I use a Badger Patriot 105 along with a Super Fine Conversion Kit. I use a Badger Aspire TC910 compressor, but I also used a variant of this little mini air compressor for about a year which worked great.

For paints I used Citadel; what you see here is Incubi Darkness, followed by Kabalite Green and then Sybarite Green. I did a final brush edge highlight with Gauss Blaster Green. I get these at my FLGS.

I recently got the the Vallejo GameAir set for my birthday, and the paint is great. I didn't use it here though, this is all Citadel paint.

As for technique, I based the whole model black (with the riders separate) and then applied a fairly broad highlight of Incubi Darkness on the higher (where the light hitting the model was more prevalent) spots, then moved the brush a bit closer to catch the inner parts with Kabalite Green, then a bit closer using the same technique with Sybarite green. As for the edges I just purposefully over-sprayed so only half the paint hit the model, giving it a sharp edge.

The GameAir set from Vallejo comes with a color conversion chart but doesnt cover most of the "Dark Eldar" colors, only the basics. You can thin down Citadel paints with water, but the pigment in them is thicker than actual air brush paint, so your brush will clog, and paint drying on the air brush needle is a real annoyance. Other than that, I'd recommend watching a few videos on airbrushing 101, this effect was really not hard to apply at all once you get a gist for trigger control and aiming.

Other than that, the Wyches were painted following pretty much every Dark Eldar armor/flesh painting video you can find, haha.

This is the compressor I went with, after initially looking at the Iwata Ninja & Sprint. Tank and moisture trap work perfectly, and it's half the cost of Iwata's compressors of that size.

And yeah, dropper bottles will make life so much easier even when painting with a brush. Think I spent less than $15 for the bottles and bearings.

I grabbed one of these from Michaels last year for dirt cheap...I believe it was around $75.

I think the store I was at was trying to get rid of their air brush equipment.

I'd say give them a look just to see if it was just my store or if they are trying to move them company wide.

If you have the budget, i'd suggest the Badger Aspire Pro. It's one of the higher end compressors and I really enjoy mine. Not overly loud, has a tank, and a built in water trap.

If you buy this, you won't have to ever consider upgrading.

That's a full sized compressor, but same theory :-).

You need an airbrushing one. Have a look at these:

Not sure where you are located, but try art or model supply shops, search for "airbrush compressor". They should go for around $100-200. You only need 1/5 to 1/4 HP as you only need to reach up to 30 psi (most spraying would be 18-25 psi).

I can see that. I paint away from people so its only me that would be bothered with the noise.

My 8 gallon can go an entire paint session (miniatures about 2 hours at a time, not constantly using the airbrush but close) and never have to be refilled. 2-3 min of compressing, turn the compressor off, then paint till im done. But for the cost of my 8 gallon if I was looking at just airbrushing I would go for something like this, the badger TC910 the badger TC910

I got one of these as a hand me down from my buddy when i started. It ran for me for a good two years before it burnt itself out and he had it for 4 years before me. Great affordable starter compressor. I like having a tank so it does not have to run 100% of the time when your using it.

Sense then replaced it with the link below and its a wonderful compressor but frankly Im glad I got it on sale I dont see a large enough difference personally. Should something ever go wrong with it I will likely go back to the tcpglobal one above.

I spray Model Air at around 8-12 psi with a Badger Sotar for doing freehand camouflage. It would appear you need to thin your paint for one as the other posts have said (I can see splatter on the fuselage) and get a regulator for your airbrush compressor. Or buy one that has a regulator. As for a compressor, I use a Badger one. It’s AMAZING.

I got one of these a couple years ago and have been very happy with it. I bought one that had a factory blemish, so it was about $50 cheaper than what Amazon wants for a new one. I'm sure if you shop around, you can find one cheaper.
