Motherboard: This was available but isn't really readily available now. You'll want something with six PCI-E slots, at least at the 1x specification. You'll also need powered 1x to 16x "riser cables". Sometimes the case you find may come with these risers. Getting the motherboard to recognize the six GPUs involves some serious voodoo, and in my experience, Windows doesn't play well, but various distributions of Linux might. Look up the Monerodo OS that /u/gingeropolous put together. But, I don't know if it will "see" 6 GPUs "out of the box" so to speak. 4 GPUs is somehow easier to set up from the OS'es point of view. I had a 290x rig back a couple years ago and I could not for the life of me get more than four running on any one rig, no matter what I did.

Case: This stuff won't fit in standard ATX cases, especially if you go for a 6 GPU setup. Four GPUs maybe would fit, but they'd be really close together and you might have overheating problems. There are a few mining-specific cases which are a bit expensive, and you can search for what you need, but this is an example of one that doesn't look bad, but I haven't used it. I'm myself saving up for these from Graymatter. You can use cardboard and milk crates but I wouldn't recommend it. It's a pain in the ass and not worth the savings.

Power supply: You'll want a PSU that will give a single 12V rail, which most do, as well as one that is rated for at least 20% higher than what you think you'll be drawing, and don't forget that your GPUs aren't the only things using some power. In your case, if you get 4-6 RX480's, you'll want at least an 850w 80+ Gold PSU (or more) for four cards, or over 1200W 80+ Gold PSU for six cards. You can rig up two PSUs of a smaller size if you think that would save you money. I've done both the single PSU and the double PSU with a few methods of activating the second PSU, like the Add2PSU. But for my rigs, I just use a big single PSU. I think there's less headache. Also make sure it has enough 12V PCI-E power 6/8 pin power connectors for the number of power connectors you'll be using on your cards.

RAM: Not much is necessary. One 4GB stick works.

SSD: You could even just boot off a live USB stick with your operating system. If you are only doing mining with this system, a 20-30 GB SSD is plenty for just the OS and mining software.

CPU: Basically not worth trying to get a decent CPU to do the mining with. Run your own numbers but for my dime, I don't think it's worth trying to do both on the same rig (as in, GPU + CPU mining). Get the cheapest CPU you can in the socket your motherboard has. In my napkin math, it's better to spend less on the CPU and just get more GPUs going, because the CPUs we have right now aren't as efficient, or generally, as powerful for the money, as GPUs are. You can mine with CPUs, but I just don't think it's worth it if you're building a 6 GPU rig anyway. My two cents.
