I bet you could find a used ADC-DVI Adapter (like this) fairly cheaply. It'll mux together the DVI signal, USB, and power.
You need a 100 dollar dvi to adc adapeter. You also need a mini dispalyport(thunderbolt) to dvi adapter. A never monitor is cheaper and looks better than getting adapters.

ADC feeds power and USB to the monitor so you need an adapter, there is no other (reasonable) way to power it.

Yep, that would work. Except you do need the active ADC to DVI adapter. The passive ones you're seeing are to go the other way - from a DVI monitor to an ADC Mac, which is a much simpler process.
