In my older cars, I've always dropped cables down behind the head unit, down along the shifter, and come up through the center console. Not sure if the WRX has a set-up where that could work, but it may be worth a shot. I've also drilled a small hole in the ash tray in a previous car and set a USB extension cord to rest in there. That way I could close it and make it look neat when I didn't have my iPod hooked up, or pull it out and hook it up when I wanted to use it.
I've also put mounts like this into cars (tend to go this route more for Jeeps and trucks) off of the passenger seat and just run the cables right out from under the plastic trim where the front passenger's left foot would be.
