Came here to suggest the Flipbelt too! It's what I use, I used it in this race even :) It's probably the main gear I recommend aside from shoes, especially if you want to bring your phone along (plus you can put other things in it).

Cargo shorts like everyone said. Camelbak is another one. Or if you like wearing gym shorts like I do, you should invest in a running belt which goes around your waist so you know it is always on you. Plus it's harder for people to steal from you.

I have a belt to hold my student pass and my phone. It has slits so you can fit your stuff in and take it out quickly. Lots of different brands available but mine is a Flip Belt.
