I use Vatika Coconut Oil to control the dandruff. (http://www.amazon.com/Dabur-Vatika-Hair-300ml-Bottles/dp/B000JWM7FA) If you have an Indian market anywhere near you, it's even cheaper than amazon. I only pay about $2/bottle for it. Massage it into your scalp, comb it through your hair and leave it in over night. I use it about once or twice a week and had noticeable improvements after the first treatment.

I keep my hair short because of the dry ends. My hairdresser thins out my hair so that it isn't so poofy.

thanks everyone! i was looking through some of the old threads on this and some people suggested using this product. So since I don't have a lotta money to burn (I'm a grad student), I'm gonna try that first.
