Possible but not ethical and you probably wont hit it. The Daisy Red Ryder only fires BBs about 350 feet per second. I would use a air gun capable of a minimum of 700-1000 feet per second. This one using pellets would be minimum for shooting squirrels.

Then either firecrackers or get a crossman type pellet gun something like this 880 Powerline Kit, Dark Brown/Black, 37.6 Inch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000YAXRJC/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_hR2hyb60SK3TA would be a good 60$ investment i mean if it can kill squirrels it should get rid of your problem.

How would you compare it to this model?

Seems like a crazy amount of bang for your buck. Are they not great? (total newb here)

If he's abnormally tall, get him something to use at his current height, and will continue to work for him as he gets older. I was tall when I was younger, and my first bb gun still fits me because my parents bought one a little bigger than me.

The Daisy Powerline 880 is powerful, easy to cock, and accurate. I've shot tons of them and would recommend them to anyone starting out, or someone looking to use one for just practice.

It really depends on what you want to do with it. You don't really give much to go on. You say specifically break barrel, but don't let us know why. If you're just looking to do some fun target shooting, or looking to just learn how to shoot, I'd seriously look at one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/Powerline-Rifle-Dark-Brown-Black/dp/B000YAXRJC/ref=sr_1_14?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1524984033&sr=1-14&keywords=Air+gun

60 bucks for a reasonably accurate air rifle you can use to knock down some targets. You can shoot BBs for dirt cheap or get some .177 pellets if you need the extra knock down, or are shooting steal targets.

I honestly wouldn't use this for hunting anything because it just doesn't have enough power for a humane kill unless you get REALLY good with it, and even then, only small rodents or small birds.
