Okay, yes -- first -- people will tell you all kinds of stories when you're buying something. Sometimes it's accidentally incorrect lore or family stories, sometimes it's deliberately to mislead. Super, super common.

That said, I think that this is the work of a weaver named Julienne Krasnoff.

Here is a link to a sold listing from 1st Dibs.

Here is a book on weaving she was involved in.

It looks like she was the editor of a weaving magazine called "Shuttle" in the 1970s.

I can't find anything about a Smithsonian show, but I didn't dig really deeply.
