He needs a more powerful air rifle to do this humanely. A Red Rider will only injure a chipmunk (like put its eye out). Even a cheap spring piston rifle from Walmart will do the trick.

Both the Titan and the 95 are great guns and are the guns I generally suggest to anyone looking at a $150 air rifle. The Titan is lighter and quieter, and the 95 has a nicer trigger. The scopes that come with both are complete rubbish.

The other rifle I would suggest in your price ranges is the Beeman RS2. I think walmart sells it as the Grizzly now...it'll be the two barrel combo. There's a synthetic stock version that's a little lighter and less hurtful to your ego when it gets dinged. Either way, though, it's a loud and heavy gun (heavier than the Titan or 95), and simply bigger. But it's got a very nice trigger, it is a solid tack driver, and dead reliable. The benefit here is that for $100 it leaves enough of your budget left over to get a decent scope.
