vita/pstv.

Personally, if I had a budget around $40 I'd get an amazon fire tv stick https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Fire-TV-Stick-Streaming-Media-Player/dp/B00GDQ0RMG since it's less likely to be chinese crap, or raspberry pi 3 https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/raspberry-pi-3-model-b/ (if you're into tinkering with your devices)

These will play common h264 content fine (no 10-bit though. this only matters if you watch anime encodes). They won't play HEVC but it will probably be 1-2 more years before HEVC starts getting mainstream.

That's it about HDMI sticks, however:

If you want to spend more money, NVIDIA Shield TV ($200) is the best android-based option: https://www.amazon.com/NVIDIA-SHIELD-Streaming-Player-Android-Gaming/dp/B00U33Q940 - it can hw-decode h264 and hevc and generally is much more powerful device.

If you have unlimited budget, the best option is to build an intel&nvidia-based HTPC and load up plex media player on it (https://www.plex.tv/blog/introducing-the-plex-media-player/). This will play pretty much everything and will give you the best quality video output, which is highly configurable: https://mpv.io/manual/master/#opengl-renderer-options just look at these options.

tl;dr: get amazon fire tv stick

I will recommend you the following:

Use the ones being sold by Cameron Sino, I have 4 of them fully packaged in their nice display boxes (I keep all LiIon/LiPo batteries in special stored circumstances that batteries are kept in), currently they are exactly the same OEM batteries being used in the Vita, I'll try linking you them now:

Assuming you're in your place of dwelling and not on the go, the PSTV. First it has native support for DS3/4 gamepads and supports L2/R2, L3/R3, and vibration for PS 1/2/3/4 games. Second it's 720p as opposed to 544p so your games will look better. You can also whitelist it to enable all games playable assuming they don't require the camera or microphone. There is also a plugin that allows for sixaxis support. All PSTV's have 1gb of internal storage and come with firmware less than 3.60 and you can manually update from there with a usb. You can then either use the offline installer after installing HENkaku for the first time or reinstalling it later as the webkit exploit is only temporary. You can also upgrade to the pre-hacked HENkaku Enso 3.65 but beware that not all custom apps and plugins are supported by it yet.

If you only want it as a handheld then get the Vita 2000 (Slim) as it fixes many of the Vita 1000 (Fat)'s flaws. It has 1gb of internal storage and a 16gb ps vita memory card (the PS TV supports vita memory cards btw) will last you over 50 physical games. It has over an hour of extra battery life and a PACK IN non-proprietary micro-usb charger. It's more ergonomic, slimmer and lighter but just as durable. The only real advantages that the vita fat has are the fact that you can replace the back touch panel, and that it has an OLED screen. The former can be mitigated with a carbon fiber skin and the latter will burn in or burn out eventually.

If you want remote play and custom firmware you will need ps4relink as even though you can sign into psn with firmware and PSN spoofing no PS Vita below 3.67 can be "activated" (i.e. legitimized) due to a change in protocol on Sony's end. One more thing, TheFLOW has successfully hacked OFW 3.67 and is releasing it at then end of this year/early next year anticipating the Vita's end of life. So if you have the patience I'd wait for that option since you can activate your PS Vita.

EDIT: Made revisions to grammar and spelling.

EDIT 2: Made further corrections.

I highly recommend a USB 3.0 microSD card reader if you have USB 3.0 ports (you'll thank me later after you transfer content from your old card lol). I bought this one by Anker:
www.amazon.com/Anker-Portable-Reader-RS-MMC-Micro/dp/B006T9B6R2/
Worth noting that this model can also be used for 3DS hardmods, which is what I originally purchased it for.

Best of luck to you dude!

Hi. I have a N3DSXL running Luma CFW (plug r/3dshacks), and I am looking for something new and more challenging to mod, and the PS Vita seems like the answer (plus it has better games). Would this PS Vita be running 3.60 or lower? I read that all new US Vitas should be running 3.60 or lower but I want to be sure before I drop $140.

Edit: Also, is there any guides like 3ds.guide for installing CFW? Or is HENkaku the only homebrew stuff there is?

They have little Vita Data to MIcro USB adapters on Amazon for $3.00 (https://amzn.com/B007Y3L5RI). Sony sells Vita 1000 data cables? Because I also lost mine and couldnt find a legit Sony replacement anywhere but Amazon and it was listed for like $40.00. I just went and got a knockoff at MicroPlay for $6.99. Where did you see Sony ones for $23.00?

Where the hell are you guys getting your info?

https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Vita-Memory-Card-PCH-Z641J/dp/B00F27JGVA
https://www.vitadevwiki.com/index.php?title=Media#PS_Vita_Memorycards
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61eRjZQ8zLL.jpg

Edit: My mistake. I shouldn't have used the term M2. I was referring to the memory card that Vita's used, which is roughly the same size as M2 save for the cutouts. I only have an 8GB Vita Memory card for my PCH-2000. I just always thought they were the same, being the same size as M2 and all. Now I know the pins are different and found out that no one has been able to directly connect an SD, MicroSD, MagicGate, Pro Duo, or M2 to a Vita using a dev board adapter. Apparently there's encryption or something preventing the other standardized cards from working with the dev board adapter. Regardless, I brought it up because I wanted to do a similar mod to a Vita TV to get a MS Pro Duo adapter connected to the Vita Memory card slot. I did a similar mod to a PSP Go to connect a MS Pro Duo adapter years ago. The pinout and ways they communicate are different, which I now know, but at least the Vita memory cards have all the same pins as M2, just in a different order. Guess I will have to make my own dev board and play around a bit as well.

you could always get one of these, https://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Powered-Splitter-1080P-Model/dp/B004F9LVXC/ref=sr_1_48?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1473632178&sr=1-48&keywords=hdmi+splitter

the splitter is implemented in such a way that it strips out the HDCP, run that into your capture card and you can stream what you want with the vita or PS3.

so really if they get streaming implemented on the vita its just going to come down to how well it works, if its laggy and your doing a demanding game like borderlands 2 then using a PSTV and a capture card would be better then adding more overhead and making the vita stream the image.

i've been playing with the video streaming on my 3ds and while its ok, its still has issues. most people streaming will probably do games where it doesn't matter as much like pokemon but in more demanding games the framerate drops become an issue.

Cyber ? Analog Stick Cover High Type (For Ps Vita) Black by Cyber https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XXSONHM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_1i1BCbJP63XSQ game changer. You can really fine grain the analogues.

I'm going to recommend this bad boy here

While I don't know about a PSTV, this fella worked flawlessly with my Wii U. It's externally powered and although bulky-looking, it does its job well. It even has a power button to turn it off when not in use.

Amazon Japan...Link.

EDIT: Should note, I live in Japan.

And these rock too, if you got some microSDs you'd rather use up. I got a few and they do as they say...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/MicroSD-Memory-adapter-microSD-microSDHC/dp/B004GXKI04

u/Robobinnie · 1 pointr/vitahacks

I'm a let's player, I used this specific one as most will not work and HDCP is hardware.

https://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Powered-Splitter-1080P-VHD-1X2MN3D/dp/B004F9LVXC

I use it for my pstv/ps3 and ps4

u/Malazan1164BS · 1 pointr/vitahacks

A splitter is the only method I know of to bypass; would be difficult to disable with software since it is hardware-level encryption.
