OK, so for remote I use this with a flirc. That way I have a truly universal remote with physical buttons (better for operating in the dark) for not a lot of cash. I do have a Logitech K400 for the rare times when I need a full keyboard.

For a case, I have the Silverstone ML03B. Small form factor and really blends with the other components. Depending on your CPU, you may not even need an aftermarket cooler. I have the i3 4130T with a stock cooler and it's dead silent. I built 2 years ago, and at the time, the only gaming I was doing was emulating old-school NES through some Gamecube. EDIT: So I only used the intel integrated graphics (HD 4400). /EDIT If you do want/need a GPU, you'd need a half-height to fit the case. Just last week I picked up a GTX 750 ti. It improved Dolphin emulation dramatically, and runs Skyrim at 1080p on Ultra settings at 60 fps.

Hopefully that answered some of your questions. If you have any more, feel free to ask.

Wouldn't the i5-3570 or i5-3570K desktops make decent low-budget htpc/gaming machines? Around $300-350 (+/- for local taxes) for a complete machine

  • Just add some RAM,

  • Combine it w/ a GTX 750 ti (low profile for the slim version),

  • and you could probably swap out the PSU for a higher wattage one in the mini tower for a better graphics card.

The processor has plenty of life left in it; and if you get the K, you can swap it to another mobo/case in the future to OC if you find a used one on CL or something, right?

Or you could have gone for this 750 ti

I think this is the fastest low-profile card out there, and it has enough ports for you.

  • Is that 250GB drive a HDD or a SSD?

  • Also, 4GB of RAM is very low for any sort of modern PC. I recommend 8GB, but if you're really on a tight budget, then you may get by with 4GB. It's just your multitasking will be limited with 4GB, such as multiple tabs open in your browser, or having several applications open at once. If so, you'll start to notice performance issues. (Also some higher demanding games use lots of RAM).

  • That graphics card you have selected is very underpowered and you won't be able to play games very well on that. I recommend a GTX 750ti. If you're tight on space inside your PC case, i recommend this low-profile GTX 750ti:

  • Processor seems fine for your budget. No problems there.

  • Sound card may not be necessary as that motherboard has onboard sound, but it's up to you whether you want to use the sound card.

Well i had a 750ti low profile, i bet that would do a terrific job.

I found this Gigabyte, but can't find if it requires a 6-pin or not?

u/Tollowarn · 2 pointsr/techsupport

Being a Slimline case you will have to carefully check compatibility. From a quick look on Google it would appear to use low profile PCIe cards.

There are some low profile cards available but most are not what you would call "gaming" cards.

The best one I could find is GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 750 Ti OC Low Profile 2GB GDDR5

https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GV-N75TOC-2GL-Graphics-Cards/dp/B00MW8NXAW

The 750 Ti is a nice low cost gaming card. Games like CS:GO DOTA and Legends will run really well. There is a guy I know that happily plays Battlefield 4 on a 750 Ti. I have not played Overwatch so I can't comment on that particular game. There is a little trick to find out if a game runs well on almost any hardware, go to Youtube and search the game and the name of the card. For what ever reason loads of people upload videos playing different game with their hardware.

I think a low profile 750 might fit. Comes with 2 different size brackets.

I have an HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF. It currently has an NVS 300 and I'm planning on upgrading to a low profile GTX 750 Ti. Is this an appropriate graphics card for the computer? I will mostly be playing Rocket League and GTA V.

u/BMC_rider · 1 pointr/htpc

Would a GTX 750Ti be enough for the games I mentioned?

u/mikmeh · 1 pointr/htpc

ic, in that case make sure you find one with display port and get an active display port to HDMI adapter so you can run 4k @ 60hz. The HDMI port on that card isn't 2.0. Even if you're connecting to a PC monitor for 4k you'll still want to use display port since it has enough bandwidth to support 4k.

I was going down the same road and ended up just getting a larger case. Went from an Antec ISK 110 to this monstrosity. But it's still silent at least.

Looks like Gigabyte has something.

If I got this would I be able to play the game for now?

u/Trazac · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

You'll have to crack it open and take a look at what hardware it has to see if the PSU has enough power for it, but you'll need a low-profile video card like this variant of the GTX 750 TI.

u/omarkh2000 · 1 pointr/buildapc
u/CoconutMochi · 1 pointr/lowendgaming

I can't be sure, you'll have to measure the dimensions of your case inside and see if it's wide enough to fit.

There are smaller low profile versions like this one but it's $120

u/CCGigabyte · 1 pointr/buildapc

I was recently thinking about doing something like this to my old PS3 super slim.

I'm not exactly sure how I'd wedge everything in there, but for the graphics card I was thinking of grabbing a PCI-E extender and grabbing something like this 750 Ti and shove it in on its side.

u/CoffeeBreak2 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

There are other versions that are as small and with one fan besides the one I linked below. Low profile 750ti from amazon:

What is the intended goal of up upgrade? Are you looking for the best gaming performance, or are you just looking for other graphical outputs (that aren't the VGA and 2 DisplayPort connections that are standard) for as cheap as possible?

For gaming, you probably are going to be picking between the low profile GTX 750 Ti models from Gigabyte or MSI or the low profile GTX 1050 Ti from MSI (they also have a GTX 1050, but I'm not sure where it can be bought). There are upcoming GTX 1050 and GTX 1050 Ti models coming from Gigabyte, but I'm not sure when it will be available.

A lot of PCs can simply have a new graphics card plugged in to make it a good gaming machine. This will work on nearly any machine with an open PCIe slot and allow you to play pretty much any game at settings better than current consoles.
