Very cool man!

I made one of these years ago; a couple suggestions:

  • Adding a temperature controlled outlet plugin you can put the probe in the water and set a specific temp that you always want the tub to be at to bypass the freezer's desire to always... ya, know... freeze.
  • If it begins to leak, you can add a pool liner inside for an easy way to line/seal it.

For temps look at something with a temp sensor and pair that with a cheap booster fan and it will pull the air out when the light is on and regulate the temps for you. https://www.amazon.com/Century-BNQ-T7B-Digital-Cooling-Controller/dp/B01LZV591B/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1550002156&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=century+temp+controller

I looked at a comparable led light and it looks like it would have appropriate PAR levels of light at about 24-30 inches above your plant. 12 inches is really close. Plants at that stage need very little light intensity. The consensus is about 250 par for seedlings. Here is a link to something with pretty similar wattage draw to give you an idea of intensity at different heights. https://www.amazon.com/VIPARSPECTRA-Reflector-Spectrum-Indoor-Function/dp/B015FLSOCE/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1550002428&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=viparspectra

Just get a basic thermostat that turns the fan on at whatever temperature you want.

I did some pretty serious research on this a few weeks ago and ended up going with this set and adding on 2 kegs and the 5 lbs CO2. I didn’t want to go with something off Craigslist for sanitary and safety reason and this seemed to be the best deal and reliable. I then found a 7cft chest freezer off Craigslist for $40 after weeks of watching it like a hawk. They go fast! Also check Let Go, OfferUp, and Facebook marketplace. Then I bought this temperature regulator. All in all it was about $300 that I rationalized to my wife by using my hard earned discover cash back on and promising it would help us better host our friends :) worth it!

Edit: I went with the pin lock kegs because they were about $20 cheaper but it look like there out of stock. Although people seems to prefer ball lock anyways.

I would put a fan next to it and use something like this, Century BNQ-T7B(C) Digital Cooling Temp Controller for Cooling Device 40-10, 3.15 x 1.69 x 4.70, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZV591B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_d57jDb73CJY6P to turn it on at a certain temperature.. it's what I use and also a z wave temperature sensor to keep and eye on it remotely..

Or better yet, use something like this NavePoint 4U 19 Inch Vertical Wall Mount Rack Wall Mountable Server Rack w/Hardware Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M1GFVKD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_F87jDbSJAM9KB and mount it in your office or guest room if it's not too loud.. it takes barely any space.

If the thermostat is messed up does it still cool? If so you could get an independent temperature controller like this - https://www.amazon.com/Century-BNQ-T7B-Digital-Cooling-Controller/dp/B01LZV591B
