You don't need a permit or background check to buy this either: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00NZ8O1AY/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/186-1579615-2750736

But it is also a lethal weapon, not a toy. Same with this: http://www.amazon.com/KA-BAR-Marine-Corps-Fighting-Straight/dp/B001H53Q6M

So I don't think that a background check is what makes the difference between a toy and a weapon.

It is true that kids typically don't get shot for holding a baseball bat or ball, but they can get shot for making a sudden movement which the officer interprets as agression, even if they are unarmed. Brightly colored guns are no replacement for knowing how to act properly around police to avoid being seen as an imminent threat.

I know this may be a bit late but heres what I do since I'm on a budget. I got an 80 lb crossbow pistol off amazon for pretty cheap, needs to be the one with a rail on the bottom. A 40 dollar push button bow fishing reel from zebco and these things . all in all, ran me around 140 or 150, but, works really well. also, to attach the reel to the crossbow you'll need zipties, around 10 or so to make it nice and stable. hope this isn't too late and I hope it helps

my cousin got me one of these for christmas it's pretty fun to play around with, but not a toy. make sure you have a good backstop. if you are planning on shooting it at trees or any thing else, make sure to get some extra bolts, they break kinda easily (but are cheap)

You can get them in many places: UK, US.

I mean there's this mini cannon and this mini crossbow. Depends on your definition of firearm I suppose but it would certainly be possible for the pen to shoot similar little pellets.

Get the one with brass rails. It has an aluminum body and the rails prevent wear.

I have 3. They are perfectly safe, even at point-blank range. The key is in making safe bolts.
