As the mom of a 9 month old, this is what we use every single day:

stage 2 purees
- cheerios, puffs, baby mum mums
- A big basket of assorted cheap toys because he doesn't quite play WITH anything yet, but loooooves to grab and pull at stuff. Any stuff. May as well be a basket of cloth books, rattles and the like. Buy used!
- baby gates in the doorways of the childproofed room so I can sit while he crawls about
- anti-tip straps for ALL heavy furniture. My bigger kiddo never ever needed this stuff but HOLY GOD, this little boy is a whirlwind.
- pacifiers to soothe him
- cold stuff to chew on (good god, the teething.) I put an ice cube in a mesh feeder or a cold washcloth or a teether.

If you do get a very shallow tv, do get a anti-tilt strap or something similar:
