I think that the event is awesome. It has a fairly interesting story and a lot of the Spider-Men featured are awesome and are all unique. They are all really memorable.

If you want to start reading it, then I suggest you start with The Parker Luck trade as it gives you some background on what has happened with Parker recently which will help you understand Spiderverse easier. Then you should get this Spiderverse trade (or find a cheaper one). Alternatively, you can get this. It does not come with any of the Spiderverse tie-ins although they aren't really needed to understand the whole story.

You can also get Edge of the Spiderverse which contains backstories of some of the characters featured in the event.

How to Get Into Comic Books (13:40) | Patrick Willems

Consider your intent/commitment. Think about stories/characters from TV, movies, games, etc. that you already like. Do you seek “good” storytelling or encyclopedic Marvel knowledge? Are you here to collect or read? How much time/resources are available?

Don’t try to read everything—there’s too much. Forget about continuity, universes, and timelines; it's all very confusing, even to creators/fans. Older comics can be an acquired taste for modern audiences, so first appearances/early origins may not be the best starting points. Creative teams change often, characters get re-worked, and origins are re-told (e.g. I never cared for Hawkeye until Matt Fractions’ run).

Pick an interesting character/team and seek their “greatest hits”. Focus on well-received, relatively self-contained, and complete stories. You may encounter the occasional unexplained reference/character/event—just ride along (Wiki if necessary). Remember, there are so many other great characters and publishers to explore, and not all comics are about superheroes.

[Newest series by Dan Slott] (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Amazing-Spider-Man-1-Parker-Luck/dp/0785166769/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1426956787&sr=1-1&keywords=Amazing+Spider-man+volume+1) is pretty good. It follows on immediately from last year's Superior Spider-man but it is pretty self contained and a fun read.

Batman by Snyder & Capullo is generally the most acclaimed Bat-book at the moment.

Hi!

For starters, we got a big ol' recommended reading list that should suit most of your needs. Most of these characters have also had some kind of reboot/relaunch in recent years, so looking around for anything with their name attached and "Volume 1" is a pretty good way to get started if you're so inclined. For example...

Batman (note that this story is about 12 issues, so you'd want volume 2 to go along with it)

Deadpool

Spider-Man

Thor

Black Panther hasn't had anything major recently, I don't think, but he has a new series starting soon. Also please note that except for Batman and Thor, I cannot personally attest to the quality of the comics I've linked. There's also some even more recent stuff, but it's not collected yet like these are.

First things first, find your local comic books store: http://www.comicshoplocator.com/Home/1/1/57/575

As for what to read:

Some great recent places to start with Spider-Man and Daredevil would be Amazing Spider-Man Vol 1: The Parker Luck and Daredevil Vol 1 by Mark Waid.

u/centipededamascus · 2 pointsr/comicbooks

For Batman, the really good series right now is Batman by Scott Snyder. You can find a list of trades for that series on Wikipedia here. The most recent one is Zero Year - Dark City.

For the Flash, the most recent trade is The Flash vol. 4: Reverse. Vol. 5 is set to release in February.

For Superman, you can find a list of Superman collections on Wikipedia here. I would recommend sticking to Action Comics by Grant Morrison or Greg Pak, and Superman by Geoff Johns.

For Spider-Man, they recently relaunched the main Spider-Man series and the most recent trade is Amazing Spider-Man vol. 1: The Parker Luck.

Hope that helps!

I would say it depends on how much reading you feel like doing. Generally people recommend the most popular runs of acclaimed writers, and there's a number of great writers that have worked on Spider-Man over the years. So, depending on how much reading you feel like (keep in mind there's nothing wrong with going back to catch up on previous runs after you've begun), you could start with JMS's run (starts with Amazing Spider-Man #30, and is collected in trades starting here ), or the start of Dan Slott's run (officially starts at #648 and is collected in trades starting here ), or the post-Superior Spider-Man Dan Slott run (most recent, starts with Amazing Spider-Man #1, first trade collected here ).

So there's a number of great runs you can start with, and all of them are new-reader friendly. Just jump in and enjoy, and you can always read previous runs later!

Look at the Collected Editions tab and you can see the Softcover collections, these are trades. Single issues collected into a graphic novel format.

This is Vol 1 of Superior Spider Man.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0785167048/ref=pd_aw_fbt__b_img_3?refRID=0262D1SA9Z7ZR33TF7YS

Use amazon or visit a shop to collect the 6 in the series. There are also Hardcover editions of the series that contain more issues than normal trades.

Superior Spider Man is a series in which Doctor Octopus trades his mind into Peter Parkers body and takes control of him. The six volumes is a good starting point to get into recent issues. After Superior Spider Man, Amazing Spiderman was renumbered once Parker gets back control. This is volume 1 of the renumbered series, in which there currently are only two.

I guess you could use this itself as a starting point. But i always recommend Superior Spiderman cause its a really good series imo

Those issues are from the 80s. New Avengers where he makes the remark that he chafes is from 2005 and in this story arc a person he was fighting unravelled the strands in his costume and he had to web up his crotch so he wasn't hanging dong in public so I think it's safe to assume he just decided to stop wearing underwear because of the chaffing.

Or he just forgot to wear some that day and decided to joke about it because he was uncomfortable.

There are trade paperbacks of Amazing Spider-Man (2014) (which is the one after Superior), the first volume is called "The Parker Luck".

If you like Spider-Man, the current run is great. The first volume will be released in October here. If you like Batman, Snyder's run for The New 52 starts here and has been incredible. Green Arrow starting from Volume 4 is good, as is GA: Year One. I always love pushing people to read Danger Girl by Andy Hartnell and J. Scott Campbell (he does a lot of variants for Spider-Man). Spawn, Witchblade (Good jumping point) and Hellblazer are all great series (Hellblazer has a TV show Constantine coming out soon).

If you want more recommendations, or there is a character you want to read let me know.

u/Redmagpie93 · 2 pointsr/Marvel

Sorry for the delay... of the recent stuff, Spidey is probably easiest to suggest for. I wouldn't worry which of these you choose as they should all be enjoyable. :)

Here's the Amazon Listing for the TPB. Not sure if it's accurate, but Amazon's listings are pretty reliable. Since Amazon isn't considered direct market, you can expect this TPB to come out a week or two earlier than Amazon's expected release at your local comic book shop.

Hope this helps, but could be bullshit. Probably isn't though. Maybe.

I had a question regarding collecting comics. I recently started collecting marvel comics and I prefer getting collected editions such as this. This one for example has issues 1-6 so I don't have to go and buy monthly. I prefer this over getting each issue separately. My concern was does DC sell their comics as collected editions like that as well?

Edit: Apologies if this is a dumb question. I just started reading and collecting comics last month.

No worries for the long reply, that is all really good information that is helping me clear my mind about what's going on with Spider-Man!
I have found this, is this one the collection you are talking about?
If so, with volumes from 1 to 4 I should be able to catch up with what is happening right now if I'm not wrong and I have understood your post!

u/hoodie92 · 1 pointr/Marvel

> Where will Edge of Spider-verse be collected?

EoSV will be its own collection.

>Will there be an Amazing Spider-man OHC that collects 1-6? I kind of want to see his return but don't want to end up buying a paperback for it.

No, volume 1 covers #1-5

> Is the Who Am I series good? Is it as good as the other Dan Slott Spider-man books?

I don't know, I've never even heard of it.

u/REC_Blobkat · 1 pointr/Spiderman

Oh yeah, I'm definitely picking up Superior. I honestly bought the first volume thinking it was a stand-alone universe, and read about halfway through it before switching to Ultimate. I really loved what I read, but at the time I was more interested in reading about Peter Parker. Still super cool looking back and putting the pieces together realizing Superior is a part of the Amazing run. And I definitely want to try to stick to chronological order over anything, so I'll get to Spider-Verse in due time.

As for the Champions series with Miles, I kinda saw the titles, but ultimately I think I'm going to stay away from it. I honestly think I prefer just reading mainly about the individual stories rather than what they get into as teams (unless maybe it was like a 1-shot sort of team-up volume like Spider-Men).

Just for shigs, I'm gonna lay out my current understanding of the storyline and if you could interject anything that you think I'm missing out on or if I've got the order out of wack:

For the Miles Line -- Ultimate Miles books 1-3 (includes Spider-Men vol1, as well as 3 issues of Cataclysm in the 3rd book---should I still pick up Cataclysm as a standalone book?) > Edge of Spider-Verse > Spider-Verse > Secret Wars Prelude > Secret Wars > Ultimate End > Spider-Man Miles Morales Vol 1 then continue through to vol 4 (is Civil War 2 worth reading after volume 1? - I see some stuff recommending it as a big tie-in event) > Spider-Men II > Secret Empire > then another Miles Morales Spider-Man vol1 which I believe picks up currently??

For the Peter Parker line, I found a general "how to" guide that references Dan Slott's run, but I don't know if there are other author tie-ins or who picks it up after the end of Slott -- Spider-Man Big Time 1 > sneaking Spider-Island into the middle of the Big Time issues because it looks like it's only briefly touched on in Big Time > Big Time 2-4 > Superior vol 1&2 > Amazing Spider-Man: The Parker Luck > Edge of Spider-Verse > Spider-Verse > Amazing SM: Graveyard Shift > Amazing SM: Spiral > Amazing SM Worldwide 1-4 > Amazing SM: Clone Conspiracy > World Wide 5-7 > Amazing SM: Venon INC is this one a good read or ok to skip? > Word Wide 8&9 > then red goblin, then Spider-geddon (as per suggested by you haha; and I believe Spider-geddon runs up to current status?)

Separate from that, I guess I'd pick up the new Superior Octopus & Superior Spider after Clone Conspiracy & Spider-geddon respectively (probably once it's in a collected format), & maybe check out Spider-Gwen's run, and I also had the owner of the comic shop mention a separate Amazing SM line where it's Peter, MJ, and their daughter all with powers? (I can't remember the title for the life of me though).
