It's not a very good time to be buying GPU's, the prices are still going down and there are new nvidia's on the horizon, but since you asked...

  • Ausu b250 mining expert. $140 No brainer, best mining board out right now.
  • i3 Processor. $120 I'm a big fan of the g4400 for linux builds, but being able to run windows is required for some coins/cards right now.
  • 8 gig ram. $80. Split between 2 linux builds use both sticks for windows.
  • Your favorite PSU. I like the Corsair HXi series. $180. You can use 3 PSU's with the mobo, so expanding is possible, but not optimal obviously.
  • Risers $100
  • 13 used GTX750 1Gig. $555.62. Make sure you don't buy the fakeedoos.

That leaves you about $125 for presents for Mrs. Vosk and Tails. You will be running about 3.3-3.5kh/s on cryptonight/V7 @ about 500+watts or about 1ksol/s (I think?) on equihash. About $6 worth of monero/day at this instant.

When the new Nvidia cards come out, ebay the 750's or throw them away as you replace them with 1180's.

i use this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075KFPJ6M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

but then again, I'm into this for a bit more than most.

absolutely no reason to get that mobo, just a waste of money. this board is less then a third the cost and is perfect for your plans https://www.amazon.com/B250-MINING-EXPERT-Motherboard-Cryptocurrency/dp/B075KFPJ6M/ref=sr_1_2?crid=PGGY0XPT5A8K&keywords=b250+motherboard&qid=1556270383&s=electronics&sprefix=b250%2Celectronics%2C168&sr=1-2

you will also need more system RAM for some of these newer algorithms, the exact amount depends on what GPU and how many of them you go with (DO NOT DO THE 750's!!!!) if you go AMD you are most likely OK on RAM as the higher paying algo's for the 570's don't care to much about system ram.

No, I've never seen anyone mine with one. They use individual video cards

You buy a motherboard with a ton of PCIe mini slots like this one that was made specifically for GPU mining:

https://www.amazon.com/B250-Mining-LGA1151-Motherboard-Cryptocurrency/dp/B075KFPJ6M/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1536881406&sr=8-3&keywords=gpu+mining

Then you buy these 'Riser' adapter that convert PCIe mini to PCIe and allow you to have your cards not attached to your motherboard and likely hanging off of some sort of shelving unit or whatever.

I'm getting it from Platinum Micro on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/B250-MINING-EXPERT-Motherboard-Cryptocurrency/dp/B075KFPJ6M

Let me test it out early next week and I'll report back, would hate for both of us to deal with another bad mobo!

Thanks! I’m wondering if it would make sense to get one that can handle a few more if I know I’m going to run 10 cards at once? Like this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075KFPJ6M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_idXPAb214DFYJ

Or if I should get two of the one you linked and run 5 on each board with a 750-1000w psu each. Maybe two is better in case one goes down?

What do you think of this motherboard: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075KFPJ6M/ref=asc_df_B075KFPJ6M5420714?smid=A1FF9ODJZIUKGX&tag=hawk-future-20&linkCode=df0&creative=395129&creativeASIN=B075KFPJ6M&ascsubtag=trd-1120091410-20

Also, those GPUs are not available for me on Fry's. The cheapest are sold out and the second cheapest is unavailable. The best price I could do on that card is $200ea. Still worth it?

I had bad luck with this particular mobo and Vega, but saw success stories here... I would avoid it. My personal favorite is ASUS Mining Expert

And where is power cables for breakout board? The PSU is quite, but it's good for 5xVEGA only.
