I don't think there is necessarily anything wrong with baseball caps as long as there is no top button, but neck protection is definitely desirable. I think they are dorkier looking than the bucket hat (which I choose to rock) but an alternative is one of the caps with the neck flap: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XV47D9S

The collar has an extra flap that can be popped up for additional neck protection. Doesn't do anything for your ears though.
