Power level is so high now that it is easy to play old instances and raids solo. I've gotten to see a lot of stuff since WoD dropped that I didn't get to see before. I get ample play time but I'm a night manager at a big retail store so I'm working or sleeping during big group content times (guess I need to roll on an Aussie server or something to find people playing at the same time as me). Even Cata stuff is kind of faceroll once you start getting your iLevel 640+ gear.

Garrisons seem complicated but aren't really. Followers are annoying but there are only set ones you can recruit unless you bring in the Inn so its mainly a matter of just doing all the quests to pick them all up. The Inn lets you get non-story followers that are randomized and that gets a bit more complicated.

Once you cap, you'll spend more time dinking around in the garrison as there aren't a ton of dailies in WoD and some of the main resources you used to gather through dailies (gold, etc.) are now done via follower missions. Garrisons also support your crafting which is kind of a slow grind to get your mats and make your stuff.

There's a few guides around that discuss theory crafting as to what the best buildings to have are and so forth and you can always change them out if you pick wrong or decide you don't like one of the buildings you put in.

Anyway, umm guides

Lore: WoD is heavily influenced by Warcraft II era mythos, particularly Beyond the Dark Portal which detailed the Draenor Orc Clans. I'd check out the game but if you can't be bothered to play an old game (and to be fair, narrative wasn't the strong suit of the first two Warcraft games) there is a novelization

if you've not played Warcraft III, take a break and play it for a bit. You'll learn a TON about WoW lore from that alone. Esp. most things dealing with TBC and WoTLK era stuff.
