You are correct.

Well, Newegg has em for $40 and the last time I checked, Best buy had a bundle of GoW/Uncharted 1+2 with a controller.

Edit: Just got an e-mail from Amazon so here's some third-party controller deals.

Splitfish Dual SFX Evolution Wireless Controller for just $23. I own one and it works pretty good, no dead zones but the button layouts feels awkward. Rapidfire was fun to use, only tried it on Mass Effect 3 though. It feels like a monster when you hold it btw. Here's the video review of it.

HKS Racing Controller for $36.09. This is strictly for racing games and I've never really tried it. HKS Racing Controller Review.

PS3 Eagle Eye Mouse and Keyboard Converter which is $49.88. I know you don't want to shell out too much money but if you want to play the PS3 with a keyboard + mouse, then here ya go. You can also check out the Tactical Assault Commander 3 but I wouldn't recommend it. Eagle Eye PS3 Review. Btw, if you do get the Eagle Eye, expect playing it like this. A better demonstration of Eagle Eye.

Play n Type Wireless Controller with Keypad for $38.03. I seriously don't like this controller, it looks terrible. Just get the official wireless keypad. It's like, what, $21 on Amazon? Here's the review of it, no such video demonstrating the actual typing though.

You can also check the third party controllers in Gamestop or Bestbuy like afterglow but I totally wouldn't recommend it. Like seriously. Shit's so bright even in daylight.

I'd imagine maybe a driving game. Steering on the left, gas and brake on the right?

Last week I caved and got a DFGT. For 30€ I build a table for it out of 4 table legs and a 18"x6" shelf.
I used to play GT and GT2 with an Ultra Racer, I've always wondered why there aren't more controllers based on those pistol-grip RC car transmitters like this one.
This thing probably somes closest to what you're looking for.

Well, here's what I know of:

  • Price / name / steering / details
  • $12 / Kontrol Freek Speedfreek / gamepad stick extention / NEEDS EXISTING CONTROLLER [review]
  • $22? / Blackhorns PC Gamepad / two-thumb wheel / PC PS2 PS3, non-namebrand, large deadzone?
  • $40 / HKS Racing Controller / thumb wheel, ??° / Out of production? PS3 only? [review]
  • $43 / Thrustmaster Ferrari Wireless Gamepad / 90° thumb wheel / PC and PS3, Wireless, NO RUMBLE [review]

I think I'm leaning toward the Thrustmaster; some of the reviews indicate (relatively) fragile build quality, but wireless would be convenient for me and for a mere $43 the thumb-wheel seems worth a try.
