Yes. In fact, there's a simple experiment you can do to see liquid carbon dioxide for yourself.

Safety warnings: Safety glasses are mandatory for this experiment. Dry ice can give you frostbite, so don't handle it with bare hands. Dry ice also produces lots of CO2 gas, so don't confine it in a container except as described below, and for god's sake don't eat it. I take no responsibility for injury or damage.

  1. Get some dry ice: it's sold at the ice store. Maybe you didn't know ice stores were a thing.

  2. Get some 3 ml disposable plastic pipettes, like this. Cut off the narrowest part.

  3. Set out a clear plastic cup of water. Don't use a glass cup.

  4. Put on safety goggles. Have a pair of pliers at the ready.

  5. Chop the dry ice up into very tiny pieces, and put the pieces in through the tip of the pipette until they partially fill the bulb.

  6. Fold over the tip of the pipette and clamp it firmly shut with the pliers. Immediately dunk it into the water. Make sure the bulb is completely submerged.

  7. The pressure inside the pipette will rise. When it reaches 5.2 atmospheres, the dry ice will suddenly turn into a liquid. A few seconds later, the pipette will blow up, throwing water everywhere.
