Yes. There's a lot of game in just one core.

Others have suggested there's good alternatives to the suggested starting decks. For me deck construction is a big part of the game. After you've got the basics, you might decide that one player plays the blue-backed cards (corp) and the other should keep the red-backed cards (runner), so you can get to know them better. You might decide to get one core set each so you can build your decks and have them ready to play but this isn't necessary. There are good databases online that you can limit to just the cards you have. There's limitations on how many cards you can have that aren't from your colour – a crazy suggestion is you might decide to agree to raise that a little bit.

If you're still enjoying it after a dozen sessions you could add in one of the the four big expansions, which add a lot of value. Each has cards for one runner and one corp faction, so you can buy based on the faction you like the most, or the one that needs the most help. The first one is the most generally useful. Also there's a good argument, that if you're only going to buy one, to get the last one.

One last suggestion is that if you want to learn the game, try facebook or call near by store to find a local group. Because everyone brings two decks they will probably let you use theirs to try the game out. That's how I learned the game. If you've bought a core set, take that and ask if anyone will play with that. I'd suggest you get them to play HB (purple+grey) and you play with the Shaper (light green+grey) cards. I always teach runner first because the corp has to worry about managing their hand.
