Apple 12W charger $19.

Charging cable from any number of Apple Certified vendors is around $6.
Lightning cable $6.

Another one

HTC Wall charger $19

Samsung Wall charger $35

Apple doesn't seem over priced for a first party accessory.

You don't have to get a Lightning cable from Apple, there are a bunch of Apple-certified cables for much cheaper.

If the funds are available, the best course of action is going to be a newer iPad.

Regarding a replacement:

I wouldn't go for anything older than an iPad Air. My dad recently smashed his iPad 2 and replaced it with an iPad Air (not iPad Air 2, the latest one) and has been perfectly happy.

You can get an iPad Air refubished from Apple for $340. You can get 6 month interest free financing with an Apple BarclayCard.

I used to work for Gazelle, an electronics reseller. They have some good prices on iPads on eBay, they have a good return policy if you're not happy, and if they still retain the same quality guidelines, their Very Good items are really just about good as new. Maybe one or two scratches that are hardly noticeable. Following are some links:

iPad Air 32GB LTE for $299

iPad Air 32GB for $299

iPad Air 16GB for $269

*Does not include cable (the cable for the Air is not the same as the iPad 2), but you can get one on Amazon for $7.

If you are just talking about the cables themselves, the biggest difference between cheap knock-off cables and MFi cables are typically in shielding. Cables with shit shielding can result in poor data transference at best, or overheating in the cable resulting in a fire at worst.

Using a non-MFi charging block is far more dangerous, however. Tear-downs of cheap knockoff charging blocks almost always result in obvious corner-cutting, increasing the risks of damaging your device and/or starting a fire.

Really though - this is the risk you run when you buy cheap Chinese cables regardless of which device it is for. A lot of the knock-off manufacturers put far more effort in making it look good than actual build quality.

Really, there is no excuse in not using an MFi cable, especially since you can get one from Amazon for $6.

This is the cable, not the charger. You can replace the cable for $6.50 on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Apple-Certified-Lightning-Cable/dp/B010U3XO3Q. As others have said, you can avoid this in the future by pulling on the plug and not the cable.

In the end it's gonna cost you more when the charger fries your electronics and you have to buy ones. I've seen it happen enough to not take chances. You can buy mfi certified cables for less than $20

Yes it can, just spend a couple of more bucks to get a licensed one.

There are so many different versions that will be fine.

I have used the ones from [Amazon Basic](AmazonBasics Apple Certified Lightning to USB Cable - 3 Feet (0.9 Meters) - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010U3XO3Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_zkj1xb1TP3DXA) and [Anker](iPhone charger, Anker Lightning to USB Cable (3ft) for iPhone 6s 6 Plus 5s 5c 5, iPad Pro, Air 2, iPad mini 4 3 2, iPod touch 5th gen / 6th gen / nano 7th gen [Apple MFi Certified] (White) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K4VQZCM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Blj1xb7GE9FCB/) and they have both worked real well. For the same price I would get Anker

I've been using the same 6' AmazonBasics lightning cable for a year now and never had any issues with it... I actually have 3, all of which I use on a regular basis (one on my nightstand, one in my home office, and one for my desk at work) and never had an issue with any of them.
