If you don't want to invest too much, you could go with the G230. (I have been using it for 2 years now)

Good price-performance.

Stereo for the win.

  • Budget - ~150€ give or take, but this would be decent headphones and mic combined

  • Source - onboard Sound Card in my PC (Realtek HD Audio)

  • Requirements for Isolation - I will use them only at home, but I would like more isolation from outside noise because it can be quite noisy.

  • Use in public - No

  • Preferred Type - full-sized closed back over-ear

  • Preferred tonal balance - Here I'm not quite sure what I need. I will mostly use the headphones for competitive gaming and voice chat in conjunction, so I won't need incredible amount of bass. I would need some more help here :D

  • Past headphones - My past headphones all were all so-called "gaming headsets", from fatality headsets, over razer to logitech. My current headset I would like to replace is a Logitech G230. They are very comfortable and I would like a similar comfort because I will use the headphones daily and for very long sessions.

  • Preferred Music - Mostly Metal, preferably alternative (Disturbed and such), but music is not the main purpose.

  • Improvements - I would like to enhance my gaming experience and focus on that aspect, so detailed and clear sounds. I would also try out a surround setup to better hear positional cues and a headphone+seperate mic setup to improve the quality of both parts significantly.

  • Location - Germany

I already read through Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide and used the /r/headphones recommendation guide so I got some candidates, but I'm not restricted to them.

  • Creative Aurvana Live!: Very strongly recommendated bei Mad Lust Envy and /r/headphones but I have some concerns about the comfort because I have rather big ears.

  • Ultrasone HFI 15 g: Mad Lust Envy mentioned that they are not the first choice for competitive gaming purposes but at that price range it is hard to pass up.

  • AKG K612 PRO: the most expensive in my list but highly praised everywhere and arguably the best quality in this price range. But I would have to settle with open back and a lower quality mic.

Thank you for your help and as I said the list above is not set and I would appreciate every recommendation of other headphones.

Hello people, so, my friend recommended me to upgrade to a headphone with standalone mic. I already ordered the mic but now I’m looking for some headphones to go with it. I will use them mainly for gaming but also listening to music and watching some shows. I kind of panic ordered the HyperX Cloud II because I bought the mic but hadn’t chosen the headphones yet so I quickly bought these (I will refund it if you guys recommend something else). After researching some more I got to the Sennheiser HD 598SR or Audio-Technica ATH-AD500X.

Budget - ~€120, I kept increasing my budget because found out my budget didn’t have good quality headphones.

Source - Right into my desktop.

Requirements for Isolation - Is not something I'm worried about.

Will you be using these Headphones in Public? - No, only on my desktop.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Over-ear.

Past headphones - Currently I’m using a Logitech G230(Got it for half the price as on the amazon link though). The thing I like about the G230 is that is it over-ear so that is what I’m going for again.

Preferred Music - 80% of my library consists of stuff you find on Monstercat. The other 20% is stuff like this: [1] - [2] - [3] - [4] -

Location - Location is in The Netherlands, so I can still buy from amazon.de if it's not available here.

So right now, my questions are:

  1. Should I refund the Cloud II and get one of the two above?

  2. In case 1., which should I take or is there something else that is better for my needs around or lower than my budget?

  3. Or should I just forget about it and use my current headset and just disable the mic?

    Thank you!

Logitech G230, good (If not, GREAT) sound quality, decent mic, and roughly £42 on Amazon.

I recommend the Logitech G230 headset, its 7.1 surround and the mic is absolutely stellar compared to my Turtle Beach X12 headset. The mic on it was absolute dog shit, my mates kept hearing echoing in teamspeak. Could have been a faulty headset but i'm well pleased with the upgrade and it's in your price range. It matches my black and red setup like a dream.

Also: I would recommend the Logitech G230, it's out of your price range, but it's a solid headset. The worst thing you can do is buy a cheap headset, they break easily and will cost you more in the long run.
