Because according to the Dell page for the 9560, your laptop only has HDMI 1.4

If you get a thunderbolt 3 to displayport adapter you should be able to get 60hz.

Something like this https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-Supporting-Thunderbolt/dp/B01J6DT070

I have this Elgato dock. 4K60 does not work through the DisplayPort port, but it does work using this USB-C to DisplayPort cable. The only other downside is that when I connect my iPhone to a USB cable plugged into this dock while my MacBook is asleep, the computer experiences a kernel panic. Sometimes.

u/jst_jst · 3 pointsr/mac

I just realized that there are USB C to DisplayPort cables for 30$. I will probably go with that, although a dock with dual Display outputs would be better.

u/evilmnky204 · 3 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

Which multiport TB 3 dongle do you have?

I've had similar issues getting my 2016 MBP 15" to display full 4k at 60Hz, as almost every multiport adapter can only do 4k 30Hz due to some bandwidth(?) restrictions. You should definitely try a dedicated USB-C to DP cable like this one - it worked for me to get full 4k 60Hz.

Thanks /u/Heaven_Sent for telling me about this sub!

I am using the cable matters USB-C to DP cable. It is working at 3440*1440 @ 60Hz.

For those considering getting the LG 34UC98, I would reconsider if you don't really need to connect via thunderbolt and don't care about the white color.

My setup:

MacBook Pro 2016 with AMD 460 GPU

LG 34UC88-B

Two LG 5K Ultrafine displays

46" 1080P Samsung TV

I have this dongle https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BHH38G7/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and this usb-c to DisplayPort
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01J6DT070/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Ive tried both of them in the top right usb C port while having streaming video going on over wifi with no issues or buffering. I tried copying files to a flash drive and SD card through the dongle while in the top right port. If I can help in any other way let me know, or if there is anything else you want me to try let me know.

Edit I also just check and I was on my regular Wifi (2.4Ghz), not the 5Ghz band

Thunderbolt 3 is essentially a enhanced version of USB-C. Which means that USB-C devices will work like normal. So all you need is a USB-C to Display Port cable or adapter.

I have a Zephyrus M (GM501) with a 1070 and have been running my 1440p 144hz external monitor off of my Thunderbolt port for months. My plan is to use that same cable for the Rift S, if/when I get it.

This is the cable I use. Would absolutely recommend.

Pick up one of these guys while you're at it if your Thunderbolt port is on the same side as your mouse hand, like mine is.

I don't know about 144hz but there are plenty of USB-C to display port cables out there. I myself use them. I think I bought the first thing that came up on Amazon when I searched for it.

USB-C to display port, 4k@60hz

The lightning icon means that it's Thunderbolt (3) port. I thought that all type-c thunderbolt ports are also video output ports or am I mistaken?

You could tell us the exact make/model of your laptop, so we can check it's specifications to be sure...

u/PenoineAddict · 1 pointr/Dell

That is correct. The laptop itself does not support 4k@60hz over hdmi. You need any cable that is usb-c to displayport 1.2 or higher. They can be had for ~10-20 on amazon, you don’t need a thunderbolt 3 cable. I added a good option from amazon

https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-USB-C-Supporting/dp/B01J6DT070/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1527649539&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=usb+c+to+displayport+cable&dpPl=1&dpID=41rUpi--8EL&ref=plSrch

u/SomeAccount9901 · 1 pointr/mac

I use this monitor with this cable. You'll need to use two cables, one for the monitor and a separate cable for laptop charging, but it's about half the cost of the 4K LG monitor Apple sells. You can also make it a little cheaper if you choose a cheaper monitor like this one.

u/thenastynate · 1 pointr/macsetups

It could be. Do you have the same 2017 MBP as I do? If so, I wouldn't be surprised if using an HDMi adapter requires some CPU activity. I try to avoid adapters as much as possible so I'd recommend using something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-Supporting-Thunderbolt/dp/B01J6DT070/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1522193139&sr=8-4&keywords=usb+c+to+displayport+cable

USB-c has native support for display port, so it seemed that this was the best way to go. I could be totally wrong though so feel free to do some research lol

u/TechProJoe · 1 pointr/Surface

You should be able to use a cable like this. If you want to look at docks, just make sure they are USB-C or the surface dock and not TB3(thunderbolt 3) as the surface devices don't have thunderbolt.

It does appear to support DP, but it's not thunderbolt. So something like this should work

> I don't see a lot of USB-C mouses,

You don't need usb-c, you can just use bluetooth. Logitech mice support both. gasp.

>I don't see a lot of usb-c proyectors, I don't see a lot of USB-c monitors..

You don't need usb-c native, you use a DP->C cable like this one. which is no different than just using a normal interface. This is not a dongle "problem". This is an "issue" regardless of DVI, HDMI or DP.

> For example, I have not seen a phone with usb-c that doesn't have a USB-A on the other side of the cable.

I don't see how this is even remotely relevant. You just use the same USB-C-USB-C cable you're already using for every other device. Yet another point in the USB-C conversions favor.

>Forgetting about all this thing is pretty stupid.

Pretending this is even remotely an issue is pretty stupid, when you can't even source a single reason that's literally no different than the non USB-C solutions.

u/LegendarE · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

Not sure exactly what you're trying to do but you can use hdmi 2.0 which supports 1080p @ 240Hz or get a usb-c to dp cable like this https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-USB-C-Supporting/dp/B01J6DT070

u/treeder123 · 1 pointr/chromeos

It's a USB-C to Displayport cable directly from Pixelbook to monitor, believe it's this one.

u/yogibasket · 1 pointr/Alienware

Maybe something like this
https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Thunderbolt-DisplayPort-Supporting/dp/B01DYFI1OE

or

even a simple TB3 to DisplayPort cable
https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-USB-C-Supporting/dp/B01J6DT070 might work?

Your laptop has an hdmi and Mini DisplayPort connectors as well.

Connecting your monitor with a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable would be your best bet and I would bet would get you the full 120hz @ 3,440x1440 resolution.
https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Mini-DisplayPort-Cable-Feet/dp/B013PWQPFS

I would run one of those for your monitor and treat your other connections separately. I would recommend using the mDP to DP cable and then run a dock off of your TB3 port for all of your other connections. Maybe one of the docks in this article would suit your needs?
https://www.gearhungry.com/best-thunderbolt-3-dock/

u/mikeoc322 · 1 pointr/thinkpad

Thank you. How would that work with these monitors? I'm just confused since each monitor only has a single USB-C input each.

Would I run a USB-C --> DisplayPort cable from each of the monitors, into that dock, into the ThinkPad?

Cheers.

Your Lenovo has HDMI and a Thunderbolt 3 port.

Ideally you would want to connect one monitor to HDMI and the other with Thunderbolt 3 (the port has a Lightningbolt symbol next to it on the laptop).

Thunderbolt 3 easily converts to a different type of connection called DisplayPort. The Acer monitor model you selected does not have DisplayPort.

Because of this I would recommend looking at this monitor from BenQ instead:

https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-GW2480-Monitor-Flicker-free-Speakers/dp/B072XCZSSW

It has both HDMI and DisplayPort as well as more screen real estate and better color reproduction than the Acer you were looking at. Hopefully it is not too far off budget for you.

The BenQ monitor should already include an HDMI cable, so now you need to get yourself a Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort cable like this one:

https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-USB-C-Supporting/dp/B01J6DT070

As for your Mac, if I am seeing it correctly, it has a total of four Thunderbolt 3 ports on it. This means all you need to do is grab an additional Tunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort cable.

You can have one monitor with both an HDMI and a Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort cable connected to it and simply choose the correct cable to connect to either the Macbook or the Lenovo depending on which you are looking to use.

u/zakabog · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

You'll want this Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort cable. Then just buy whatever DisplayPort compatible monitor you want. For USB ports on the monitor you'd need a separate USB cable (the monitor would connect as a USB hub using a USB cable.) I'd personally recommend a 1440p at 144Hz display like the Acer Predator XB271HU which I personally own. It's expensive but it gives you 1440p, 144Hz, IPS, and G-Sync.
