I have terribly waxy ears too. So bad I used to periodically go half deaf from the blockages which could also be very painful. Used to have my ears cleaned out by doctors twice a year.
Buy an ear scope, mostly sold in Japan but you can order one online. You can actually see what's going on in your ear and manually clean it out with a little scoop so you can avoid damaging anything or pushing it deeper : ) I haven't had problems with ear wax in a few years now since I got one and I wish I had bought one sooner!

First try the gentle liquid options. Ear cleaning solutions. Some people have luck with natural oils such as olive oil. None of that worked for me and so, after a few trips to urgent care to get wax buildup blasted painfully with high pressure water (and, I believe, minor hearing loss from the procedure), I purchased this (damn...there are other options for $21 now...check those out) and it worked amazingly well. Eventually the camera crapped out but by then I'd learned my ear layout well enough that I just use the scoop end of something like this once or twice a year.
People will be tempted to parrot what they were told as children about how dangerous putting something in the ear is - and they won't be wrong - but they also won't be right. If you use the camera and are careful then there is no danger. Danger would be: doing this without first using the camera to learn how everything in the ear feels. Sitting next to something you might bump your elbow on while cleaning. Cleaning while children or pets in the house might come bump your elbow. Cleaning while inebriated or temperamental.
